- USA stormed to victory and recorded a fourth star as France hosted the greatest-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Led by their two captains, Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe, USWNT cruised through the group stage, which they began with a tournament-record 13-0 defeat of Thailand. When tested by world-class opposition in the shape of Spain, France and England in the knockout rounds, the Americans found a way, scoring early in each match and withstanding everything their opponents had to throw at them.

James Blake maybe, or maybe it was them and their personalities that clicked with me, I don’t really know... but yeah, forever grateful for these players
James Blake clearly so many countries are lacking in investment which is why the teams like the US or England or France can beat other teams easily, but that’s something that will get better with time... and I guess it was maybe the fact that they were women. I come from a country in South America were football is everything, the only sport that matters basically, and I was so used to it that I was kinda desensitized. Seeing women play the sport though, seeing them be fierce and strong and ruthless caught my attention. Watching them get knocked down and get back up again, in a world that I had been taught belonged to men and with attitudes that weren’t supposed to be ours... it clicked. Then I started following some of them and I loved them, and now I really enjoy the sport overall, they were just the way to get me into it.
@James Blake Women's games have been robbed of investments throughout history and even now. I mean, if you impose a ban on women playing football for 50 years, that's 50 years of progress robbed from us. So more than the abilities, it's the biases that have stopped women's sports from progressing. That's what sexism does.

My wife, our daughter and I traveled to Lyon for a nine day trip. Attended both semi final games as well as the final. The city of Lyon is awesome, Groupama stadium was perfect. We had the best trip ever!!! Thank you FIFA & France....oh yes - THANK YOU USWNT!

The women’s game is really made me a huge soccer fan. As a young woman it’s so powerful and empowering to see women go out there and play a sport that for the longest time was male-dominated. I feel like the women’s game is growing and there’s still so much more to do. The US women’s national team is fighting for basic women’s rights like equal pay and equal playing conditions and equal treatment. I love that they’re fighting for this and it’s not just for women sports it’s for women in general.

We are very angry due to the events of the last two World Cups, Brazil and Russia, especially due to their selection of referees for the cup, referees who have been previously sanctioned, if this is the most important football competition, please select referees with a clean record. The Colombian soccer team was clearly stolen in both competitions, for example in Brazil 2014, the match between Brazil and the arbitrary Brazil was just for Colombia, an unusual robbery was clearly seen on the field of play. Fernandinho made around 6 fouls to James to stop him and with intention, in no fault they took yellow from Fernandinho. On the other hand, Yepes' goal was not out of place, it was a totally valid goal since it was clearly enabled, and finally the referee whistles an alleged foul by James, which I say supposedly because James stole the ball cleanly and after the fact They take yellow out of James, and guess what was produced by that SUPPOSED fault, that is, David Luis' free kick goal caused by a non-existent fault. If someone had to pass it was Colombia if it had not been for that goal that was not a fault and if Yepes' goal had been validated we would have won 2-1. At the 2018 World Cup in Russia they selected the worst referee in history. Proof of this were his bad decisions on the playing field, such as the foul that I whistle in favor of England in a stomp from Ashley Young to Wilmar Barrios! That is, the referee whistled the foul backwards. On the other hand, in the penalty play for England there was a previous foul by Harry Kane on Sánchez! So that fault should have been whistled first, but at that time the referee was not seeing why the VAR had to intervene. To make matters worse, the goal annulled Carlos Bacca if it was a goal, the referee annulled it for the presence of a second ball in the field of play, but the truth is that the ball never entered the field so the line judge stopped him with his hand !!!! According to the regulations, the play is only canceled if a second ball is on the field of play, but in this case the second ball was never INSIDE the field of play. It seems to me and to all Colombians a lack of respect that they always do this to us! If they are only going to let historical teams win because it suits them, then their cup no longer makes sense. YES TO FAIRPLAY! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR ATTENTION.

One of the finest World Cups ever. Only an idiot would say the quality is equal to the men's game, it is of course naturally slightly less. 2019 edition of USWNT goes down as Greatest USWNT Team ever

@@ericvansickle4305 The 1999ers were certainly a strong team, but barely edged China in penalty kicks in the final and had some trouble in other games. So I'd rate the 2019 team as the greatest USWNT ever.
The quality of opposition the 2019 team played was better. Apart from Thailand of course. In addition to which, the French were probably the slight favourites in that quarterfinal game seeing that they did have some recent success against the U.S. women in friendlies and in minor international tournaments like the She Believes Cup. Also, England are no pushovers; having finished third in 2015 and the Netherlands were the reigning European Champions.
P.S. The U.S. women hadn't beaten Sweden for a while at majors. They lost to them in the quarterfinals at the last Olympics, drew with them in 2015 and lost a group game to them in 2011.

I only made that assumption based on their recent success against the U.S. women coupled with the home support they had; in addition to which, the Lyon women's virtual stranglehold of the Women's Champions League. A lot of players on the French National Women's team also play for Lyon. That said, with the exception of the 2016 Olympic debacle against Sweden, the U.S. women typically win their quarterfinal matches at majors.

I know the tournament has been over for almost 2 years now but i have to say at least one thing about VAR: in France’s match vs. Nigeria, VAR awarded a penalty to France. Thats fine because VAR does that. HOWEVER, Wendy Renard MISSED her shot. It wasnt saved, she MISSED. Big keyword there. My issue with VAR here is that it allowed Renard to retake her pk because of goalkeeper encroachment. Im sorry but Renard missed so even though the goalkeeper encroached the pk shouldnt have been retaken at all. If the goalkeeper had saved it, it wouldve been a different story because it couldve been determined that the encroachment gave the gk an unfair advantage, BUT Renard put her shot WIDE of the post and therefore MISSED. Goalie encroachment had no effect on that at all. That was all Renard. France were given a gift there.
yep correct , should have been a goal kick . Only thing is the rule is a little vague and says if the offence has impacted the kicker it should be retaken . I guess the keeper closing down the angle and being way off the line could have an impact when taking a pen.
