The lyrics aren't the issue. The fact that it's not even in Europe is the issue.
Australia is also not located in Europe, but is represented in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Is it because geographical or cultural reasons?
Eurovision has opened its contest up to non-Europeans for years. Australia was the first BIG one, and in general Eurovision has stated that other countries are welcome to participate so long as they are able to adhere to the very strict requirements to become a participant. It's why any country can vote now.
Israel has been participating for more than 50 years already and ignorant people still ask the same thing
