I have the 98 qx4. Just did the front and rear coil springs with new struts up front, and both front axles and control arms and a new rack and pinion. I am not a mechanic by trade, but i like working on my own cars. That is one thing i love about this car, it is really easy to work on. At least when there is no rust on them. The resale value sucks but for as good as it does in snow and ice, i will keep fixing it cause i love how well it does in the winter.

Beautiful! I'm also a sucker for that styling. I wish mine was in that condition. Currently, at 179k with some rust and a few other odd ball issues. I've seriously considered getting an upgrade, but when I crank it and take off I am always reminded how much I love it. It's just smooth. And it's a beast in the snow. Thanks for the video.

You have to be very proactive with rust prevention...there are products out there that can help dissolve rust and defintely undercoat the frame especially around the strut towers. Cheers

There’s something special about this generation. Perfect size whether you have a family or just want something to drive for yourself. Almost looks like a 2 door with the grab handle. Just really cool. Plus this one has the powerful. 3.5L V6. Very reliable. Too bad they were very expensive when new at least in Canada. Somewhere around $55,000 20 years ago.

That looks to be in fine shape. When I was searching for mine I was really surprised by the fact that on the used market, Pathfinders of the same year and mileage would sell for more than the better equipped QX4.

I have the same QX4 last manufactured in 2003 in the 2WD option. No butt warmers, though who needs them here in Texas! Still runs very strong. I agreed with you, they don’t make these kind of vehicles anymore. These models are fast becoming classic collections.

A fun tidbit about the Infiniti QX4, is that their drivetrain has more in common with the Nissan Skyline GT-Rs of the same era, in that it uses the same ATTESSA AWD system, abeit in automatic transmission. It was also sold in Japan as Nissan Terrano Regulus, where as the normal version, with the Nissan Pathfinder drive train, is sold as the Nissan Terrano.

Now it has 197,000 miles and i replaced all suspension and steering for just under 1500$ with me doing the work. I also did the timing belt and front crankshaft seal myself for 135$ they are super easy to work on if you have common sense and basic tools.. I live in north idaho.

It could be the Rear Main Seal. When I got rid of my 2001 Qx4 4x4, the RMS started to leak(drips under the car, and oil pan/drain was wet every time I checked) around 210,000 miles mark. I bought it used from an original owner.

The Infiniti FX series are not related to the Nissan Murano. It is closer to the Infiniti G-series and the Nissan 350Z, as these all use Nissan's FM platform for RWD based drivetrains. The Murano is closer to the Infiniti I35/Nissan Altima.

I wish my QX4 had the heated seats it went through driving as with off reading the suspension takes a beating it does run good the only negative side is the power antenna that can never survive a car wash it would be better if the antenna is built in that's not motorized and could have the navigation stereo with six cd changer. I don't know about the airbags do work all the way around or have the keyless button other than a key to disengage the anti theft alarm as well as know about the interior fuse box the information is too small to read even with glasses that has two in size lettering

It's a shame where Nissan/Infiniti stands today in the U.S. market. In the late 90's to mid 00's they were producing some really great cars/SUVs. The Pathfinder, Xterra, Hardbody, Maxima, etc. were all quality made vehicles. The Frontier and Titan are still good vehicles, but are not the right vehicles to compete in the U.S. market.

    • @bmwtek13

@Bret C Couldn't agree more. Not to mention, the Z32 300zx, 240sx etc. They were a true enthusiast company at the core back then, but we're hemorrhaging money at the same time.

    • @bmwtek13

@toni ortiz, it depends how bad the leak is. If it's minor, I would leave it and just drive the car. Keep the oil level checked.
