She also saw it as less toxic than what her parents got into. She eventually tried LSD and shrooms and thus began her descent into occasionally very angry not-quite-hippy. Her constant drug use and peace/love attitude doesnt mask her underlying rage and resentment well, but it works well enough that she keeps doing it.
