Power Rangers Dino Thunder had a morph very fondly remembered, but there might've been some details you may've missed in that short sequence. Let's analyze everything about it, the references, sound design, and more! Dino Thunder Power Up!!

It’s crazy that Disney didn’t even care about power rangers all that much,but still put out the best series in the Franchise
I think it also has to do with the fact that Disney cared more about Power Rangers in 2004 than they did by the time RPM came out in 2009. Dino Thunder and SPD were the last seasons of Power Rangers to be produced before Michael Eisner was replaced by Bob Iger in 2005, and it was after that that Disney stopped caring about Power Rangers.

@@isaaccuevas1717 This is true. That was also right as The CW was exploding with shows like Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars, so teen dramas were very much on the forefront of people's minds at the time, and RPM felt more like a CW drama than a season of Power Rangers at the time.

The pterodactyl's screech is so iconic for me. I love it.
I love how Tommy's morpher feels like a combination of his previous morphers, embodying his history as a Ranger. The key from Turbo, the poses from Zeo, stuff like that.
I like how the dino thunder teams logo looks like a sleek version of the Tommy's green ranger power coin
i wonder how many more takes were done cause of tommy having a key to his morpher and the possiblilites he could have miss
I just know he accidentally hit his wrist, and I bet it felt like stepping on Lego.
I love that they basically took the original Abarekiller henshin pose and made it Trent's official morph stance. Just a nice little remnant of what the original character was.
Finally someone brought up the music change in the morph thought i was the only one to notice lololol
Love how each of them got their own superhero landing in the morph sequence and it continues in Spd
I love how Tommy occasionally misses the keyhole and the key is just hovering over the morpher
Dino thunder is one of my favorite power rangers series which makes it crazy how it’s going to be twenty years old soon. At some point I’ll do a cosplay of the white ranger since he’s one of my favorite characters.
As a guy who plans out outfits for Dagorhir…I wish you the best luck on making that thing breathe and not be too heavy around the chest and shoulders. GL, mate, and may it be a glorious cosplay.
The morph gestures are also super easy to follow and replicate, especially compared to all the changing shots and zooms that obscure the Ninja Storm gestures. It's simple enough for kids to follow and copy on their own after only watching it a few times, but there's also enough energy and clarity matching the tone of the show overall.
I always saw Trent’s morph being different because his morpher itself wasn’t made by Tommy and Hailey, so it would have a different morph entirely. And I NEVER peeped how the pose when they hit the ground looked like the zords’ bodies, especially Tommy’s.
I believe the Dinos cry is also because in Abaranger, the Dinos actually talks

The section where you talked about the sounds of the morphers was so satisfying. I never realized it wasn’t always that smooth. Also really love when demoprhing uses mechanics as unique as the morph itself - reminds me of how in KR Ghost, the driver would say “goodnight~” all sleepy like after fighting

The one thing that has always bugged me was how you see the gold section on trents morpher move in the morphing sequence as that's how the sentai changer worked but trent never pulls the gold activator and the power ranger toy morpher had that piece solid and a little clip added to the jaw to move it
Love all the little details in the morph sequence. Dino Thunder really was a beautifully crafted season...
I kind of feel like the fragmentation for the morph and demorph is almost like scales since it's widely thought that Dinos had if not scales really tough skin. It kind of makes sense for it to be fragments when morphing and demorphing. Kinda like scales coming together to form the protective layer of the ranger suits
3:53: Connor's Pose is Just the T'rex's head, See how his Left arm leaves a triangular hole between it and his torso?, in design we call empty space with a purpose "negative space", that triangular shaped negative space? that's the t-rex'seye, while his right arm is the bottomost part of the Jaws, you can even see some of the triangular white things in the arm as the teeth

First power ranger series I ever watched.
Cool video. There was alot in this video that I didn't actually notice when I was watching Dino Thunder back in 2004 because it was on TV so I couldn't pause it, rewind and replay the morphing sequence over again unless I taped an episode off of ABC Kids or Family Channel (where Dino Thunder aired here in Canada). Also, the writers of Dino Thunder treated Trent like the season's sixth Ranger, similar to how Tommy was the sixth Ranger as the Green Ranger in season 1 of Mighty Morphin. It's because of that that Trent has a different morphing sequence than the others, with his Drago Morpher being activated slightly different from the others. Like with Tommy in Mighty Morphin with the Green Ranger morpher being gold instead of silver like the other Power Morphers.
I feel that last bit is a stretch, as Tommy’s morph from MMPR was no different than anyone else’s outside of subtle visuals
I feel Disney was just treating “new Rangers” that looked significantly different with having their morph call swapped in a way, similarly to the Thunder Rangers and Green Samurai.
this wouldn’t happen again after Dino Thunder so I chalk it up to Disney still gaining their footing with the show

@@HedgeOnStage That's totally fair actually. I just thought of it as something to mention because of your video on the White Ranger's introductory trilogy of episodes you did recently. Yeah, there's always that weird transition period any show has when it changes hands, be it production company or TV network.
trents morph sequence gives a sense of urgency cs he sounds quiet and says it kinda fast thats why i liked it more and with the different biome from the rest of the rangers made it feel different

Make you wonder how many mistakes or resorts they did for turbo which had a similar morph and if that part of the reason the keys is half digital for beast morphers in addition to the sentai never having the keys for their morph

Yesss. Dino Thunder, Ninja Storm and SPD are probabaly my favorite Disney seasons of power rangers. Dino thunder morphs were 🔥 and i like how trents stands out. I also like how you mentioned the fact Trents suit doesnt have a symbol. Thats something i always come back to because his design is so unique. Its jarring and edgy compared to the rest of the team and i love it. Makes him stand out as a character just as Trent himself did. And that icy tornado spin for his morph sequence is indeed a cold intro. The sound team did fantastic with this show and i love dinosaurs so this was like a dream come true as a kid. Keep it up Hedge! Awesome content👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

i feel like trents second motion at 7:28 is probably the best iteration of his weird morph!
i mean abarekiller did have a few henshins on screen with the abarangers, even coming up with his own tagline "tokimeki no hyakubi" so he IS meant to be an abaranger. i think he honestly should've just said the whole "Dino Thunder! Power up!" shtick to keep it consistent, since Mikoto says "Bakuryuu change" like all the others. his suit however... not much justification there. ill just say dezumorzorlya twisted his dino guts to make it different lol

I love how for Trent morph is very inconsistent with posing or the literal fact that the morpher either open or closed during. The fact you barely get to see the morpher open so the American toy line took the advantage of putting a hilt on Trent morpher for the American releasing making the only one except Tommy to work like how others morph. They removed his unique function where you pull the hilt at the back which they could literally made a better way for him to morph. Ahh it drives me nuts now.
Yes I am guilty of doing the morph while watching Dino Thunder when I was a kid and it aired.

3:49 I might be reaching but Connors is a bit more subtle the hand behind his eyes kinda resembles the eye and the way he has his head tucked into his shoulder follower by his other arm kinda resembles the mouth of the t rex

It always seemed weird how AbareBlack’s changer had a key… but then when Tommy came back in Dino Thunder, it should’ve been nearly obvious why AbareBlack’s changer was the way it was. Tommy repurposed the Turbo Morpher he still had, modifying it for when he gets a new DinoGem. Dude was playing 4D Chess!
A rare moment where Disney wanted Tommy Oliver back, but needed his morpher different because LORE. So they communicated with Toei to make sure it happened in Abaranger.
Has it ever been confirmed that that was the sole reason that Abare Black’s changed had a key? I don’t remember them even mentioning Turbo in Dino Thunder at all

There is also an error in the blue ranger's morph. When Ethan's helmet materializes you can still see his chin.

Dino Thunder probably has my favorite morph score. Definitely appreciate their customized quick morphs, the Neo-Saban were almost always just flashes of light which is disappointing considering they came out way later so you would think it'll be easier to animate those with modern graphics but alas Saban cheaped out

Thought it was worth a mention, that I think maybe once…..? Trent morphed with the mouth of his morpher open, like the Sentai, and then never did again.

The sound is the Morpher’s mouth being opened. That cues the music to start up. I play it a lot in that example for that sole reason lol

Almost all morphs in power rangers are exactly like super sentai
you’ve never watched Power Rangers
PR first started using Sentai morph gestures was in MMPR S3 where the team does the Dino Buckler gesture. Zeo, In Space, and Wild Force were the only morph that uses stock Henshin footage from Sentai.
