Excellent product, i didnt have the first generation Genie. Very pleased with my Genie 2 Linear, Genie Pan Tilt and Magic Carpet CF. I'll be ordering the Slingshot soon. Very pleased with all of my Syrp products and the support. Thanks to Liz and Vishwa
The original Genie display can be difficult to see in bright light. That's an understatement. :) It's still a great product though, and now there are heaps of them at a reduced price on the second-hand market, for those of us who's wives won't let us spend the big bucks on the second generation. :)
Do you guys @syrp think about a TradeIn or Syrp GiveBack action for the first generation customers for Genie1 & the Genie Minis? This is my top question:-)
Good question. I have a 3 axis first gen setup. Its absolutely useless for video due to all the motor noise. I got it mainly for making hyperlapses but would love to be able to use it for video as well. A trade up program would be a great idea.
@Syrp Do you have any plans to produce a product to sit between the Linear and the Pan & Tilt units to allow levelling of the Pan & Tilt head when using the slider at an incline? Does the system have any capacity for you to add any extra axis in the future, specifically focus/zoom motors?
Mark Edwards we are planning something for the tilt bracket, we can’t discuss about focus / zoom products at this stage. Sounds like a good idea though 😉
Is it possible to use the Genie II Linear with 2 Genie II mini's combined via the pan/tilt bracket? When I have all three connected in this configuration the timelapse option on the app is greyed out and not accessible. Also, if I use the Genie II Linear on its own, the timelapse function is greyed out. Thoughts?
Hey Kieran! Thanks for your question. It's definitely possible to use all 3 together and we do regularly. The 'Time-lapse' option in the app is actually simple set up - it only works for simple panning motion when using one pan/tilt enabled device so will be disabled when connected to linear or multiple devices. What you will want to use is the 'Keyframe' mode which enables full control over all 3 axes.
I'll buy one as soon as I get a response to this answer. Besides sizes and load capacity what is the difference between the genie ii and the genie mini ii?
Hi, which Genie II are you referring too?? Genie II Linear or Genie II Pan Tilt?? In general Genie II is more advanced technology in every aspect, quieter motors, quick release systems built in, lower profile, more stable etc. Let us know exactly which products you are trying to compare. Thanks
Very interested in buying each piece to the Genie II 3-Axis - Indie Kit on a month by month basis, however i would like to know regarding the Genie 2 Linear. Some one may have brought this up but ill ask again. Can I still utilize the function of the Linear and the Pan & Tilt Genies to perform timelapses without the app, assuming the app does not connect, or if there are issues with my phone? And a side question the extendable sliders, does that mean i can purchase 2 sliders and connect them together?
Hey there, you can use the on board controls on the Genie II Pan Tilt head to start a basic timelapse without the need for the APP. However, the same will not work for the Genie II Linear (this can only be setup using the Syrp APP). In terms of the extendable sliders, you can either choose the Magic Carpet PRO track and extension or the Magic Carpet Carbon Fibre track and extension. These are two different components, you do not need to purchase two sliders. Bellow are some links: syrp.co/us-en/magic-carpet-carbon-extension-60cm-sy0013-0012/ syrp.co/us-en/magic-carpet-pro-short-slider-ext-61-152cm-sykit-0021/
@@SyrpLab thanks for the quick response. Ah I see, so in regards to the app that controls the devices, I have noticed from other motion control devices that use apps that if a firmware update is given and you are you are unable to update either through technical issues or lack of internet then one wouldn't be able to use the app therefore making the devices unusable. Is this also the case with the Syrp app and devices? Side question: is it possible to use the original genie motion control device with the screen in conjunction with the genie 2 pan and tilt system? Thank you
Absolutely you can do any number of complex movements using the key frame editor, all axis can be programmed independently. There are various Kit combinations available. check out www.syrp.co
It depends, if shooting in a studio, would not recommend Genie Mini with a lav or boom, probably you can hear it, in outdoor environments it's fine. For Genie II either is not a problem at all.
To be completely stepless (move the camera in every frame) it depends on the frame rate they are recording with. If 25fps it will be completely stepless at 900mm per hour in video mode. In reality it will be much less as you will not be able to see the step because it is so small.
I dont wanna be using my phone to program this. ugh. Why is everything on an app. Give me a controller Or like the emotimo motion control, they use a PS4 controller! Thats the reaason I havent bought any of their sliders or motor heads, along with the lower weight capacity. The emotimo motion control is better but idk how I could use that on a Syrp slider
For the Linear, you can with the app utilising keyframes for complex setup. You can also use the integrated joystick on the device for quickly re-positioning it without having to use your smartphone or tablet, perfect for quick setup and run-and-gun productions. Genie Pan Tilt can be controlled either directly on the device itself or with the app. Using the inbuilt software makes it really easy to set up basic recordings without pulling your phone out of your pocket. Use the app to set up more complex movements using keyframes and more. It also has an integrated joystick on the device. Use it to set the start and end point of your desired movement by simply pressing the joystick in.
Seriously guys, without having a meaningful trade-up offer to accompany this comparison video, all it accomplished is to make me feel shitty about my first generation set-up. Or maybe the lesson should be to wait for the Genie III...
@@SyrpLab Sven are right! There is non Trade program. I wrote to Syrp without any offer for trading my too noisy unit! Really bad. Looking for Rhino ….it look like to take care of customer.

Great job with the noise. Great product
Which cameras are supported for electronic control of focus over USB and is this seamlessly handled in the app as part of each keyframe?
Any answer on this syrup folks?

Is the sound from the motors the same on the genie mini ii just like the genie ii?
Hi, the sound is different between the units. The Genie II is much quieter as it's more advanced product in terms of mechanics.
@@SyrpLab Ok, thanks. But will the mini have too much noise for the same style interview? I don't want it to get picked up by the lav or boom mic.

can I turn in my Geni 1 and exchange for Geni 2 at a discount price?
You can email liz@syrp.co.nz with your request.
Does Syrp use Sennheiser HD650s as camera headphones?
We are currently using sony mdr-7506 and sennheiser hd 280, ath-m40x
My Genie II Linear has only one USB C port and one release cable port. Has the design changed?
Yeah we swapped out a port for 2.5mm plug that way you do not need an (annoying) adapter to go from USB-C to 2.5mm :)
What is the minimum (stepless) speed of the Genie II linear?
