I finally got to play this call out on a huge bull this year and it worked like a charm. As soon as his cows stood up he cut them off and came right to me. I need to work on my patience though. I slapped him at 57 and hit low in the brisket. Misjudged the downhill compensation
I am new to the channel, hoping to learn archery, etc. Also, trying to learn elk calling from Corey Jacobsen. Hopefully, I can learn from the two of you. 🙏🏻🤞
Joel we spoke a month ago or so. You mentioned to reach out to you and you would be making some reeds. I sent another e-mail the other day with a couple of pics from my trail camera tooLet me know what I need to do
+radardkooy have you emailed me at joel@ironmindhunting.com? I have not received your email. I am not taking any more call orders as it is now too close to season. I just finished my last ones today. Shoot me an email so we can chat.
Hi Joel , Thanks for the great video and info. I watch it a few times every year. I tried emailing you but you must’ve changed your email? I am wanting to purchase a few reeds off of you if I am able to?
The problem with this line of reasoning is that it is comparing mainly monogamous human relationships with an animal species where a single bull mates with several cows every year
Thanks for the great video on calling headed to salida colorado in September on my first elk hunt. What kind of elk bugle tube are ypu using in this video ??
Joel a while back I got some reeds from you. I drew a Wyoming out of state tag with zero points for this year. General Units. Any suggestions where to go. I have some places but just thought I would see. I competed in the World Elk calling Championship this year and hoped you would be there.
dued man: that one episode with garrette for 1hr and 15 minutes pod cast . . .man. that last five minutes where you described Olympic archers rotating that rear elbow to make the bow arm in from extend the last 2mm. Man! that nailed it for me. I now have my shot activation as the rear elbow rotating and chest expanding and the bow arm pivoting to get that last 2mm extension. I have the feel of that bow arm pivoting and extending. That is a reliable proprioceptive mechanical feel and I release that arrow off that pivot. It is soooo good! that was gold where you were talking about the Olympic archer not pulling anymore with back tension (because that is all the elbow can pull. Now it rotates with the back tension and the bow arm extends as part of the expansion of the chest and rotation of the rear elbow. It actually makes the bow arm pivot at the shoulder, extending that bow arm by 2mm) AMAZING!!! A great way to split the sequence into three: 1. pull to full draw; 2. look (aim and hold past the critical second; ) 3. rotate back elbow, pivot the bow arm at the shoulder, feeling the elongation of the last 2 mm; and whoosh: arrow is loosed. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAN IF I HAD A CLICKER OR A SEAR, THAT IS HOW I 'D ACTIVATE IT: ROTATE THE ELBOW, PIVOT THE BOW SHOULDER.!!!!!
Hey Joel just came across this video and find it very interesting. So are you talking to the elk at all before you make your bull calling cows bugle? Or is that the only call you make?
Hey brother, nice work. Looks like you are off to a great start. You know you can add a link to your web site in the video description box. That will let the viewer just click the link rather than having to type in ironmindhunting.com and coming up with ironminehunting... or something else. Nice touch adding the elk video at the end, and nice clear complete explanation with examples of the calls prior to the video to alert the viewer what they should listen for. Well done my friend.
So you you have your own press how do I buy a reed from you? I will have a limited entry tag in Utah this year on the Wasatch unit and I want every advantage I can. Most amazing calls you do WOW
Joel, I recently found your content and am very interested in implimenting them this season! I have a question about cow calling to close to the heard making the heard cows want to move off avoiding "the hussy in the bushes" In your approach sequence you describe; First: Locate Bugle to find bull Second: Move in closer (200yds) away and cow call a few times to relocate Bull and decide heard bull or Satilite Bull Third: Move in as close as possible and do Bull Calling Cows to seal the deal Question: How close is too close to cow call in order not to push the heard cows off? 200yds doesnt seam to make the cows want to move off? Thanks in advance!
wow. i just got back from my first elk hunt in colorado and we were in elk everyday and had bulls bugling all night. i did kill a small bull we didnt really call him in, we were calling to a larger bull and i was in the right place at the right time. the bull i killed was following cows to the larger bull doing this bugle. that bull was making this sound and cows were heading to him. i heard that bugle for days and kept wondering what is that bull saying that i dont know. i feel like i could go back to that spot today and kill that bull with this info. thankyou.
I will definitely be adding these calls to my practice sessions.
Really good information and the video of the bull using the call really drills it home
makes a ton of sense the way you describe it. great video and thanks for sharing
You can be my best friend,,,great insight to a elks world. I've bow hunted them for 35 years and seen everything you talked about .
great piece of information!!! you just shortened the calling learning curve by miles !! Thank you very much sir!!!!
I've used these tactics the last three years and it works unbelievable,Thanks Joel!

Thanks for the tip Joel!
I make my own reeds. Couldn't find the quality I needed on the market so I bought my own press back in 2009.

Is it just basically a short lip bawl?
So you you have your own press how do I buy a reed from you? I will have a limited entry tag in Utah this year on the Wasatch unit and I want every advantage I can. Most amazing calls you do WOW
I have a Muzzleloader tag for the same unit this year. I am also interested in your reeds. Can I buy a few?
Stephen we should get together if we both have muzzleloader tags for the same Unit
