I’m impressed with how many you got through! Still chugging through HMRC over here because life reasons. I’m impressed you got through the Honey Witch. I DNF-ed a third of the way through. I couldn’t take the writing style. It was so clearly a first novel that was overwritten, but also didn’t share enough. It wasn’t like those books where you know they’re withholding the information for a purpose, it was the author understood her world so well she didn’t feel the need to explain it, but you needed to appreciate how clever she was at every turn of phrase.
I can't disagree with your assessment of Honey Witch. I think I just really wanted to keep my copy and that motivated me to ignore the eyeroll worthy moments (and there were a lot of them). It might sour on me later though, we'll see!
So excited to hear that about The Stardust Grail, I got it as an add on with Bury Your Gays from Aardvark. And I’ve been curious about The God and the Gumiho so I’m gonna give it a try. AND and now I’m very curious about Long Live Evil, that’s going on my library request/holds immediately!
Loong video, I ended up watching it in three installments. Big squee about your crafted Dalek! Is it knitted or crocheted? I couldn't really see clearly? Did you make it yourself? So happy to hear Long Live Evil is fun, my friend Des won a signed copy of it during a panel at WorldCon this previous weekend (along with a bunch of other signed books, I'm totally not jealous).
Sadly I am not crafty! My friend Lindsay made it for me. She told me she was making me a Dalek and I thought it would be like a handsize one but then it was enormous. (It's Dalek Caan, by request.) Ooh, free books. My copy of the book will be signed, I think, but mostly I'm just hoping they will change the cover a little bit bc I'm not a fan of the current one, even though I loved the book. I hope you love it!
great vlog! wow you got a lot done :) I just go Margo’s Got Money Troubles… my last 5 star was I Hope This Finds You Well by Natalie Sue and I’m kinda getting the same vibes, it was very quirky funny heartfelt 🤩 I had no idea Illumicrate was doing a science fiction sub, that’s so exciting!!! 🎉 💀
Yeah, it's called Starsight, and the books they listed as comparisons for the type of books they'll be offering are awesome: Gideon the Ninth, A Memory Called Empire, Ancillary Justice, The Fifth Season, Wayfarers, Murderbot, Project Hail Mary, etc. Super pumped! I don't read enough sci-fi.
I read Silver Nitrate earlier this year. Maybe I liked it better than you did because I've been to Mexico City several times and I was an adult in the early 90's when it takes place. The magic system was a little fuzzy, but I thought it was clear enough for plot purposes. I just started one of her other books, The Daughter of Doctor Moreau. It's the first one of hers I've read with a non-adult protagonist, so we'll see how that goes.
@@theanswerisbooks that was the first one of hers that I read. Very atmospheric, decent characterizations, but the twist was a bit obvious for people who have read a lot of gothic books.
I actually already know the whole plot haha. I spoiled myself fully because I didn't think I was ever going to read it! But it's fine, I don't really care about spoilers for most things, I'm there for the vibes and the characters, not the twists.
Ok I’m only two minutes into the video (and I hope you don’t take this the wrong way) but you totally give me neurodivergent (especially autistic and/or ADHD) vibes. I’m an AuDHD myself and I really enjoy how you make your content :) /pos Edit: watching Yuri on Ice, good taste. It’s my second favorite anime of all time! Also, if you are able to try the sub version, I highly recommend it
Um, yes, very neurodivergent. I've done all but be officially tested for ADHD and while I have a lot of the symptoms I don't seem to fit with a lot of it, so I don't think I have that, but I do however definitely have OCD and Synesthesia (specifically color-grapheme synesthesia), and most very probably yes, I am autistic. Would have been helpful to know a lot earlier in life 😂 I switch back and forth between dubs and subs when I watch anime, for the most part. I actually wanted to watch the sub this time around but I forgot to change my settings and then was too lazy to change it. There are some that I can't do the dub on at all though, like FMA Brotherhood. What's your first favorite?
I appreciate your concern, but what I do is no different from having a passenger that I'm talking to. My phone is mounted and I don't touch it when I'm driving.
@@theanswerisbooks I don't mind the driving and talking, but I did get a little nervous when you kept looking at the camera and away from the road. That;'s a disaster waiting to happen.
wow, that was intense! well done on reading so many of those subscription box books! I love crossing-things-off-list energy
Haha that's ok! The emoji thing is mainly for people who don't want to say anything, and you're normally very chatty :)

OOoh, I really hope you love Long Live Evil. I feel weirdly protective of it.

@@theanswerisbooks sci-fi books are my first loves, I used to read so many but I haven’t lately, can’t wait to just have them come to me haha. Thanks!
Make sure to put your name on the interest list. I think the subscription starts in February.

Aww. There are no hawk emojis. Great job rescuing the baby.
It was extremely cute but also ugly and I felt very powerful but also parental. Very weird feelings that morning.
Makes sense that I gave baby x 2 stars. Thrillers don’t always do it for me
Same! But this book could have been so much better.

Please don’t film while driving. If not for your own safety then for the safety of those around you. Please.

Apologize for my unhinged dogs
They're special 😂
