I think the actual V2 suit is better, with the first appearance being the BatInTheSun fan design that made its way into canon in comics and Battle For The Grid game. The stripe is gold instead of silver, and it matches the other parts of the gold armor well.
Tommy’s Green Ranger suit has never matched Burai’s Sentai suit. MMPR used the boots and gloves from Burai, and lightened the rest of the suit. That’s why it’s so easy to tell original footage from Sentai footage.
Man, am I the only one who thought the Fighting Spirit helmet looked BETTER than the OG one? That silver stripe really made it pop and more distinct from the red ranger helmet in shots
And now they use both versions of the suit to differentiate them. It was actually my intro to the show! Ironic as I was the perfect age to watch, but a mix reasons meant I never saw it (save for the In Space episode where Silver is losing his powers). So, here I am a teenager who's high number cartoon channel is increasingly playing Power Rangers all seasons for hours at a time. I wasn't looking for a new hyperfixation, but that theme song! I watched everything from then on until, basically devouring all I could find until we finally had to scrap our cable plan. It's a very good series for teenagers who might subconsciously think their too grown up for the camp of the original, easing them slowly into the world of unnecessary posing in colored spandex. 😉
The fact that so much official artwork and merchandise of the Green Ranger (and Red Ranger with the Dragon Shield) STILL has the Silver Morpher shows just how influential / Mandela Effect-y Fighting Spirit had on people’s perception of the Green Ranger outfit. It shouldn’t be too hard to refer back to the original JP footage to double check these things, but here we are.
In MMPR season 1 the American footage Floppy Shield Green Ranger suit had a white holster on the right side, which actually had a Red Blade Blaster (rather than the Dagger) in it, maybe the Fighting Spirit suit having a white holster on the right side is a nod to that. The black holster for the Dagger which is worn on the left side was added to the American version for Season 2. My head canon was that he could switch between both holsters containing the two different weapons by rotating the belt explaining the holster changing positions and color.
I hate how the 95 movie suits have never been seen again. Looked up the Bat in the Sun Green Ranger suits and saw that they did versions for all of the original rangers. Would love to have them as figures.
When the Original GR suit was sent to Saban to shoot MMPR from Japan i heard JDF mention the Original Dragon shield arrived damaged and they had to quickly fabricate a replacement
I always preferred the Japanese version of the suit, especially the Dragon shield. Never liked the American version just looking so cheap looking. I liked the newer version in Ninja Steel footage though. It looked closer to the Japanese version, albeit being more foam like. It looked better. I like the shade of emerald green too. The suits look great in today's HD and hasn't aged at all.
Fun fact about the appearance in ninja steel, the shield actually is very similar to the dino thunder variant. When he morphs back to white to call the falcon zord, you can see the center diamond pop out. This was due to the fact that to have they wanted to cover the attachment part that used to be on the back to be under the diamond
It must be a running gag that there must be a suit messed up for every reunion 1:01 that's the Season 2 version, might be mirrored since the holster is on the right side but it's supposed to be on his left and he never got the proper black one until Season 2, any time we saw him in new footage when he had a holster in season 1 it was always a white holster If 1 looks at Forever Red, Once a Ranger and even Dimensions in Danger, you can find at least 1 suit or prop error for at least 1 Retro Ranger. Dimensions they messed up the body suit for Dino Thunder White, the body suit is what is visible around their neck, his body suit is supposed to be black but they gave him white here because that's generally the more normal body suit colo Rest in Peace to JDF indeed, may the power protect him where he's now resting
With Dino Thunder White the bodysuit is actually correct, like that was perfectly fine but for whatever reason they gave the suit actor a white underhood instead of the black he’s supposed to have. Maybe they forgot, maybe they just didn’t have any more on hand? Who knows but I do remember that bothering the Dino Thunder fanatic in me LOL
@@HedgeOnStage well whatever was what shows up around the neck, I figured it had to be the body suit that also stretches to the top of 1's head but I guess it's possible they had an extra add-on but yes that bugs me now too, now that I've noticed it just like Rangers having holsters yet nothing in them since MMPR Black when he came back for Overdrive, he has a holster BUT nothing is even there

Great video. I remember when Fighting Spirit originally aired, and I remember thinking that it was weird that they changed the costume, particularly the helmet, when they had the footage of the Green Ranger, both Sentai and Power Rangers, available to them since they included it in Legacy of Power, so why not make it available to the costume designers who were making the suit?
Seems like a bit of an oversight not to include newer Sentai footage of Dragon Ranger for comparison. He's shown up in Gokaiger, Akibaranger and most recently Donbrothers. Unsurprisingly, he still looks like he did in Zyuranger
I liked to think that the 2nd suit was showing Jason move on from his past and crafting a new morpher based on a similar connection to the morphing grid like the other 5 original rangers had and was very much a prototype as its connection with the grid wasn't complete, hence why tommy had to fight 3 version of his past self. The 3rd suit with the master morpher would be the completed version with not just a stable and full connection to the grid but allowing tommy to also connect to his other ranger forms.
RIP JDF, I think his daughter should take the mantle of the green ranger, this can be explained by Tommy's master Morpher being copied or her using his. She can be Tommy and Cats daughter in the story, (JDF's real daughter) she has his DNA so she can use his master Morpher. Spending most of her time in the most iconic Ranger suit.
The reason the green ranger suit looks different in dinothunder was because it was a dream like state so not everything is accurate to real life the ledgendary battle and 25 anniversary special might have looked different because his powers were restored by the green Morphin Master so it was not the same power from original mmpr series.
That’s a good theory, realistically if that were true then it wouldn’tve carried over into the actual show and DVD photos after Dino Thunder 😶 l think they just thought it would’ve looked nice
Even so when Tommy uses the master morpher it looks more like OG the TV show look and not silver stripe on the helmet from this and Bat in the sun. Just go with it it looks cool a version of it made it into comics lore to differentiate Green Ranger powers and persons it's a win win
Be sensible. You're using your own head cannon as a reason when it's just a change they made to the suit either because they liked it better OR it was a mistake. Please STOP justifying things that aren't purposefully story related by making up reasoning. If you do want to do that then be truthful and at least state "this is what ID prefer to believe in MY own head cannon".
Does Jason still have access to the green ranger powers? Like using the shield and dagger? I am sorry if its a dumb question. I cant remember how it went but I remember Tommy transferring the green ranger powers to jason and I dont know if it was ever given back.
I just realized the red turbo ranger wasn't in fighting spirit. Or any of the other teamups for that matter. Turbo is like the stepchild of power rangers lol
Kat used Pink Turbo in dimensions in danger. What’s weird is TJ was in that episode and he used the blue in space powers instead even though he probably has red turbo too
The argument at the time was that the Turbo Powers were TJs, no longer his, and that they never really felt like Tommy's powers, even to him. So that he wouldn't consciously feel like they were a part of his spirit. At that point in the character's life (Turbo), he had kind of already checked out. What is odd is indeed, that whenever TJ comes back, barring Forever Red, he's always wearing his In Space Blue. Yet when we finally do get a Turbo suit returning in Dimensions in Danger, it's Kat wearing it with nobody repping Zeo whatsoever. Odd considering Zeo Pink is entirely her powers, and not a set of powers she shared with someone else, as was the case for her Pink MMPR and Pink Turbo powers. But from what I remember reading at the time, apparently she personally picked the Turbo suit over the Zeo one. I suppose the design is more 'cool' rather than the more 'classical' look of the Zeo suits.
He still holds the record for playing the most Rangers in the entire franchise Part of why he’s recognized as “the best” to a lot of people, one of the most iconic characters in Power Rangers
Me and my sister had the green ranger kata video as kids. The VHS got lost along the way.. we are both in our 30s.. after jdfs death this year we've been really hurting and linging for the nostalgia that video brought. I had an epiphany at Christmas though.. I had the laugh factory DVD collection DVDs in my collection and we pulled them out to try and see if the green ranger kata was in the special features. There was the second white ranger instructional video.. but no green ranger kata :( I've really got to find that video..
I don't think it SHOULD look the same every time. For example, in MCU most characters have a new costume every movie. Instead of every iteration of Green Ranger suit being an OOPS they should've just had a lore reason for the changes.
To be fair, Disney didn’t actually have the full rights. That’s why they didn’t have Ninja Storm do a crossover with Wild Force. In addition, when Adam returned in Once a Ranger, they couldn’t use the MMPR theme song or his original morphing sequence from the 90s which is why they had to do something new for him.
My thoughts on fighting spirit is that it is a dream and as such there are always changes…the holster could just be on the wrong sided because dreams can be seen as mirrored images…for example 666 for 999.
You keep saying the suit changed... I don't remember it ever being different! I swear it was always the the Dino Thunder version... Or wait... Hang on. NOW MY MEMORY CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE, DAMMIT... Thanks
@@HedgeOnStage He used the Turbo powers with the Master Morpher during Soul of the Dragon, which thus far seems to still be considered canon to the main PR timeline. So he can still access them. Though, with his passing, the canonicity of the comic might be changed with the special. Kind of depends on what exactly they do with the Green Ranger in the special.
Speculation, the dreamscape Tommy/Green ranger was not in the appropriate attire and with alternate looks, because it wasn't truly Tommy in the suit. And it being something happening in a dreamscape, it shouldn't look 100% authentic.
According to the rumor mill I heard that they had shipped Burai’s dragon shield to America for tommy to wear but when it got to them it was damaged forcing production to make their own dragon shield also u forgot the stripped suit Jason wore in the bat in the sun series my morphin life that officially got released as actual suits fan could get that was done for all mighty morphin rangers despite the strips make the suit inaccurate to the show
Think Doug Sloan requested these suits, and Toei gave him whatever. We don't know for sure if the Green suit was special edition, was an artist's interpretation....it just came that way and showrunners years later were too lazy to research further. Being interpreted as always being there, on MMPR DVDs, left much less optimism for the show back then.
Every time someone ask me what time it is I almost say morphing time but that is what happens when you grow up with the best rangers around. When someone ask Who you going call? You say ghost busters but when someone says what time you always want to say it Morphing Time to pay respect to the OG Rangers.
The zyuranger suit will always be the nest tbh, was never a fan of the cloth shield, later seasons like ninja steel did the suit justice, however i think they should have kept the silver to show that the green powers were purified from ritas magic, thats my fan theory, but i don't think inaccurate was the right word, more like toched up, or upgraded, because apart from the sentai, super megaforce -once and always is the best its ever looked

The reason the green ranger suit looks different in dinothunder was because it was a dream like state so not everything is accurate to real life the ledgendary battle and 25 anniversary special might have looked different because his powers were restored by the green Morphin Master so it was not the same power from original mmpr series.
That’s a good theory, realistically if that were true then it wouldn’tve carried over into the actual show and DVD photos after Dino Thunder 😶
l think they just thought it would’ve looked nice
All Power Ranger versions of the shield had the outer tips point upwards, while the Zyuranger version pointed downwards.
Who's ready for MMPR Green Ranger Adam Park?
I just look up the reason for Jason Frank death and was shocked.
r.i.p jdf
This was beautiful thank you sir
What? The morpher was gold? I never noticed that.
I honestly wished they’d bring it back
Thank you for this tribute.
That intro made me laugh my rear off 🤣
It can not be said enough: Once a Ranger.....
If you ask the silver detailing makes perfect sense. It looks cool.
I just realized the red turbo ranger wasn't in fighting spirit. Or any of the other teamups for that matter. Turbo is like the stepchild of power rangers lol
Kat used Pink Turbo in dimensions in danger. What’s weird is TJ was in that episode and he used the blue in space powers instead even though he probably has red turbo too
TJ used Red Turbo Powers in Forever Red.
I just remembered Forever Red
I didn't know Tommy was a red and black ranger
He still holds the record for playing the most Rangers in the entire franchise
Part of why he’s recognized as “the best” to a lot of people, one of the most iconic characters in Power Rangers
If you look at the DVD set the green ranger also has the white dragon dagger holder
There was the second white ranger instructional video.. but no green ranger kata :( I've really got to find that video..
the sliver strip goes hard tho 💯
IT DO TBH
@@HedgeOnStage Dude! So hard!
I don't think it SHOULD look the same every time. For example, in MCU most characters have a new costume every movie. Instead of every iteration of Green Ranger suit being an OOPS they should've just had a lore reason for the changes.
“How could they let that happen” more like how the heck could anyone care or even notice lol
that bit was in a joking manner, try not to take small things to heart, it makes life more enjoyable
RIP Green Ranger. I still like the silver on the helmet, though.
I wanna know who is the green ranger in the Netflix episode coming up and if they’re gonna give Jason any RIP during it
RIP Jason David Frank 🙏 missing you so much
Amazing
ty much love
2:28 broken green ranger chest shield
Disney era getting things wrong? Shocker
The suit from batinthesun where the green ranger fights Ryu is my favorite
Great analysis mate I thought it was stranger
On the picture of the 2023 special the morpher is silver again !!!
Thanks
I always wondered why they didn’t have him fight the Power Ranger Turbo self?🤔
During the Power Transfer in Turbo, Tommy entrusted the powers and Turbo Morpher to TJ. The Power was fully handed over
@@HedgeOnStage He used the Turbo powers with the Master Morpher during Soul of the Dragon, which thus far seems to still be considered canon to the main PR timeline. So he can still access them. Though, with his passing, the canonicity of the comic might be changed with the special. Kind of depends on what exactly they do with the Green Ranger in the special.
Episode runtime and the fact he was already fighting a Red Ranger were probably factors.
Me too
@@justinpullen1097 plus MMPR and Zeo were all his powers, he allowed Jason to borrow Green and even Zack once but they were still fully his
Green Ranger will always be my fave but damn that original Am suit was so low budget
Speculation, the dreamscape Tommy/Green ranger was not in the appropriate attire and with alternate looks, because it wasn't truly Tommy in the suit.
And it being something happening in a dreamscape, it shouldn't look 100% authentic.
Between this and the Titanium Ranger's mouthpiece being put over his visor, I wonder if the production staff just like to sabotage their own show.
His color wasn’t just green! It was Emerald green with golden accents .
Did the dino thunder helmet inspire the bat in the sun one?
Why is it they never acknowledge jdf was a turbo ranger also?
According to the rumor mill I heard that they had shipped Burai’s dragon shield to America for tommy to wear but when it got to them it was damaged forcing production to make their own dragon shield also u forgot the stripped suit Jason wore in the bat in the sun series my morphin life that officially got released as actual suits fan could get that was done for all mighty morphin rangers despite the strips make the suit inaccurate to the show
Bro his death was soo unexpected rip
The start 😭
Wait what about turbo
