Horace Kephart has been an inspiration since I first read his book some 20 years ago. To have a replica of his knife is a dream come true. Thank You so much Ethan Becker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I utterly adore this knife. I take it backpacking, camping, hunting & fishing. delicate enough to carve, sturdy enough to batton if necessary, and can even fillet when pressed. Forget rugged looks, this is utilitarian to its core
This was just delivered this afternoon. Really great knife. It’s heavier then it looks, not too heavy but solid. Razor sharp out out of the box and an excellent sheath too. Glad I bought it. It’s like holding a piece of history in your hand.
Love it! Super excited and cannot wait! Thanks for posting this. I've always thought that if more US companies would bring out things like this, they'd be surprised at how well recieved they'd be by the public. -Jim
A truly unique and amazing knife, thank you Ethan Becker for making this treasure come to life!! Iam a huge fan of the Ka Bar Becker line and now i can't wait to add this precious to my collection! ps: the hole video has that henomenal tone to it...its just perfect! Make more videos with Mr Becker! Oh and iam ordering the BK62 right now!!!
I had an Kephart made for me once to original spec, only the maker made it with modern materials (micarta scales & a kydex sheath). Still, the blade profile, shape & the shape of the handle were dead on O.G. and it felt great. I agree a hundred percent that the flat shape of the handle is much better for maneuvering & controlling the blade through work. One day I'll own one of Ethan's reproductions. I'm so glad an original Kephart fell in his hands and I for one am grateful to see someone hold true to the original design.
I got mine a couple of weeks ago love the design but the assembly was a bit shoddy two handle screws were loose and when I nipped them up the screws were sticking up proud of the handle it took a Little work to shorten the screws and make a nice job of it but now I am happy with it.
Just got one. I LOVE this knife! The walnut handle fits my hand perfectly. Wonderfully balanced. It is a knife that you WANT to use. My being a kydex sort of guy, I totally love the leather sheath it comes with. No kydex for this baby. I totally understand why Ethan is excited about it. I now have it as my primary camp knife. Totally worth the price. All I can say is....Get This Knife!
Just got mine today. After handling it for an afternoon I had to order a second one to keep in pristine condition. I plan to put the one I got today to constant good use.
I just ordered 1 over the Bark River Kephart. Ill probably get both but I chose this for its its historic accuracy and the ability to create sparks from the blade. I love the BR Kephart in CPM3V though. That one will come later
A lot of producers are trying to make catchy patterns. There is nothing like a good utilitarian blade shape. Nessmuk knew this as well. I own a fine copy of a nessmuk pattern and it functions well. My only other desire would be to try a yakut knife. I own puukkos and I love them. Utilitarian.
Try searching Camping and Woodcraft by Horace Kephart. I'm not exactly sure of the title of the book that Ethan has (I can't read the first part), but that might get you close. The copy that I had found a few years back is bound in a green hardcover and is titled with that title.
Everyone says this is the most accurate version of the Kephart and such. And I get that he found an “original,” but if you read Kepharts book, he lays out the dimensions of the knife pretty clearly. One thing being the blade is no longer than 5 inches, and another is the width being no more than an inch. But still, this is a nice knife, and I still bought one.
The BK62 is going to be a full production knife in the regular KA-BAR lineup. Full production should be out in January 2019, but many dealers will have this available for sale in the next week.
I saw one up here in Western Canada at a outdoor camping place and it was freaking $320 bucks. Good Lord. When I can have a Buck 119 at $120. In both cases I'm talking about Canadian dollars of course.

It’s just a Green River knife, which was just a trade knife originally made and shipped from Sheffield in England, later made by Russell in Mass from English steel.
I think the Mora Garberg is one of the Best Bushcraft knives ever made. That being said: Does this knife have a 90 degree spine for striking a Ferro Rod? And Why is it about $50 dollars more than a Mora Garberg? --- I did purchase this Ka-Bar Kephart Knife, I’m waiting to receive it.
No it doesn't have a 90 degree spine. It's got kind of a relief edge that runs up both sides of the spine to the hilt. It does come with three uncommon things that most beckers don't come with. A tumble finish, walnut scales, and a leather sheath made in America. Whether that justifies the price or not well that's up to the individual. Just got mine. Handle scales are a little off but it's actually kind of impressive once you put it to use. atb Sean

The knife makers who did the blade for Kephart must have made more knives for other people as well.......I'm sure there are other blades lost out there.....not used by Kephart....but made for other people at the time Kephart was still walking .....they were only a few dollars.... but most knives of that period were actually used......they were a tool.....and tools like everything wear down with time and use......finding one in that condition that he has there ......would be next to imposible.....who knows.....maybe someone will find one in an old barn or attic .......if they know what they have......
I personally didn't like the handle of Becker series because it is so slippy in our hand. Therefore, a lot of people have to fix the handle by changing its figure or wrapping bandages or tapes so on. However, this knife must be the exception and it will not care the size of our hands and fit nicely. I should make a purchase of it...
The ergonomics of the Becker handles are spot on and the texture can be an easy and free fix. As for the kephart I would spend an extra forty bucks and get the bark river version. 4v steel, micarta handles, convexed....
