Tayrona has some of the best beaches in the world. There is something about it that you will never forget. If you can't hike you can go to Playa Crystal, to get there you take a 45 minute bus ride, pass through the Park security, then take a small boat for 10 minutes right to the beach. It is never crowded, the water is crystal clear, colors of the coral reef are vibrant, and the fish are uniquely beautiful. As for businesses you can rent snorkel equipment, and one wonderful restaurant on the beach that serves the freshest and most delicious seafood. The few boats that service it beach arrive in the morning around 10 AM to drop off, and pick up their customers around 5:00 PM. As the video indicated there are other beaches if you want to hike further in the Park which are just incredible, and you are allowed to stay overnight there in a small hut. I've been here several times, including for my honeymoon. I can't wait to go back again!

Thanks for the comment! I really loved Medellin, Cartagena and Santa Marta. Bogota was my least favorite and Barranquilla is just a port town. Tayrona park is amazing, the water clarity will depend on the weather. Also some parts of the beach in Tayrona are very dangerous and swimming is prohibited....so be sure to look for signs. Have a fun trip, I wish I was going back!

When I was there it was really safe and you could rent a tent for one person. Have fun in Colombia. Be sure to take bug spray just in case.

Hey, I'm going to Santa Marta next week with my wife, and I'm enjoying your videos, good job!
I heard that San Juan is a fantastic place in Tayrona Park. It's possible to visit the Park and get to San Juan in just one day?

I was in Parque Tayrona in May 2010 without yellow fever vaccine. In December I am going there again, and this time I am going to be vaccinated just in case as yellow fever is very dangerous. In Colombia almost everybody is vaccinated against yellow fever just to be safe.

I think I didn't get a yellow fever vaccine until I was there, because if you want to travel to other countries in south and central america I think it is mandatory. I never met anyone that caught yellow fever while traveling through Colombia for 6 months. safe travels :)

OK, I will let you know, but remind me after January 5th when I'll be back from Colombia. By now I can tell you that you supposed to have a lot of cash as prices of food in the park are much higher than in the city of Santa Marta due the difficult transportation to the park as there is no road to get there by a truck. They have no ATM machines and wireless Visa machine often do not work due the poor connection. In May 2010 a dinner for four people cost me about $60.00 ($115,000.00 Peso).

In relation to yellow fever, you asked. I remember that before the southern entrance to the park I saw a warning sign telling that yellow fever exists in the park and it is advisable to have a vaccination. And you know what? If you get yellow fever disease you have a little chance to survive. So, better if we get vaccinated.
