We just loved our stay in Capital Reef and fun to revisit it with you guys. That was the first time that we had found ourselves with absolutely no cell service and on some of those hiking trails it was a little nerve racking.
We were there this last spring and boondocked just past Capital Reef Resort on the way to Fruita. Absolutely loved our stay. Nice view on your hike to the arch.
There's just something about UT in the Fall. So awesome! Zion's pretty neat about now. And thanks for the little taste of Capitol Reef. I had a 2 week loop planned from CA to CO and back, right through there, planed to stay there as well, beginning of October. We only made it to Cedar Breaks and on the 2nd night I rolled my ankle hard, destroyed it and unfortunately had to come home. Ah well, I'll try again in late Spring, perhaps. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
I stayed on BLM by the river after I passed thru the park to the left. That was a real pretty area and very close to the park. That was last summer. Capital Reef became one of my favorite NP. 2021
Thanks for the tip about hiking with dogs in National Parks. We have driven through Coral Reef twice now because we travel with our dogs and didn't want them to miss out on the hikes. I love this video!! You did a great job capturing this park for us to enjoy!! ❤️
Not full timer's but we have taken several 4-5 week trips thru the area you have mentioned in todays video. As you stated it is a wonderful area of majestic scenery. A real change from where we are in the Pacific N.W. We use our Anderson leveling blocks (wedge style), one under each tire on one axle, when we are in an extremely un-level spot as you were, before we put our auto leveler's down. Keeps the tires on the ground. You've done & are doing a great job of documenting your trips.
At first I was disappointed that you weren't planning to stay in the campground, but glad you got in. It's a great place to camp and puts you right there to get to the trails and the Gifford House. We loved Capital Reef and will go back. So magical! And you did the perfect trail with Cassidy Arch! It was perfect! There are some great pictographs in the park also. Thanks for another great video!
What a wonderful video you two have created!!!! Love the scenery and mountains and the trees etc.. thank you for taking me along on your adventures!! As always BS & BK & BC
What a couple of rookie hikers LOL. Don't mess with the kitty cat. Great views all around. Was going to Moab but changed plans. Hit Albuquerque today from Colorado Springs. Saw the most epic sunset I have ever seen. Had a beautiful drive today.
admiring the scenery of your current location reminds me of my husband and MIL's desire to pull off and read every historical marker they pass! i think the ability to do that depends on the length of the travel day.
Thanks I need this! A break from the cesspool of insanity that I’ve been navigating. It’s a nice break until I break out and get on the road. And as usual getting closer❣️
I haven't been to as many places as you two, but this area is definitely a hugely underrated spot. And if you loved the drive from Moab to Capital Reef I can't wait to see what you have to say if you continue down 12 toward Escalante, Kodachrome, etc. That's easily one of the prettiest drives we've ever done. If you're going that way, take your time and soak it in. EDIT: Nevermind. I commented before I got the part when you mentioned heading to Zion. I'm assuming that means you went the other direction. Oh well, if so add the Highway 12 drive to your to-do list the next time you're in the area.
Such a helpful video! I am planning a 2 week trek in December with my pups @theenglishgoldens from Grand Canyon through Arches and over to Capitol Reef so this was great! I even know how to look for that trailhead sign! :)... BTW awesome recipes on your site!
No Aaron, engines don't burn more fuel to regen or clean themselves. It's the right foot that burns more fuel or the cruise control. Do a test to see if you get better millage with your foot or cruise control, you might be surprised.
I meant burn more DEF than normal durning the region process... But yes, Chris does love to use the cruise...also to watch the speeding through some of these small towns. We found out the hard way early on!🤣
We were likely visiting the park right around the exact same time you guys were. We camped out at the BLM land near Torrey. We hiked to Cassidy Arch as well but started at the opposite end of the wash and missed the sign initially coming the other direction too. We just did a video for our channel as well about it being one of the most underrated parks we've been to.
As a native Utahan, we love that it’s underrated! It’s a hidden gem that’s not too busy. I hope you bought a pie at the little shop in the campground 😊
Love CR. "Discovered it" about 20 years ago on a trip between Montana and Arizona when we decided to randomly drive across from hwy 89 to hwy95. Now we have friends that live in Torrey. Hope you did the Burr Trail rd too (accessed from Hwy 12 in Boulder)! Dont recommend taking the trailer on it but it's a pretty easy day trip. Hike the upper Muley Trail. Lastly, the best/most popular boondocking site is just east of Torrey on the north side of the hwy but it can get crowded...
Love Capital Reef. Did Cassidy arch hike in March with my Wife. People kept passing us on the way up asking if we were ok. I told them the ticket we got did not have a time limit so we could take all day if we wanted 😂 #whisky_tango_hotel
Another wonderful video guys! I shy away from national parks BECAUSE dogs aren’t welcome. Understanding that over the years pet owners have messed it up for the rest of us.
I can't stress it enough when you're out in those areas like the canyons, etc., either get paper maps from a visitor center for local trails or go to a local BLM office and get paper maps - surface management maps or topographical maps and a lot of offices have recreation maps they've put together for the public. I imagine Utah BLM is good at that because of all their outdoor recreation...
I still love traveling in the trailer for sure, but I laugh with the modern day obsession with needing to be connected all the time. One of the main reasons I go camping is to not be connected. Sadly that is becoming harder and harder. I well remember the pre cell, pre internet RV days when we would call home via a pay phone once a week and talk for 2 minutes just to make sure the world was still going around I guess.... oh and of course we could always pick up a local newspaper to see if any mountain lions were on the loose I guess.... as always, safe travels.....

Oh, that's too bad! It is definetly a small National park without a lot of parking for the big rigs. We did park our 48' at the visitors center to do the walk.
I travel and hike with my dog and have found the All Trails app is extremely helpful in finding dog friendly trails. It has a free version or you can pay if you want to download maps and are hiking without service.

I loved your flexibility in this video. And it made me appreciate on more advantage of at least PLANNING to stay on BLM land. Imagine if you had made a reservation for your RV. The national park spots are always full a few minutes in on the first day of availability. So you would have reserved an RV park near the national park. Good point Dave! Yes, we certainly have embraced the " less conventional planning " aspect of RVing and just having a good couple options to stay at. It has definitely gotten easier as we enter year 4 on the road!
