- While most people are flocking towards 4Runner's and Land Cruiser's for tens of thousands of dollars, the Nissan R50 Platform is a fantastic way to get into the off roading scene, without breaking your wallet.

I have 2002 QX4, amazing vehicle, bought it with 186k, now at 228k, it just keeps going, extremely reliable. That Japanese build quality
Nice!!! That's excellent!
Nissan tends to be overlooked when it comes to off-roading as people always look at Toyota’s and Lexus offerings but one must realize that Nissan and Infiniti also have a strong off-road heritage, today Nissan makes the frontier and Armada/patrol and Infiniti makes the Infiniti qx80 which are very solid off-roaders, i know Nissan doesn’t have a stellar reputation for quality and reliability as they used to but despite that I still consider Nissan to be the real competitor to Toyota unlike Honda which has no 4x4s and only little experience making rwd cars
I agree! Nissan trucks have always been decent competitors to Toyota’s at least to me. They’re solid trucks! I really like the R50
請問一下,針對QX4這台20年以上的中古車?周遭有朋友想賤價賣我,我在猶豫,主要是擔心除了以後稅金重之外,還有將來保養維修費不知道會不會很貴,想聽聽您的意見?
The early 2000's were their peak with tech and well built cars. After Renault started playing more of a role and Nissan was seeing less of its consumer vehicles being built in Japan their quality overall went down the crapper.
I just bought a 2001 qx4 today and this review is super helpful
Nice man I’m glad!
You know what's weirder then watching someone drive the SUV you brought home from the hospital (and therefore the first car you rode in)? When the roads the person drives reviewing it does it on roads between the house you grew up in AND said hospital
No way!! That's crazy 😆
I just inherited a 2002 QX4 and love it. Thanks for helping me out to learn more about it.
Happy to help!!
The 3.5 in this, as well as the Pathfinder, is pretty much bullet proof.
These cars are GREAT
Superb!!
I'm 17 about to buy a 02 qx4 as a back up to my 97 f150. Thank you for the explanation and showing of all the important things. First video I've seen of this channel and I'm quite impressed and would absolutely love to see more content.
Nice! Thanks man I appreciate you!
good video sir and nice to see mike in front of the camera. Keep up the good work. I remember the QX4s when they are new and they were cool a nicely dressed up pathfinder with more tech and luxury features.
Thank you! Yeah they’re cool trucks 😎
Excellent review! I have an 2003 LE Pathfinder 4x4 and it has been an amazing car for my 10 years of ownership. Interesting to see the many similarities and differences between these two.
Thank you!! I'd love to get my hands on a Pathfinder one day. Good trucks.
Nice video I like how it’s put together. I have a 2001 QX4 it’s at 195,000 currently still going strong! It has a 3 inch lift and I take on the trails in Washington.
Thank you! Very nice under 200k haha
Great review guys!
Thank you gents! Hope we’ll see you sometime soon!!
I had one, it had so many problems, I will never get a next one again, the parts were costly, too, I cannot ever remember a month I drove this car where something did not go wrong, never again ........
Owned a 2002 QX4 for a year, got it at 108k miles and 19 years old. Loved the visibility, handling, ride, fit/finish, price and advanced gtr awd. Had to get rid of it tho because the navigation system contained the air condition system and buttons would pop off with no replacement - known issue. Also, the biggest problem was rust. There was recall on the Q and pathfinder r50s which was the kiss of death of mine. Love these otherwise as it was reliable when I owned outside of chugging gas. can’t recommend them enough.
Ahh yeah that’s annoying! Cliff had some rust as well haha, pain. They’re such good trucks
Love this channel! I like that you guys will do older cars that haven't exactly hit classic status yet.
Ahh thank you!! That means a lot!
Hay family friend! I’m just about to pick up my R50 (2001 Pathfinder LE) here. Great video! Love me some car gays!
Nice!! Enjoy it!!
Thank you for watching!!
My 94 Pathfinder ain't working, so I'm getting a 98 QX4...so excited...Thanx for the video 😊
Nice!! 😁😂
You guys are made for this. Excellent review.
Thank you!! Means a lot!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the video. I am looking for a replacement to my car,(which was totaled out, due to its year.)but don't want a car payment or another sedan. So I've seen at least 2 of these with decent mileage (under 150K)I hope a QX4 is some what of a step up. Keep up the good work😎👍
Thank you! I definitely recommend these!
Great job both of you.
Thank you!!
Thank you very much!
this is a super slept on vehicle!
Yes!!
Might be buying one these for my first car! This exact year
Nice!!! You’ll really love it
Nice video Bernard.
Thank you sir!
Recently bought a 1997 LE pathy with 123,000 miles for $1500 with very little rust. So far it’s much better than my van which has had $15k in repairs done to it over the three years I’ve owned it
Damn what a good deal!
Nice Video, $1000 might be a little hard to find, I have this 01 in Gold and I still love it. You're right, not too many out there now, maybe a modern day SUV classic?
Nice! It would be cool to see them as valued Classics, but time will tell. Always a cool siding when I see one on the road
Pathfinders and qx4s are performers!! Well known lol
my fit can feet under the seats.....lol.... bro i just like how you review your cars. funny but yet realistic
I appreciate that!!
My dad had a QX4 that I still wish I had got from him before he scrapped it because thew speaker system in that car is unmatched. Bose really nailed it in that car. Everything sounds super clear with punchy low-end. Modern systems sound too boomy in the low end and harsh and hyped in the top end where the Qx4 had effortless clarity. Does anyone have a similar experience to me and maybe know of other models with similar systems?
My 2002 has 247K also. I've driven it since 177K. Very dependable although a clogged transmission cooler/radiator caused the last owner's transmission to fail. I had a cheap rebuild done ($1300) and it only lasted a year and decided to spend 3.5K on a 3 year warranted one. It was a tough decision but considering it is a rust free California car with great body/paint and $40K new I went ahead with it. These cars have terrific stock stereos (switch out the head unit with Bluetooth) with their own subwoofer. Greta power. Great road car. Great climber.
Not bad! Yeah man they're sweet little trucks for sure!
Nice video! 🙌🏽 I love my 02 QX4….I cant believe how satisfied I am driving this vehicle, as I do automotive marketing and im in new cars everyday. I wish my door chime sounded like the one in your QX4, mine has the old Honda beep-beep-beep sound. I wonder if I can change mine out?
Thank you!! Interesting! I didn't even notice the chime till now LOL.
Yep 🤣 The 2001 has a nice luxury chime.
Damn we just watched it over hahaha interesting!!!
I strongly considered one of these when i was looking for a good daily, went with an 04 grand cherokee limited with the v8 and quadra-drive. Always loved this gen of infiniti/nissan
Me too! Yeah I reviewed a V8 Limited JGC a few months ago! Fun to drive. Excellent trucks
Great video and I agree. I have a r51 Pathfinder with Old Man Emu suspension. OME is also available for the r50. Toyota's are expensive and Nissan is a great alternative.
Thank you! I can’t wait for the mods to begin haha
We like our Pathfinders. 04Le 03SE. SE roof rack is awesome.
Excellent! I love the SE Rack
I had a 2003 Infiniti QX4. Loved it but I sold it a few years back. Now I want to buy another one.
You should buy mine! Hahaha. They're solid vehicles! I see why people like them now
I have an 01 coming from another 01 I bought back in 2018 for $500 that I lost do to a collision. The 2nd thermo is for quicker warmup, specifically in colder climate. It only opens at certain temp above normal operating temps. You can gut the inside of the back thermo and leave the gasket/housing for sealing purposes to get more consistent cooling, if you don’t live in freezing climates (I did this since I live in California). The 350z/g35 guys do what’s called the pathfinder cooling mod, the heads receive better flow with the included center tube from the valley(under intake manifold).
I also hate how little the back door opens lol. Infiniti should of put the vk v8 of the same years from the Q45, would of made this platform even more tasteful. Great review👍🏾
Interesting!! I never knew that! Makes sense.
Right! We were talking about how cool a QX45 would be LOL
V8 would have been nice but QX4 is already quite thirsty (15/16 mpg in city, sometimes worse) so adding a bigger engine might have been a tough sell.
I have a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4x4 that I bought with 173k with a real clean interior. The only issue it had was the notorious oil cooler o-ring that was causing a minor leak that I fixed for $10. I got it for $3500. I got it because it has the mechanical 4x4 shifter (which I prefer). I had an LE lined up but I honestly didn't want leather because most at that age always crack/rip on driver's side seat by driver's door. The cloth seats are actually very comfortable. Engine runs tip top and transmission shifts like a dream. While MPG could be better considering the price I paid for it and the condition it's I'm sure I can get an easy 80k miles out of it and I take care of my cars (also do a lot of my own work on them). Doesn't burn oil, 4x4 works great too. The r50 Pathfinders/QX4s I think are a tremendous value if you can find one in good condition. If taken care of with routine maintenance they are easy 250k ish miles cars. I've seen many with over 300k too.
Nice! Theyre such solid trucks
I have owned a 2002 QX4 for 5 years now with 140K miles on it and it runs GREAT! It's Great SUV!
Nice!!!
Have you ran into any issues or has it broken down?
I have the 99 Infiniti qx4. It’s been sitting for years but I’m ready to restore it and get it back on the road pretty soon
Nice that's cool! You totally should! It's a sweet little truck
I like it!
Me too! I like them too much LOL
So are you doing an Offroad Infinity build👍🏼👍🏼
Which parts of the car are known to rust out? Where should I pay attention to if I go to look at one for sale? Great video, thanks!
Thank you! Usually the underside/frame, and also the rear fender wells love rusting out too
I almost bought a black on black one of these but ended up going for something a little newer and more comfortable with my 2012 XC70 T6.
Nice! Great choice!! Very similar driving experience
That model came out while I was in college and I wanted one *so* badly but of course I couldn’t afford one at the time; but I loved its aesthetics along with the I35, second-gen Q45, and first-gen M45. - Having recently owned a second-gen G35S, I’ll always be a huge proponent of the early 2000s Infiniti lineup. Great review!
Thank you! The QX has really made me appreciate older Infiniti’s more!
I use to have a 2000 Pathfinder, and was overall solid suv, I think the lack of a true lift kit like Toyota and jeep is why the community never gravitated for them. If your not going to rock crawl and just basic off road, I think its a great bang for buck. People steered to the Xterra.
I also remember having low power, and horrible gas mileage,
The gas mileage sure isn't great 💀
Ahh yeah that 3.3 was sloww haha. That's also a good point. Def not the same amount of aftermarket suspension for these.
The 3.3 sucked
Great review! I’ve personally owned 3 QX4’s. The one I own currently I also picked up for $800 needing a few things, and I adore it! It’s fully loaded with intelligent cruise control, the dvd system, lsd, heated seats etc. The cruise control is amazing. Can’t believe it was an option in 2002. Mine has 150k on it now and runs great, but I’m on the hunt for a clean sub 100k mile QX4 from the south that is rust free. I fear mine will rust out in the next 3-5 years unfortunately :(.
Thank you! Nice!! The intelligent cruse is impressive for an 02!
Just for those coming to this vid more recently, these and most used cars have sadly shot way up in price. Picked mine up for 3400 with 178000 miles on it. Sadly mine had a totally shot front steering assembly and leaked oil. So I’ve dumped some coinage into her, but now she drives like a dream. Kinda reminds me of the 2004-5 Volvo xc90 driving experience really grips the road and feels heavy. Mines also the tricked out model has the dvd player, multi cd player, old sat nav computer all buttons still intact. Only problem left is that I can’t lock the doors or my alarm will go off and won’t stop until I pull the fuse. Ahhhh the joy of old shit. Mine also doesn’t seem to have to much rust, has what almost looks like an undercoating on the frame, don’t know if that was apart of the recall or not. I’m sure I’ve over paid in starting price and repairs for such an old rig but I couldn’t find anything that wasn’t overpriced or a pile of junk in my area.
I totally agree with how they drive! I love the XC90 and that’s why I love the QX4, such a sturdy ride
The 3.3 deserves justice in terms of unprecedented reliability compared to VQ. Just be mindful of that timing belt.
You're not wrong! Strong little engines
Both good engines with their relative weaknesses. The VQ put up better hp/tq numbers but they were more finnicky. You have to be on top of the VQ maintenance. Religious oil changes and paying attention to the oil cooler o-ring are important.
Imagine if these came with ventilated seats and heat steering wheels you have a well-equipped QX4 I didn't know they had Lamar support for the front seats until I saw this video and I didn't know you can get the 16 inch older rims also
That’d be so nice! Yeah I didn’t know about the smaller wheels till researching for this vid myself!
I'm actually looking for a cheap, budget offroader to turn into a camper. My dad used to have a 02 Pathfinder LE, so getting one of these would be nostalgic.
Any chance you could ask Michael where he bought this?
Facebook marketplace! Bern actually found the specific listing and messaged the seller!
Автору Респект 👍У меня vg33e доволен как слон 😊
Cheers!!
Cool
What about the 95-98 Mits Montero SR. It was popular among the full body 90s SUVs.
Those were also solid! I’d like to review one one day
I wanted one for a while!
I wanted one but heard finding parts was a beast. The guy on TFL Offroad channel had one but I think he got rid of it for the same reason. Couldn't find parts!
Wow one that hasn't rusted to death.
LOL
I would like to see Xterra reviews on both generations, please.
I will try to get a hold of one!!
What is a good going rate for a 2001 QX4 4x4 optioned SUV today?? Seen one listed at $3,500 local here in Florida seemed a bit high but not too familiar
$3500 is a good price for one honestly
first gen xterra is another high standard. i think too many people are starting to realize though because they're slowly getting more expensive.
Very true plus if I'm right, some got a rear locker? They're cool looking too
Everyone just ignore the check engine light please and thank you 😎
Outta sight outta mind
Yup
Every Qx4 I've seen including mine has ripped side bolsters on the front seats. Nissan could've used thicker leather. But honestly if you can find a clean one go for it. They handle awesome even though they are not sporty, smooth, quiet, functional, and I wait for snowstorms to come so I can use that awesome 4wheel drive package. Thanks for the review
Im glad you enjoyed! So true. We always find torn up seats in the junkyard!
@@BernonCars I have same issue with my seats and junkyard still the have the same ripped seats for this SUV( this Is my second QX4 I have)
What was up with the cooling system? I'm thinking of buying one of these or another SUV from the same era
The VQ’s in these have two thermostats, and the secondary one is hidden under the intake manifold, not a real hard job, just time consuming, but a lotta people seem to get rid of these because of not knowing there’s 2 thermostats
@@BernonCars Thank you. Really enjoy your videos!
@@a-dog8075 that means a lot thank you!!
I just Bought a 1999 with 228k miles and it drives so well. 4x4 works great and does feel like a luxury SUV from the 90's! The interior reminds me of my 2001 Lexus es300 which was one of my favorite cars.
Nice! Yeah they're really great! I miss driving it!
Loc-tite your power valve screws off it hasn't been done already
That's a clean machine right there. Mine is a salvage and is pretty crap looking. It's a nice vehicle though.
Thank you! Yeah even the rough ones can be sweet little trucks
r50 is more capable off roader
than majority of awd today
Absolutely
Venerable: good word
Thanks to John Davis, of MOTOR-WHEEL
just bought a 2003 nissan infiniti qx4, if im going to be honest this is my first car. is there anything i should know about it ?
Right on! I hope it’s treated you well so far. Theyre pretty reliable trucks, I would just make sure you have new spark plugs in it, and with light maintenance it’ll last you!
How does the R50 QX4 compare to a Mitsubishi Montero Sport?
Close competitors, I haven't experienced a Montero Sport much honestly!
DEEPA!
DEEEEPAAAA!!
whats the learning curve with the AC?
Since they have two thermostats, the one that’s hidden is way down in the engine and its just a time consuming process
@@BernonCars I hate driving my Q'ie (its a nickname lol) in the summer because I cant get the "ECON" or whatever to actually ever blow cold air. Just wondering if theres a hack out there somewhere.
nissan scares me. toyota is my friend
Yeah right LOL
These "finds" aren't legit as a bargain deal option. $1000. If he actually paid that little. Its like 1 in 100.000 find. Cant find 1 for less than 4,000.
31 December 2022
I listed mine for sale as soon as he said “my boyfriend”
Sorry 🤧
The QX56 looks cursed.
They are 😂
This lamb likes to graze on Peeps. This lamb wonders how many of these were sold in the USA with a manual transmission.
they are so slow. I was glad to trade our 02 for a 08 4 runner v6. way better truck
The 3.3 is slow but the 3.5 isn’t too bad, at least from my experience
Boyfriend Michaels car? I watched the great and informative video about car I might buy just to learn there are two perverts driving it
Your loss, my gain :)
🫶
I have some questions:
1. How durable is the automatic gearbox? As I understand automatic was the only option available. Does it have way to select lower gear when overtaking?
2. The 4x4 can be turned on on-the-go or full stop is required?
3. The car I am looking to buy have 3.5L benzine engine with LPG kit installed. Since gas is hotter than benzine, will it have overheating problems? What about these two thermostats?
I do not worry that much about the lack of power that people in comments mentioned. I have driven Opel Frontera 2.4i 1995 and it had even less power, but still enough when driven hard and properly.
4. Why gay? Only gay person I personally knew did it for money to buy drugs because he was too lazy to work or steal stuff. He did a quick rot walker or put ding-dong into bum-bum but never lived with another guy like a real couple. I cannot wrap my head around the idea why another guy can be attractive and not girl.
You think he would answer your question??
