exactly. Pineapple upside down cake has never disappeared either, to my knowledge. Almost every cooking show has featured it in the last couple of years.

Angel food cakes are available in most supermarkets. They use egg whites whipped into stiff peaks rather than flour and chemical leavening for most of their volume and structure, which has long endeared them to people on reduced carb diets. Angel Food cake with fresh fruit and whipped cream sweetened w. a non nutritive sweetener is one of the few cakes diabetics can enjoy.
Also, the small amount of flour called for make the Angel Food cake easy to adapt to gluten free baking while retaining the same texture.

In my city, a gentleman opened a pie shop, specializing in cream pies. I mentioned to him to sell the pie fillings on their own as puddings. They are now his best seller.

I’ve introduced my teenage grandson’s to banana pudding..they absolutely LOVE it!! I’ve made peach cobbler several times, along with pineapple-upside down cake in the last several years. I’ve also seen coconut cream pie for sale at a couple restaurants & especially in the summer months, Starbucks usually sells lemon bars.

It's Bananas Foster, not Fosters. Molds, not models. Not the seventies, the thirties, and the Great Depression. Lemon Bars are still around. Christmas. Shoo-fly pie was a Pennsylvania Dutch treat. Cherry Winks were made with cornflakes. Baked apples were better with oatmeal

If you think about it many of these faded mostly because we no longer have the standard of one parent being a full time at home person. Back when that was common onè person had hours every day to dedicate to cleaning and cooking with looking after kids as a bonus.

One BIG reason fruit desserts are gone is due to the horrible fruit they pass off in grocery stores. I cant remember the last time a had a good piece of fruit of any kind. It's been so doctored, it doesn't resemble the original.... gotta find original seeds and grow our own.

    • @michaelmccarthy4077
      @michaelmccarthy4077 3 місяці тому +2

um, let me count the number of fruits not produced through selective breeding. Oh, ZERO. Bananas aren't produced from seed, they're all clones, they always have been. Same with cherries, peaches, apples, plums, nectarines, mangoes, pineapple, etc. The only fruits I can think of that you can get seed and grow your own of are melons and some berries. But hey, go ahead and get some heirloom apples and plant the seeds, in 8 years when they fruit tell me how many are edible.
Your issue with grocery store fruit has to do with picking and distribution practices. Obviously you have never heard of a "u pick" farm.

    • @vlrissolo
      @vlrissolo 3 місяці тому

@michaelmccarthy4077 wow, you repeat my statement, but reword it and act as though I don't know what I'm talking about. You need to do a bit more research. There are plenty of heirloom seeds. You just need to know how to get them. My best friends have a farm and grow their own fruits, but as I stated, the grocery store fruits are not even similar to what they used to be... follow Vandana Shiva. She is doing wonderful work to save seeds and SO much more... wth are you so nasty anyway? Geez, and you simply reiterated what I said... go away.

Many of these my mom made in the 70s and the things she wouldn't, I learned how to make myself - often from the Betty Crocker cookbooks! Although the best version of lemon squares I ever found was on the box of the Lady Lee version of Bisquick! I've made baked Alaska a couple of times, but only did the Kirsch coated sugar cubes lit for someone's birthday! Things today have to be all about "trends" like making a big deal about cupcakes over actual cake! Biscotti, for example was a Christmas only cookie my mom made, but they're everywhere now!

x 0:13 Banana Fosters - Kurt Cobain of Nirvana is a huge fan of that (I never heard of that before hearing he was a big fan).
o I am always looking for awesome banana dishes...my faternity in college at Doane Unviersity was Alpha Pie Epsilon (APE) and we are known as Apes.
x Spumoni Baked Alaskas - Mint chocolate Chip ice cream is my favorite!
o That dessert looks fantastic...though the name doesn't fit it at all.
x Lemon Chiffon Pie - Looks amazing, lemon Pie is one of my favorites!
x Cherry Angel Food Cakes - I really like the presentation of cherries on the top of cakes!
x Country Apple Dumplings - That is a classic for those living out in the country!
o When I lived on the countryside of Midvale (Nebraska) our country neighbors would make things like that!
x Peach Cobbler - Would be perfect for a Cobbler (A person who makes or mends shoes - Collins Dictionary).
o Academy Award Winner Daniel Day-Lewis is a cobbler for a hobby.
x Fruit Cocktail Gelatin Models - That looks fantastic!
o Jell-O molds have fallen out of favorite because of the creative license makers have exercised to idiotic effects (Seriously...what were they thinking?)
o Jell-O molds with strange things like hamburger, meats, and vegetables are one of the most mocked foods on the internet.
o Jell-O Molds would make a comeback if people simply found a great recipe and stuck with it until the tradition was established.
x Pineapple Cheese Casseroles - For whatever reason, in Nebraska tropical food is distinctively not popular.
o I really like pineapple...but mostly have to eat it by myself because others would rather have a different fruit.
x Banana Pudding - Really like that, looks like one to add to the banana foods list!
o Actually watched a Bananarama music video last night "Love in the First Degree"!
x Lemon Bars - Love lemon bars!
o Even used to buy the Krusteaz Meyer Lemon Bars mix!
x Pineapple Upside Down Cake - I made that for a 4-H presentation when I was in elementary school!
    o It's fantastic!
x Cranberry Stuffed Apples - That looks ideal as a Thanksgiving dessert!

Housewives of the 70s are now your grandma? One was a house wife in WW1 and the other during the Great Depression. I suppose these things being mostly unheard of in the 21st century but that's their own fault. They have the internet. Everyone before that had to buy cookbooks, magazines or go to libraries. It should be noted that the last one is showing two recipes. Cranberry Stuffed Apples as well Cranberry Apple stuffing. Two seperate dishes. Could you combine them? That's for someone else to try.

These UA-cam Channels that exist for profit only are getting lazy! Creating Topics without even a little research about the topic? So many false statements 😮 some deserts must have been popular in smaller countries that had American Versions of food never made in the USA. He claims some are well known but are definitely not. I've seen some strange foods in other countries like Thailand that never existed in America.
