- Follow along with Chris Roe in this latest episode of 'Through the Seasons' as he calls in a nice, heavy Colorado 5x6 to 13 yards on this DIY, solo, self-filmed Colorado hunt.
I just love that respectful, controlled , and quiet celebration. Great job
I freakin love how excited you get... It's pure adrenaline and joy..!!
Thanks for sharing your hunt with us. Way to get it done..!!
You're exciting video excites me just about as much as it does you. I must say that of the many videos, over the past 7 years I've been watching, from many big names. Over the past year and a couple of months I have learned 10 times more from you, than from anyone else. Thanks ever so much for sharing this great video with us.
Thank you, and I appreciate the feedback! ...stay tuned, 'cause there's more to come!
Nice work. I took one of your Primos calling classes about 20 yrs ago. Your techniques along with some of my own improvements have been the reason I have taken over 30+ elk for me and my friends. I liked the temperament you used on the quite cow call. That bull thought another cow found his scent and was just letting him know she was ready to be a part of the herd....Good work
Congrats on your successes - glad to have been able to help, even if it's just a little bit!!! And you're right... sometimes subtle inflections are all it takes to turn a distant bugling bull, into a bull in your lap! :-)
Great, quick, ethical kill. It's what we all strive for. Cheers! Chris.
Congrats! You work harder for your Bulls than most, and you deserved a great one like this!
I love that camo! great video!
I SOOoooooo wish they hadn't changed it!!! Oh well...
Awesome video! Enjoyed watching it! I'm planning on going my first time to Colorado on public land this coming September. Watching this got me pumped!
Nice shot 👌 really nice bull.
That was bad ass man. I just about wanted to yell for you. Congrats and thankyou.
That excitement is AWESOME. Pure joy. I have taken several elk with my bow but mostly cows an one Spike. I look forward to the day I get a 6 point bull as I know I will have that same reaction. Great Video!!
How long was it from the time you heard the bull bugle until you made your first call? Seems like it would take a ton of faith and patience.
Ooooooo....good question... Honestly, it had to have been pushing an hour or more; the bull was bugling fairly regularly, so I was able to work my way in from a long ways away. Once I started to get close is when he started to go quiet, so you pick up on this video as I am making my last move into position, with me guessing as to exactly where he is, before calling. In this case, I did not really need to "keep him talking" so I didn't call until I was ready to execute.
I've watched this a dozen or more times while trying to perfect my assembly mew and just now noticed the second bull to the right of the one you shot. You see the top of his antlers at 7:47
Nick Black good eyes !
Nick Black I had to go back and look but sure enough. Nice catch.
That's grass blowing in the wind- not antlers.
That's grass
Yes - thank you Lord !! Good job on the bull
Nice job! Like watching your videos!
That reaction is what dreams are made of
Excellent solo! Very well done. would you please elaborate to the path of the arrow? I don't see an exit wound.
Jed Clampett - the arrow ended up staying in him - it never came out.
Thanks for the great video. It's good to know that you can get them in that close just by staying still, and of course good wind (even if it was cold). I would like to know how you managed to draw with him that close and not spooking him.
Awesome hunt!
Are you planing on doing any more hunting videos? Been waiting for a long time i like the info you give
I am, but it's been a combination of limited good footage (from self-filming on public ground with tons of other hunters) and just time to put the footage I do have together. But... I will be putting last year's AZ hunt together soon. Stay tuned!
You remind me of jack Nicolson when he is acting crazy. Haha
Really hope we get to see some great hunts from 2021.
great video, awesome bull!!! just made my first Colorado bowhunting on public land and got me a bull too on self video!!!
Me Roe, great job on this hunt but have you ever gone back to the place you killed that big buck? Do you still use the great preditor camo any more. I still love the summer and spring preditor camo but I think it blends in the best in the fall time in Utah and Colorado. I know animals don't see color but I love the break up of preditor what's your favorite combo?
I HAVE been back up there over the years, but sadly, it isn't what it used to be! ...several other hunters have "discovered" it, increasing the pre-season, and during-season disturbance, which more often than not causes the animals to pack up and start moving out of the basins early/before season, and a bad winter right after I killed my buck knocked the piss out of the deer herd - it's difficult to even FIND a deer up there any more. ...but it doesn't stop me from popping back in from time to time to see how it's doing though!
I wonder if this guy was fighting the wind.?
I had a Nevada bull tag last season and took an early tag(Aug 15-31) . I spotted over 50 bulls in 8 days but was unable to take one. The problem seemed to be no rut activity or response to calls for bulls in anyway. No bugling at all. What would be the calling sequence to bring a bull in well before the rut?
Depending on the area, sometimes, subtle bull vocalizations and Contact bugles work the best; prior to the rut, bulls are often more interested in figuring out their local pecking orders, so bull sounds do better than cow sounds. The key here would be glassing as much as possible, or using game cams to figure out where bulls are generally hanging out, moving in close, and then using more SUBTLE sounds as opposed to full-on, big sounding bugles. ...Small Contact bugles, chuckles, whines, moans, etc. That's what I would do anyway. Those, and if I had a set of 4x4 or 5x5 sheds with me, rattling along with some whines.
Do you think his entire rack might be sticky because of the sap in the trees?
That is exactly why it was sticky, but the fact he had it all the way up to the back tips was crazy! LOL!
It's amazing the difference between hunting Colorado Rockey Mnt Elk and Oregon Coastal Roosies. They just don't have much to say over here on the coast.
you using the rage hypodermic?
Yep.
You need to get more videos out
Got several on the website! Check it out, and thanks for watching/subscribing!
Already watched them all
@@jamescraig5526 more on the way! LOL!
Well if you are going hunting in September good luck maybe run in to you somewhere in southern colorado .
Can you share with us where this bull was shot? Was that on public land or private? Where?
Great video, I've watched it i don't know how many times, hah I shot one at 8 yards in the chest this year (2019) and he stood where I shot him and bled out. Thanks again for the great content.
Walter White seems to have moved to CO.
kbcal2 LOL! That's awesome!!! :-) ...I should get some glasses like his for my next hunt! LOL!
Those in this vid are almost dead ringers. Keep it up though. Great stuff.
Excuse me for asking, but could you or someone on here tell me what the name of that call is, I'm going to Colorado this year and that seems to be a nice call for walking in the mountains
@Andrew Owens - the cow call I'm using is a Primos Hyper Lip Double with Tone Converter. It's great for the subtle, more mature-sounding cow vocalizations. For cow/calf vocalizations, pick up either the Matriarch or the Trophy Wife from either Steve Chappell (www.chappellguideservice.com) or Bugling Bull Game Calls. Good luck this season!
You don't have to hold off on calling that long. Just do a couple cow calls, it's totally non threatening and they will often answer.
I Feel like I'm hunting with you.
what gmu where you in and where
Rule number one never tell anyone where you hunt and fish
Whatever you do, don't film the animal before the shot, during the shot, or after the shot. Be sure to get good footage of the trees and the ground and anything BUT the actual hunt.
mulie chaser Fuck sticks such as that critical idiot, i doubt have ever had the satisfaction of success. Perhaps we should look into his uploads. After all there's a genius born every minute.
Jed Clampett Rest assured mr Fuck Stick....if I filmed and posted a hunting video it would certainly include some aspects of the actual hunt. If someone has the right to post up garbage like this, I have the right to voice my opinion of it. My comment AND my opinion stand.
I don’t get the negativity man. At least here is out there instead of on his couch. Like most who post negetive shit.
