Big shout out to whoever put this together. We appreciate when people go through and find the clips properly and dont just repeat the same 10 clips endlessly
It’s the company who makes the programme.
@@macsmiffy2197 the company employed someone to do it
'They're obviously stockpiling there, they know something we don't!' - I'm convinced most of us were aware on a subconscious level that something was just around the corner...
12:56 that really hasn't aged well
Im fourteen and looking at how changed and yet ageless Merton and Hislop look is really weird!!
and how the scandals never change 😂😂
You’re 14 and you know both Paul Merton and Ian Hislop?
@@bwnh3d there is hope... 🤔
@@bwnh3d Yeah, they pop around for tea every so now and again 🤣😂
Whoever was trawling through the clips to put this together either had a right laugh or became very depressed at 13:02
2:22 Love Richard Wilson's reaction to Mrs. Thatcher 😂
I'm sure he was very happy with the endless queue of pathetic buffoonish personalities that followed her.
All credit to Lembit Öpik, he knows how to make fun of himself and have a laugh. Just a shame he's gone wayward recently.
It's quite sad that this is gonna be the first Election where there's no HIGNFY Election special.
How come, do you know the reason why?
@@jack_fm2751there’s no time for it in the schedules with the Euros and Wimbledon
Busy Summer schedule on the BBC, Euros/Wimbledon etc.
Paul Merton's "I'm just bored and phoning it in" shtick is genius, because on the nights when he genuinely IS just bored and phoning it in nobody feels like they can say anything.
Ah, but that's his only shtick. Has been for decades.
I still miss Angus in HIGNFY.
Me too though there are certain celebrity quizmasters who do quite a good job... (And, I can't help but recall the 'beamed in' funny William Shatner and his mispronounced "Ill_fra_cooomb" - the den of iniquity/ full of prostitution?!!😮😅 Poor Ilfracombe?!)
He was funny, but exceptionally rude sometimes which is why Paul couldn't stand him.
Oh the memories. Quite a blast from the past. The only thing I remember from the 1997 edition was Richard Wilson talking about NHS managers and saying "stoooooool"
Angus D was brilliant
“You could have Ed Milliband as Prime Minister, and you haven’t voted for him EITHER…” wait for 2007-2024, Ian!!!
I want Angus back; 22 years is more than enough time served.
His reasons for being fired seem quite tame now compared to having had Boris Johnson as PM
1:03:50 'They're obviously stockpiling there, they know something we don't'
aged like milk
Hmm..indeed. Although, he wasn't going to any emergency meetings, so he probably didn't
@@stuartpaulsmith3186 Oh I didn't mean to suggest they actually knew anything, just caught me off guard a bit heh.
So Boris has been PM now so who has a champagne cork and a frisbee we can use? 😂
Is there a HIGNFY election special tonight or tomorrow? Purrrrlease…it’s been a truly sh*te 6 weeks/14yrs…give us bloody laugh!?
Anyone got a champagne cork and/or frisbee?...
Sad there wont be an election show this year
I can’t believe it
Why not?
@@karinahansen9884I believe it's the first time in the shows run that a General Election has been called when the series isn't on. They're invariably in May when the Spring season airs and the 2019 election was in November during the Winter series. It's a shame the BBC didn't commission a one-off
@@jimwantsaliens not the first time. the 1992 GE episode was aired when the series wasn't on.
Why?
God, I'm in far too deep. I recognised Peter Obourne and the name Lynton Crosby.
This is like watching my life flash before my eyes, although 2010 feels like only a few years ago. Christ... I just had a horrible thought. I thought "I wish it were then, not now". Then I remembered we'd have 14 years of Tory awfulness in-front of us, and the looming spectre of Boris Johnson on the horizon. Like an unkempt ice-berg... I'll take being old.
And what have we fkn learned?
Nothing!!??
Looking back at how right Ian was talking about Boris winning the election. He knew he was a liar and it would all go downhill.
Galloways ego in full view. Hasn’t changed a bit. It’s all me me me with him.
Angus was the best ever host. His 'crime' was no more than adultery, which is pretty much the norm for most celebrities/politicians.
... that and the cocaine, alleged.
Oh, getting rid of him was hypocritical nonsense. I think his buddy Stephen Fry put it best when he said that he has refused all overtures to be a guest host because of the decision to fire Deaton, which Fry called "greasy, British and pathetic."
The BBC is rather hypocritical, demonising someone for doing wrong
Besides that, treating him like he's the next Hitler is laughable
I respectfully disagree, it's a lot better with different hosts
@@Ann-oh6qw who the hell deleted my comment?!
How dare anyone tell me no!!!
A brilliant montage, going back to when politics was- just as crazy as now.
Brandreth has hardly changed over 40 years.
Attention seeking egotist.
Gillain Duffy was indeed a bigot.
And Jo saying Cameron didnt look like he had another term in him...
No - I’m glad we kept Blair! Hussein should have been ousted in 1991 re Conservatives and the USA balls it up
Surprised that you didn't include the moment that Ed Miliband resigned during the same recording as Nick Clegg. Romesh's reaction is priceless there.
When will new episodes be put on Iplayer again? We so need a good laugh these days.
October. That’s what I heard somewhere, but you might want to double check. :)
@@ZolaClyde Just in time for US elections!!
@@ZolaClyde I thought they may have stopped for fear of being accused of influencing the elction (a shame as i can only imagine the fun they would have with some of the election news). October seems so far away. It is the last great comedy news show (now mock the week is no more :( )
45:28 Torsten Bell just became an MP!
I had forgotten all about Kilroy!
I always forget Kilroy's name...
(& I was on his show twice!!😂)
Very funny but they still think politicians are relevant and not thoroughly obligated to their doners, as every politician with any semblance of influence is.
Can’t beat Angus ❤
Dispise Galloway but agree this was a stupid question to ask...Paxman can be a tool
Great old fun!!
Those red roses are Soo dead!?
Is that a thing?
Giles Brandreth is wonderful ❤
Probably not meant to be that funny but the severed hand holding the torch as the Tory logo really tickled me.
Shame there won't be an election special this year. I'm sure it would have been interesting.
Beardy man of Barnsley made me belly-laugh
Im sure nick ross was just goading richard wilson to go 'I DON'T BELIEVE IT!'
Why was Justine Greenings name behind angus in 2001 when she wasn’t elected until 2005 genuinely confused
Who let Paul out in that top
What's Lembit doing now? He was a good sport here: quite funny.
Whatever happened to Nick Ross? Did he end up having nightmares?
I am no longer Bow I am no longer feeling funny.bout Kev or Bow whom ever she was..
Most excellent🎉🎉🎉
People of Richmond and Northallerton Vote for Count Binface. Great compilation thanks.
Please bring back Angus Deayton. The show has been atrocious for the last few years. The guest presenters were good for a while but the novelty has worn off and the quality is just all over the place now
I agree. Angus was perfect for this show. Yes, he did wrong, and I can see why they felt that if he stayed other people would always bring up Angus past. However I feel both Ian and Paul detest him even to this day, that he will never return
Obligatory comment:
A) Angus was the best presenter.
B) It's not as funny as it used to be.
C) Bloody BBC bias.
There you are: now you don't have to waste your time. Just watch the video and enjoy.
👏👏👏
Nice to see Angus again.
2:20 Is this where the Tories got their idea for their vile "Surrender" poster from?
Maybe. Thatcher probably stole it from some earlier thing
Just shows how slick the programme was under Angus. Its never been as cutting or satirical since.
Ian and Paul are superb satirists but Angus was a superb hosts.
Frankie Boyle should host
I just wanted Ian to know as he works? for Private eye magazine ?I think ?
16:29 🗿
Nice to see Jon Richardson's comment about Corbyn and the 2019 election back in circulation, it's been missing for sometime now.
I can now concentrate on the game
In the second clip, we see Gyles Brandreth next to Paul but can anyone tell me who is sitting next to Ian please?
Clive Anderson
@@roundig Thanks
Clive before his was shot and killed by Noel Edmunds.
Same as it ever was...........
I've only seen elderly Giles, so I thought it was all old age but no, it's just Giles! Lol By the way, anyone else distracted by his missing side burns?
Shhh! Not so much of the elderly, even though he has been around forever. I miss when he wore specs, but that was before HIGNFY.
@@DC-wt2vi Now I want to see that version of Giles, too! Lol
In 2024, Im currently wishing Lembit would run for prime minister
Is he still married to a Cheeky Girl? Cuz can you imagine........
22:45 No.
12:30
😂😂😂
Bring back angus
Compared to now the Tories half decent party back in 1997. It's shame they're. doing a special for this year's election what the help going on at the bbc?
bad upload. It is from decades ago!!
Hasn't been funny for 20 years.
Yet you watched it and decided to comment on it 💀😂
@@joec2104 Yeah funny that, who would have thought, somebody watching something and having an opinion, outrageous, it might catch on one day.
@@jasonkingshott2971why are you watching videos of it if it’s “hasn’t been funny for 20 years” 🙃 don’t watch it if you don’t like it
