I remember living in makati (san andres bukid) was told by locals that as a white dude I should never go to the market on my own because the people might try to rob me but I went once on my own and was cool. I drank that coconut water from the guy with the stall. one of my best experiences ever!

mark layam It really depends in your place though. Large towns and Cities tend to have more in their palenke.
My City’s a pretty new City (only got its Cityhood about 15 years ago) and the Public Market was in need of a massive overhaul since the City would be expected to grow and the City itself is an Agricultural hub in the east of Pangasinan.
So they built a massive building that now houses the Palengke and has everything from Barbershops to Panaderias, Tailors and even Electricians.
Smaller Palengkes only have groceries like the Palenke in my neighbouring town. We have another Palenke in my city just a few minutes away from the larger palenke that only have food though...

He LOVED it, he coudnt believe how cheap it was, even if he alwas payed a tourist price for everything haha. It was still cheap tough. I am living in the US for 15 years now, but originally from Malabon. Our house is just behind the consignacion, and yeah, the fisherman brings in their catch early in the morning. Talagang sari sari at buhay na buhay ang mga isda, octopus, squid, etc and then brought to the market. There are even huge tuna sometimes. The freshest cast in the morning market!

Hahaha the guy who was selling the fruits, the one wearing the red cap...he was like "whaaattt the hell is going on" :D it definitely reminded me of the past when I used to live in Pinas and my lola used to take me to the palengke every morning too! And I would get either ice cream or ibus as an incentive of going with her! Aaaaahhhh childhood.

Catching up on some of your non-ant, non-vlog videos! This too reminds me of my childhood in the Philippines. My mom... a tiny little woman from South Carolina... LOVED going out to bargain there. She spoke very little Tagalog but she would point and make herself known. You showed the people making clothes. She got me the most beautiful dresses there for me. I looked like a little princess. My favorite was white organza with silver thread embroidery. Long after I outgrew them and we'd left the Philippines I would look at and admire them. I had a large walking doll that was taller than me when I first got it so when I grew up I would put my marvelous dresses on her. Thank you again Mikey for bringing back my beautiful childhood memories of the Philippine Islands.
