I’d have liked to see what you put in the buckets, how big the bottom hole is and what keeps the bees in, and what did you bait it with? Did the one you showed have a queen when you checked? Did she stay? It seems clever but that’s not enough.
Thanks Barbara, I have another video on how we put them together. This is just adding more security on catching our swarms if we miss a queen cell when we do our weekly maintenance checks in the apiary. On this hive, yes we absolutely had our old queen in this swarm. They will stay in a new box every time, especially when we add a queen excluder to the new hive entrance. This is just until she gets laying on the new frames. Then it's removed.
Thanks for the tour of your farm last fall! What time of year would you recommend putting the swarm traps out in Central Florida? Also, it looks like you put the several vents on the side of these traps but you put a single vent on the bottom on your how too video. Which would you recommend based on your results?
1 vent on the bottom with a screen over it. You also need vents on the side for them to get it in and get a good wiff of the Lemongrass oil or Swarm commander. Just a little on a Q-tip (both ends) and a little old comb (optional) if you have it. Change Q-tip every couple of weeks. Now is a good time to put them up for Central Florida. Good luck.
Only when the weather permits it. I don't recommend going without a veil but i really don't like wearing them. The girls do remind me sometimes of why I should rethink that but if the sun is out and no rain insight, I'm good to go.
great ! I love it when a beekeeper is good enough not to wear protective gear and not get stung either... good job
Honestly it's just knowing when you can get away with it. I hate veils but do use them when necessary. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks again.
The way you set up the stands are Brilliant!
guna save this 2nd year beekeeper loads on traps great vid ty for sharing!!!

Where can I learn how to make one of these amazing bee traps?
I have another video on making these on my channel. Super easy, only takes about 10 minutes. Good luck and happy hunting.
@@scrublandfarmz9941 I'm subscribing now. Thank you!
Will a bucket trap be as consistent as a wood trap over time? Thank you.
I change them out about every 2 years.
Bad to the bone... no suit required.

YOU need a new mic
Agreed. I like using my phone but doesn't work well with mic's. I've tried a few with negative results. Thanks, I'm working on it.
