It takes a lot of time and strength to do this job, but I like it, it's even therapeutic to me. And when we see them finished, smelling good, it's satisfying. Nice video. I've learned a lot.
Everytime after I wash and groom my Samoyed , i almost use up all my strength and need to get rest for a couple hours for recovery . It ‘s a not easy job .😪
My boss does the same thing, it's fine if you do it soft you can't check if it's completely brushed, so you're wrong we need to do that. I know this because I work as a groomer and we do this too. Yea the dog doesn't like it but it needs to be done.
I guess a bit but to be honest dog people tend not to mess around as much as pet people do. They tend to know that the dog isn't about to die so they just get on and get the job done.
Our puppy is almost 11 weeks old and we have him since 2 weeks. We haven't been able to do anything as good as what you are doing. You demo is excellent and what I was looking for. You explain the why very well. You brush with confidence and I suspect it makes a difference. We know how important brushing is and we observed some scratching, I like how you explained leaving it as it is is uncomfortable is it for the dog. We will try your tricks and go to the groomer to insure our Samoyed well being. Thanks you very much.
An update. I have been trying the brushing you suggest for the puppy and I am making progress: Little upward movements and making a line in the fur, and advance slowly. We work on the living room floor, someone helps me to keep her still ,gently. I am working just for a few minutes on her once a day, at the same time in the evening with lots of treats to reward her cooperation. Positive reinforcement is the way we try.On the second night of brushing , she was collaborating beyond anything I had hoped. I stopped after a few minutes when she started to move too much. I am just at the beginning but with patience, consistent time and habit, I believe we can get her used to the brushing. We hope that it will become for her a routine that she enjoys. We also tired with lots of exercise in the day to get her to relax before we try brushing, she need to spent her energy. Taking care of a Samoyed as first time owner is exhausting, it feels like we are taking care of a newborn, but we are overjoyed each time she makes progress , she has been with us for tree weeks now and we are establishing a good relationship. We are home full time and have outside help.
@@kellyo5521 Hello, We are not the best at grooming her, we give her treats to chew while another person brush her. We are never able to do a complete brushing. We had to give her a bath after a meeting with a skunk, thankfully we already had a special shampoo for that. So we rely on a professional groomer every 6 weeks.Their expertise is priceless. No, it's better to do that, instead of petting the dog with the brush, but don't brush too hard or dog will get brush burn. Plus Samoyed are double coated which is really thick hair so it's important to really brush.
For a full bath(shampoo) 5 times a year, and for this process once a month without washing. If the Samoyed gets mud on it or something rinse him or her in warm water☺️
I like to give mine a good brush once a week and then once every 2 months ill do the full brush and with a bath and brush if they're really dirty or when they are losing their undercoat.
If you have a high CFM dryer and regularly use that and brushing, sams can be washed 4 times a year only (depending on how much time they spend rolling around and hanging out in dirty backyards). The dryer is key.
Thank you for this tutorial video, just got my 2 month old girl Samoyed puppy two days ago and I have a 9 month old boy Japanese Akita, this video is helpful for double coated dogs. Watching this video I learned a lot, learned what I'm supposed to do and what not to do.
She is rough, but Samoyed fur is brushed in opposing direction so that it stands away from the skin. That's what makes the coat weatherproof and breathable for the dog.
Not with this kind of dog. If you only brush In one direction, as you would do with a short haired dog, all the hair close to the skin would never get combed. When the dog is washed and then not combed right down to the skin, by combing in several directions the hair doesnt dry completely, then it becomes itchy making them chew at it and they develop hot spots.
I really dislike poo on a dogs backside. I am going to cut the hair in that region, just like I did with my Collie before. What kind of shampoo do you use?
My Samoyed pup is 13 weeks. Any tips for grooming / clipping her backside? I have sheep shears (long story) but no idea how to use them on her derrière and I don’t want to mess up. But I need to stay on top of it before it gets matted. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 😊
HI, watch the video on how to line brush and comb, you don't want to shear a Samoyed, many times the coat will not grow back properly. Owing a coated breed it does require time and keeping up with the brushing, especially getting the loose under coat out before it gets matted and packed in. If you keep up on that it will not take long to do a though grooming. Set a day aside a week for brushing/combing the dog and stick to it. If the dog gets some poop on its bottom, takes some powder, baby powder is fine, on the poopy area and then take the slicker brush and just brush it off, works great. Good luck
I don’t own one yet but I’m leaning towards it. I own Pyrenees with similar coats so this video was very interesting and informative. I like to do a tail brush technique that uses my chest and belly and forearm to pin the tail and fur against me. Then I brush the tail out against the apron. Any hypoallergenic shampoo should be fine. No tears or oatmeal based. No dishwashing liquids. Can you order from Europe? A baby shampoo would work too, as long as it is clear with no dyes as the fur will pick that up. Any pin brush, any wide tooth dog comb will work. Just use what you got. Most important is how...

Thank you for the very informative and well done video. In 3 weeks we'll be bringing home our 8 week old female samoyed. She'll be my 4th Samoyed since 1989. The previous 3 have gone to groomers but I'm determined to groom this one myself as much as possible. The most important thing I learned in this video was to brush out before bathing. I've always given mine a bath first. Now I see that was the worst thing to do. I'll be starting grooming early on with this puppy so she gets used to it and isn't afraid to be groomed.

This is the MOST gentle way to groom one of these heavily furred dogs. Most videos out there on grooming these dogs are so misinformed. I get that people want to be gentle, so following these techniques leads to the least discomfort and longterm discomfort for the dog. A poorly groomed Sammy winds up with loads of fur still buried on them, the use of razer tools, grooming strips, surface brushing, and other poor techniques, leaves the dog full of fur, which ultimately gets matted, leads to overheating in the summer, and in the end the owner relegates the dog to a backyard as they tire of the fur all over their house.
Idk why so many people in the comments are saying she’s terrible and treating the puppy too roughly. She is one of the top breeders of this breed in America. Y’all really need to calm down because I’m sure she knows what she’s doing. otherwise, she wouldn’t be known as a top breeder...
She's focused on time most likely. I rather take my time. Give my Sammy a break then go back & finish. I prefer my Sammy to be comfortable & enjoy the experience.
Show Sheen makes the coat softer than it normally would be, the coat is supposed to stand off and be a bit course for the outer coat, the judge would be looking for correct texture. I will use it when I get ready to brush and comb out the dog but not after the bath.
If i got one i will name it Cloudy Get it? Bec it's like a cloud bec it all white 🤦♀️ Anyways i really want to get one i will get one SAP and yeah i love puppies and all animals 😁
You have to months of research and they are not the best dogs for beginners I know cause I have one. Plus they are very vocal dogs. Anyways do your research before getting any kind of pet.
@@cchir0n Pin brushes have very fine teeth and a lot of them, so they can grab more of the undercoat. Leaving undercoat in the dog can lead to a whole lot of discomfort for the dog. They can get heat stroke as they build up more and more fur. This is unfair to the dog. Use all the tools she lists...after 50 years of training and breeding Sams, she knows what she is doing.
It's fine the dog is fine, when you have matts on the dog and brushing it out, yea the dog will not like it but got to keep brushing, that's the proper and professional way of dog grooming.

A professional at work. Thank you for this
Thank you for the great video! Where can I get a grooming table like that?
Amazon maybe or ask a local groomer
Very informative, I really appreciated watching it.
Dying to get a samoyed puppy!! Praying it happens next year.
Thank you, im planning to groom my sammy. Somehow his hair is much shorter than the usual samoyed.
Where can I buy the haunch holder? Great idea!
Is ur hair made from the fur?
🙎
Thanks a lot from little Vega (Cabakas High Hope) in Denmark. She is a grand daughter of Polar mist kick up the party😊👍🏻
That male is gorgeous 😍
Idk why so many people in the comments are saying she’s terrible and treating the puppy too roughly. She is one of the top breeders of this breed in America. Y’all really need to calm down because I’m sure she knows what she’s doing. otherwise, she wouldn’t be known as a top breeder...
I learned a lot from your video thanks so much. What are the two shampoo products you're using?
She is way too rough, wtf
She's focused on time most likely. I rather take my time. Give my Sammy a break then go back & finish. I prefer my Sammy to be comfortable & enjoy the experience.
Totally !!!!! Way too rough !
She has to get the knots out and stuff so she has to go a little rough the puppy’s fine
DONT HURT THE POOR BOYE
She's not hurting the dog.
He is beautiful 😍😍😍
This is really wonderful! Thank you! Why wouldn't you use the show sheen for a show? Do they want it a bit coarser?
It makes the coat too soft for the show ring.
Show Sheen makes the coat softer than it normally would be, the coat is supposed to stand off and be a bit course for the outer coat, the judge would be looking for correct texture. I will use it when I get ready to brush and comb out the dog but not after the bath.
If i got one i will name it Cloudy
Get it? Bec it's like a cloud bec it all white 🤦♀️
Anyways i really want to get one i will get one SAP and yeah i love puppies and all animals 😁
You have to months of research and they are not the best dogs for beginners I know cause I have one. Plus they are very vocal dogs. Anyways do your research before getting any kind of pet.
Thank you for doing this video. I’d love to see how you trim the feet and hawks please. 🐾
gorgeous big boy :-) thank you for sharing
So first we get the NOOSE
I dont think this is brushing more like tearing their coat
😂😂actually samoyeds are double coated, this is the reason behind looking like tearing.
@@truthseeker550 yea and the crying sounds are just for effect 🙂
I only use a comb. I think the other brushes just harm their undercoat
I wished you showed how you blowing his hair. Thats why im here. But over all I’ve learned something.
ask some one to comb your hairy by using the same strength that you do to the puppy 😡
The dog is fine but because shes a puppy shes just a little nervous and fidgety when grooming. Would you rather it be matted and suffering?
It's fine the dog is fine, when you have matts on the dog and brushing it out, yea the dog will not like it but got to keep brushing, that's the proper and professional way of dog grooming.
Omg I got two of my samoyeds from polar mist
step 1. pet the fuck out of it
step 2. contain yourself
step 3. give in and become a lazy owner and pet it again
hi, you having a pet shop for Earning? for sure their not your dogs.. please be gentle to them please .
Great video
To much Word. But beautiful dog
Great video, lynette! I now know how to brush Sage properly (eventhough he dislike getting brushed)
She didn't brush the dog correctly. All dogs should be brushed from the head down the the tail.
Excellent information thank you so much.
Ouch!
Poor dogs, pure metal and tied in the genital area😳
A bit to rough
Really rough
할머니가 개털을 거의 쥐어뜯네 ㄷㄷ
Thank you for this amazing and informative video 😂
Tė babę takimi szczotkami drapać po ciele i po łbie przez 4 godziny przywiązaną do stołu. Ale by była szczęśliwa...
After all, it is so exhaustive... Your arms must be painful.
Oh! So many groomers don’t know how to groom a Sammy. They want to groom them like a chow. Oy! The worst! So sad to see them trim their tails and legs.
I bet people will think your about to butcher it LMAO
Great video!!! Thank You
