The zip tie mod has its origins going way back in time to carbureted engines - that one of the first tuning "tricks" was simply to verify that wide open throttle was really 100% open. A surprising number of cars with older rod or cable throttles were poorly adjusted or improperly assembled or had something restricting the accelerator pedal travel. Once fixed it was the closest thing to free horsepower!
Zip ties will work, but I used a 3way wire splitter connector that I clamped onto the cable. Works just as good n made it to having absolutely no slack.
I remember I did this to my mustangs 20 years ago lol. I’m old. But it helps so much. What it does it opens the butterfly quicker and I notice on my old 2000 gt that it finally was able to open that butterfly fully open at full throttle.
Thanks for the content! I’ve watched a bunch of your videos and love them! Bought my first panther 2 months ago (99 LTC) and previous owners didn’t care how it looked, engine bay was filllllthy, wipers didn’t work etc. been working on it bit by bit every weekend. Looks and feels like a different car and love it.
I played with this today on my 03. Super worth! But I ended up finding some spare copper ac line, cut a slit and flared one end. I slipped it over after some measuring made sure it was right and crimped it. Permanent, stiff, taught. Took about 5 minutes instead of the 30 seconds but zip ties give and wear too much. It I want to remove my mod though, I need to delicately peel/cut the little copper tube.
I don’t think I understand… are you just removing slack from the cable? Is there any possibility that the cable has stretched over the last 300,000 miles? Is it not adjustable at the throttle?
I did this with my 2000 Ranger 2.5L, and it made a night and day difference! I now have better acceleration, and more passing power. And I only have to tip toe the throttle to cruise at 60 now, when before, I had to keep it at halfway throttle.
Add a bit glue and it's gonna stay strong enough it won't slip out kinda permanent 🤣. I'm making a mod video over on odysse for obs chevy mods so I'll try it. At my own risk!🤣👌

It seems that it would be better to put the zip tie behind the plastic piece with the slot. Then the grommet would sit tightly against the slotted hole.
I remember the 80s era Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Scirocco ...they had a big plastic button on the bottom of the floorboard to prevent you from pushing the accelerator pedal all the way down. you simply took a hacksaw and cut it off and then you had a lot more horsepower available.
I have a better way to adjust the throttle cable from the throttle body. It adds a throttle cable adjuster to the throttle using only an M6 1.0 at 40 MM long bolt, 3 nuts, and 4 washers (all preferably stainless). Mounted using the hole for the bolt that holds the throttle cable against a bracket that holds it in place. Plus an extra spring for the throttle return.
I have the same Vic same color it’s a 09 I’ve been looking for the lather seat I have the police seat I’m not to much a fan of it do you mind sharing where you get your seats from
Lol get down there and look at the pedal, then pull the pedal opposite the way your foot will push it. You’ll notice slack. Then you’ll see the distance between where it sits and when you’re pulling it. While pulling it or holding the pedal up ( away from the floor ). Slip a few or one big zip tie on there to take away that slack. You’ll notice the pedal sitting up much higher then before. Then test. And enjoy smiles per gallon :)!
