Wow !! When I was a very young kid I had nightmares about driving on a road that was covered in water.....just like this!!! And here it is !!!! I never thought roads like this existed, only in my nightmares....lol. Great clip....brave / crazy driver...awesome xxx
Nothing special there, I drive commercially in a coastal area that gets lots of tidal flooding. All the backroads that flood a lot have marker poles so you can see the edges and drive even with a foot or two of salt water on them. The real issue is when a bad storm brews up and you have waves breaking across one of the causeways. THAT is fun trying to drive with two or three foot waves smacking the side of your box truck without getting pushed off the far side into the bay.
@@Massmommamess Since watching this clip and reliving my childhood nightmares , I've had several crappy dreams involving this scenario.....lol.....not fun :)
In St Andrew's, New Brunswick, Canada there is a place called Minister's Island. It's a beautiful historic site. It is only accessible at low tide. There is no real road. We drive across a gravel sand bar, so it's actually the ocean floor. The Bay of Fundy has the world's highest tides, and they come in quick. Lots of tourists get stranded on the island during high tide. They don't realize how quickly the tide comes in.
Would have been totally apropos for the driver to have dropped into that hole in the pavement where the roadway had ceased to exist - Darwin in action! Plus, unless they washed the car down thoroughly with fresh water - including UPWARDS into the undercarriage - the salt damage is going to destroy the vehicle from the inside out.
@@elemar5 Pavement in the U.S. is ANY hard surface - whether concrete or asphalt - for either a roadway or a pedestrian walkway. The term is used to differentiate between solid, hard surfaces, and tracks (whether walking trails or roadways) that are just across bare dirt or gravel.
This looks easy from the drones vantage point but being on the road with all that water on both sides and no perfect visual on the road would be a daunting experiance. The driver maintained a steady slow speed, any faster would have resulted in water going into engine bay, the air filter sucking in water and stopping the motor.
People ACTUALLY die doing this in other places. Water too high. Car dies mid crossing. No way out. It's actually pretty harrowing. (This was pretty vanilla, but whatever...)
Christ man,I think about every person in Northumberland av done that drive whilst the tides racing in,they wasent much water to be honest, nice scenery as usual
I holidayed here every summer from about the age of 6 to 11 and we used to love watching the tide come in (not gradually but at walking pace). They have a couple of cabins on stilts to climb into if, like this car, you try and make it but fail. Being stuck in that water is no joke (it’s cold in high summer and frigid the rest of the year).
Yes around 793 I think and the monks escaped with the remains of St Cuthbert and after a lot of moving around settled in Durham and built a cathedral where Cuthbert lies to this day
It's about time they put automatic barriers on the causeway that come down when there is water on the causeway to stop idiots like that. The tide moves *VERY* fast and if there is water on the causeway it is utterly idiotic to attempt a crossing.
Why put up barriers? How would they know when to operate as the speed and height of the tide is not the same each time. Locals know the road and we followed a locals off over an hour before the website gave the clear time. This was on a receding tide and was lower with off shore winds. Also barriers could trap cars as well
BMW drivers are just better than normal people. Rules do not apply, they can do whatever they like because they are winners. Audi drivers are even worse.

Obviously very confident about bmw rust protection.

The fact he didn't suggests it was someone local or very familiar with it.
He wasn't on a pavement, he was on a road. A pavement in the UK is a walkway for pedestrians.

I know this. Though a pavement usually means a paved area, not tarmac or asphalt.
Just pointing out how wrong it sounds.@@EducatedSkeptic
Eeek, did you give it a good spray underneath with fresh water soon after?
Not every idiot makes it to the other side you know.

If you don't go too fast, you can make it.

That’s the place where the first Viking raid took place in the UK, right?
Yes..well the first recorded.
(The area wouldnt be known as the United Kingdom of course...more likely the Kingdom of Northumbria)
They didn't invade on BMW's though, probably Volvo's.

Agreed. that looked pretty reckless to me.
let nature take it's course, get him out of the gene pool
I would of thought that it would be pretty obvious that there would be water across the causeway, without having to put barriers across...
