I agree completely! I do appreciate the way this video describes the characters as encapsulating the entire enneagram, but for me Mirabel is a 4! She is longing to have something great like everyone around her, searching for who she is and what she has to offer, and the way she brings the family together is by seeing the individual beneath the gift - she sees who they truly are, which is so 4!
A few have said that and I think that's why it's important to understand why the enneagram is more about MOTIVATION than MANIFESTATION. Its more about why someone does something than what they do. I came here specifically looking for Luisa because I identify with her more than any other character. However I am a type two. Her statement "I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service" aligns with my central fear of being unworthy of love if I am not a helper to everyone and anyone. I'm a newbie to the enneagram so I could be way off base.... But I just felt so "seen" by Luisa's character and song. Even at the end when she finally is vulnerable and opens up, she is able to relax and allow someone else to care for her. I know that in times of stress 2s take on the characteristics of 8s... So maybe I'm just confused as to which way this arrow is going. Loved your video, this movie, and the discussion.
I reccomend you to watch Abbey Howe's video in that topic. She doesn't focus on all the characters, but I found her interpretations more precise. And the most important thing is to listen to yourself. If you think this song describes you then it's probably right.:-)
I thought it was a 2 song at first also, until my husband (8) listened to it and was basically crying. That feeling of being unable to show vulnerability is definitely an 8 thing. But 2's who are stressed move to 8, so a 2 who is living in stress or unhealth can feel & act a lot like an 8.
I still think she's an 8. her motivation is strength and protection. I'm a 9w8 and related to her as well. I also think that ANYONE (regardless of number) who has a lot of responsibility will relate to her.
As a nine, I see so much of myself in Bruno, I believe him to be a nine. The self-doubt, the leaving because you fee like a burden, the recession into six when unhealthy, the longing to feel like you matter to literally anyone while also being paradoxically afraid to be seen by others.
I especially like this system, because the whole story of Mirabel revolves around the journey of Type 9: Mirabel fears that she will eventually become an outcast like Bruno, and she comes very close to this when Abuela says her to stop doing whatever she does. She is stressed and told to stay in the shadows, which almost makes her turn into a Type 6. Then, at the end of the movie she shows growth, and becomes the connecting force of the whole family, very similarly to Abuela, a Type 3.
5 are more knowledge seeking preparation guys. If Bruno would have a library in his basement or tendence for analysis (not a gift of seeing the future) I would agree, but actually he is peaceful, gentle 9 with afraid of confrontation and peace-seeking attitude.
Watch the animated movie called “9”. Istg each of the characters have a number from 1-9 for their names and each number corresponds to their respective enneagram types. (For example, the character named “1” acts like a enneagram 1 and the character named “9” acts like a enneagram 9)
Luisa is definitely an 8. Being 8 is not about being conformational or intimidating. It is about the excessive need for and stress regarding control. They take lead even when no one else will. Her goal is not to be helpful but useful. They is a difference.
Oh, and being in control is not what drives us. It’s letting our guard down and showing weakness or vulnerability. An 8 wing 9 is not a control freak. We do control our emotions though.
@@Tina-jd2ie This 8 feels in control when she's serving. I think it's interesting as an 8 how committed you seem from your comments to being misunderstood. I agree that 8s are often misunderstood, but your saying "an 8 would never..." shows me you don't understand the complexity of the systems or humans and maybe aren't allowing it in yourself. It would be interesting to turn inward and ask yourself: under what circumstances you COULD I be willing to be vulnerable? What would I need in order to be more able to share my feelings? That's what this work is ultimately about, and I wish for you the strength to allow yourself some vulnerability.
I'm not sure I see Luisa as an 8. She may be strong, but she's not domineering/intimidating/confrontational. And her basic fear doesn't seem to be of being 'controlled by others' and the need to protect herself. She seems to want to serve others (as heard from her song) which resembles more type 2 behavior. But I like your take on Mirabel being a 9 (as well as all the other types!). I initially saw her as a 4, but your interpretation of her song makes a lot of sense.
The song is her breaking into her two. What most non-experts get wrong is they focus on the trait or behavior instead of what is driving the behavior. I've had several 8 clients write me and say that song is exactly how they feel and they even name that line. She is breaking into her vulnerability and health with the two. "She has a rough indestructible surface." That whole song shows you what eights feel and don't say out loud.
Well l.think she a type 8w9 it make sense because when an 8 is stressed they tend to exhibit type 2 traits of l have to be of service so l will use my strength to help around the town if l loose it l will not be loved anymore so she does more work but forget to take a rest.
@@aTimeToBe_ When the 2-5-8 connection is happening integration is headed in the right direction. She is releasing the armor and embracing vulnerability so yes, she is headed to toward integration.
Ah, since the premise of the movie seems to be about teaching generations that what makes you important to family shouldn't be about what you DO for the family, it makes sense that the 3 main sisters are in the gut triad. Also, if we're defining the enneagram types as being based on what we're taught about ourselves in our childhood, I would not be surprised if the enneagram was used to define the characters and the theme of the movie. Great video!
I’m only at the Bruno part and I’m just thinking... Bruno has a gift, he sees bad, good, whatever WILL happen because of the gift. He doesn’t interpret it, it is what it is. This is why I don’t see him as a 6, but as a 9, who tries not to bother others, but wants to be close still. It’s a sacrifice he is making for the sake of his family, and he is in “peace” with that. He has a gift he cannot change and would rather go out of their life so they won’t suffer anymore and won’t be mad, than insist that what he sees is ACTUALLY the truth
As a 9w1 INFJ, I've had a lot of experiences of when I figure something out with my intuition and because so many times people dismiss me as "the quiet kid" or I'm "looking too deep into things" so just like Bruno I retreat into my cave to not disrupt everything. I've had countless relationship struggles because something sticks out as odd, I look into it, and I feel embarrassed with rocking the boat. It honestly hurt me watching the movie the first time because every Bruno was on screen I saw myself and I felt truly seen when Bruno was explaining why he ran away when he saw the vision of Mirabel and he said "I knew exactly what they'd think because I'm Bruno and everybody assumes the worst."
@@brambojr4298 I’m so sorry you feel this way. I cried when Bruno explained why he ran away, it’s so emotional and I just saw a child that was push away and misjudged enough times for him to think this is the right way. No one should feel this way. You are not too much, you don’t stand in the way of others and what you think/feel/say is so important. If you ever doubt it, try to see yourself as one of your best friends. When it hurts it’s good, it means the healing process has a place to start ^^ I’m sending you virtual hugs
Luisa as an 8, Isabella as a 1 and Mirabel as a 9 were my initial thoughts as well, but I also see how Luisa could be a 2, Isabella a 3, and Mirabel a 6. But I'm a 9, so.....of course I can see both arguments, and it leaves me unsure what I myself think....
Such a cool video, thanks!! I agree with everything you said, except for 2 choaracters: Camilo and Antonio. Like you say, Antonio's very young and not a fully developed character - it's there basically to offer a mirror of Mirabel's biggest moment of disappointment. I'd keep Antonio out of the equation but bring Abuela Alma instead. Camilo feels like a 7 because he's all about the fun, he shape-shifts to entertain others and amuse himself in a playful way, not to gain status like a 3 would do. Also interesting that when they lose their powers (and the rigid roles that came with them), we see the only stance of Camilo's negativity in his honest complain about how bad their situation is - a point of growth for a 7! And then, Abuela Alma is the 3, concerned with status, projecting appearances, working hard, natural leader... Her direction of integration is the loyalty of the healthy 6, something she embraces in the climax.
I think you should draw a line between what Encanto Characters are inside and how they act in the outside under the pressures of Abuela's expectations.
I have to say your video explaining the movie made the movie SO MUCH better to me! I actually watched it when I saw your video show up on social media so I could watch YOUR video. Thank you for this!
I actually now think Mirabel is a type 5, and she learns to open her heart and engage with others to bridge divides and help heal the family! I don't think she is a 9, but that Dolores is a 9 - I think you have these two switched round
I might be too superficial with this but I had a 2 feeling from Mirabel! Her "gift" ends up being helping other people to find themselves, which is nearly the basic definition of a two. Though I see that she doesn't feel like she must help others to be worthy, which is also a strong characteristic of twos, so it's probably just me, as a two, relating to her 😂
2s are looking for personal worth from helping others, so while healthy 2s can definitely support people in finding themselves, that's not the core motivation. It's nice to see your capacity for that though!
@@carynberley434 ohh I see, makes total sense. The enneagram is soo facinating! Btw have you ever listened to the Sleeping At Last songs about the enneagram? They connect really well with their corresponding type!
ngl, I disagree with a lot of these. I would say: 1- Abuela Alma (unlike Isabella, she feels the need to act like the family is perfectly together to *keep* the family together. She would do *anything* to protect her home, her family, and her family's dignity.) 2- Luisa/Mirabel (Luisa: her song is all about how she feels the weight to do everything and be anything for everybody- but herself. We see at the end of the film how people help her lift things and she actually gets to take some time for herself. This is a 2 going into 4, not an 8 going into 2. Mirabel: for Mirabel, she feels very similar to Luisa. Everything she does, she does for the family. She tries to be open about her true feelings and her parents even tell her, "you have nothing to prove." Mirabel had been told she was enough- at least by her parents- but she had to come to that conclusion herself.) 3- Isabella (she is perfect out of need for herself, not for the family. She *says* it's for the family but it's because she feels the family needs to see her as perfect. I'm a type 3 so I get it ^^) 4- Pepa (agreed- it's pretty obvious ^^) 5- Dolores (agreed)/possibly Bruno as well 6- Augustin/Bruno? (Augustin is a great example of a 6. He is extremely concerned for his family. He wants to make sure that Mirabel is confident and obviously fusses over it- in a loving way tho. Ironically, he has allergies too.) 7- Camilo (he is a straight 7. He shapeshifts because he thinks it's fun. Even in serious moments, he often shapeshifts because fun is a coping mechanism.) 8- I don't see any 8s here. 9- Felix (He and the Pepa are the perfect examples of a 4 and 9 relationship. He is a pretty healthy 9 too. He is a peaceful guy, he soothes Pepa without discrediting her emotions and is also healthy in that he feels he can be himself, instead of always fretting about keeping the peace. Pepa seems to help him be more open about who he really is and how he feels. The way they dance together, the way he helps Pepa calm down, and even the way he tells Camilo to stop shifting and be respectful all give me big 9 vibes.) I'm not sure about Antonio (maybe a 2) and am in debate whether Bruno is a 5 or a 6. Thoughts?
Alot of these are good points. I like your perspective. I've struggled with Bruno as well. Some also will type him as a 9. I guess I could see 6 as well. I lean more towards 5, because of his demeanor when Mirabel finds him in the wall. He lived there 10 YEARS and not only is he still in pretty sound mind, he seems rather comfortable living in there. When she offers to get him out of the wall, his response is "meh." LOL I dunno, I don't think a six could handle that much isolation for so long. They're not one of the Withdrawn types - they're highly anxious and their paranoia can become crippling if they don't have someone to around to support them because they become highly insecure when they're alone.
I'm a 9. Mirabel is TOTALLY a 9. Every other type wants her to be their type, but she's completely 9 for all the reasons he mentioned, especially the 9's work of seeing the totality and celebrating everyone's gifts, and the 9s ability to cut through the BS of all the other types but her own.
Not that I needed any more convincing, but this video has hands-down convinced me that I need to buy this movie. Just so I can study it unhindered by subscriptions/rentals. 😆
When l.was watching it l was like wow as a type 9 l felt seen as the main character because type 9 are so good at playing the supporting cast in everyone's story but forgetting they are the main character in their life so as she helped others in the end they pointed it out how if it was not for her all of this would have been worse than we thought so thank you for just being yourself 🥰
I lean toward and SO1. All about the community and doing things right and earning the miracle. Disconnected from grace until the end... which is her redemption.
The rigidity, stoic sense of control, and feeling they have to "earn the miracle that found us" makes me lean toward the one... as well as the tension between Mirabel and her sister mirrored between her and her grandmother makes me lean toward type 1. but I'm not certain.
I've rewatched the movie more times than I can count and I can't see Abuela as anything but a 6 because of how much she clings to her people (family) and doesn't want to lose her security (the new home)
How is Mirabel not a 3? She is craving success and wanting to be appreciated and fears being worthless in the eyes of her family. And by a marginal extent - her community as seen with the 3 kids. She's clearly pained by the gift basket jerk but doesn't want to be viewed as pitiful or being affected by it. I'd say she's almost the definition of a 3w2 manifesting a lot of Aggressive 9 behavior by trying to be a literal peacemaker for her family. Even in her "I want" song, she's willing to take any power at all. Not focused on her own unique ability, only the obsession to have one to "make her family proud." The entire movie is about Mirabel realizing that she doesn't need to be magical to be successful in the eyes of her family. It actually is AFTER she takes charge and begins acting like a healthy 3 that the family begins to "see" her worth. She isn't a 9 because she sings about her family in the opening, she intentionally bolsters them and her connection to them to dodge the question of her own magic/success. If she was a 9, she'd likely already know how her sisters and Bruno feel. She wouldn't have scenes of her trying to stand out or prove herself.
I wondered whether Mirabel was a 1. I started crying during the Family Madrigal song when the kids are chanting 'what about Mirabel' - I think it made me feel seen. And maybe I have mistyped and am actually a 9, or maybe this was my 9 wing coming through as a 1. Or perhaps, as some of you are saying, I have been a 1 going to 4 in stress, and this was me realising. I think it's the 9 thing though
I've seen it a few more times with my daughter and I stand by this breakdown. Many people who aren't experts get it wrong because they focus on manifestation over motivation. Traits over what is driving. Bruno is 100% a 6! But like I said, they show you the behind the scenes of certain characters a lot more than others.
I disagree with everything but Delores. The enneagram has different interpretations. And basing type on external responses instead of internal core fears and desires…. Just isn’t the way I interpret the enneagram.
ya, I feel ya. a lot of the 9s who aren't ready to accept that they are great AND are 9s, mistype as 4s, leaving the 9s who ARE ready to type as 9s with crappy stereotypes. but seriously 9s are my favorite. they're great 🥺
@@rianczer yes! I didn’t want to accept that I was a 9 because “ 9s sleep to their emotions, self awareness etc” I felt more like an 8, 3 or 5 but the more I realized I am a 9 trying to forget my core. 😅 All numbers are great ❤️😊
I disagree. Types 1 are perfectionists, Isabela is not perfectionist, Abuela is, Isabela just wants to make her happy. If anything she is either a type 3 (love and validation come from archievements) or a type 9, considering how she avoids conflict with Abuela at all costs. She was going to marry a boy she doesn't like Just to please Abuela! For the same reason, I don't think Mirabel is a type 9. Mirabel did not try to avoid conflict with Abuela: she faced her directly.
I don't know about Mirabel not being a 9, maybe she's the countertype. I'm not saying she couldn't be something else, I'm just not sure. Apart from that, I 100% agree on the other stuff. Too bad Abuela's type wasn't discussed here but I saw her typed as a 3 and although it somewhat fits, there's a more accurate description and that's type's 1 profile. She is perfectionistic to the point of intolerance and rigidity but when she finds out her excessive need for structure is what is actually making a mess of everything, her whole world shatters (kinda literally). Now, about Isabela I accepted people typing her as 1 although deep inside I was like "She's perceived as perfect by Mirabel, but she doesn't really seem to have perfection as a prime value". Also, she's excited by an imperfect plant, something which would probably annoy even the healthiest 1, correct me if I'm wrong. We never see her dealing with a severe inner critic or being super idealistic, she just wants to make her family happy.
@@nosemeocurreunnombredeusua2655 I actually think Abuela is an 8. Controlling, and her main goal is to protect her family. I have seen someone classify Mirabel as type 4
Como Sergio M dice: "Mirabel did not try to avoid conflict with Abuela: she faced her directly."

If you think this song describes you then it's probably right.:-)
Luisa is pretty much textbook 2w3 imo
Yes! Luisa is 2 in my opinion
Bruno is committed to the truth in a very 6ish way, refusing to sugar-coat to keep the peace. But there is definitely a line to 9 that shows up.
I knew someone would be talking about this! Just saw Encanto, saw the enneagram right away too! Thx for sharing.
I couldn't believe no one had made a video or even article about it! So I had to do it right away.
Bruno is 5. He is analysing everything around him and us thinking about the future.
I’m a 9w1 - this was interesting and enlightening.
Luisa is definitely an 8. Being 8 is not about being conformational or intimidating. It is about the excessive need for and stress regarding control. They take lead even when no one else will. Her goal is not to be helpful but useful. They is a difference.
She mostly feels as though she is only has worth if she can be useful that's the description of type 2
As an 8, she’s definitely NOT an 8. She’s a 2. An 8 would never show that much vulnerability like that. There wasn’t an 8.
I agree. Also her song is more illustrative of enneagram two patterns. Phrases like "I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service"
@@theartofgrowth6958 Ohh that's very interesting. Thank you for commenting about it! Is it because 8 integrates to 2?
Great observation! What you do for the family and the three sisters. I hadn't thought of that but you nailed it!
@@bluekidmiha778 that just made my week truly thank you
Wonderful video! Your appreciation of the enneagram really shows.
Thank you! It is how I spend my day every day!
This was brilliant! I hadn't even considered Enneagram and your final message is beautiful - thank you!
Thank you!
Great analysis. Thank you from a 4w5!
this was so good. I watchec the film after your intro. This helped me understand ennegram better
It really does. It's a beautiful representation.
Oh wow! I'm super honored!
I thought the same
She was rejecting to talk about herself
also she was around people almost all the time to listen to them or serve them
Man you made me cry. I'm a #9
I love that. The nine is underrepresented in film so I was thrilled to see this.
ngl, I disagree with a lot of these. I would say:
1- Abuela Alma (unlike Isabella, she feels the need to act like the family is perfectly together to *keep* the family together. She would do *anything* to protect her home, her family, and her family's dignity.)
2- Luisa/Mirabel (Luisa: her song is all about how she feels the weight to do everything and be anything for everybody- but herself. We see at the end of the film how people help her lift things and she actually gets to take some time for herself. This is a 2 going into 4, not an 8 going into 2. Mirabel: for Mirabel, she feels very similar to Luisa. Everything she does, she does for the family. She tries to be open about her true feelings and her parents even tell her, "you have nothing to prove." Mirabel had been told she was enough- at least by her parents- but she had to come to that conclusion herself.)
3- Isabella (she is perfect out of need for herself, not for the family. She *says* it's for the family but it's because she feels the family needs to see her as perfect. I'm a type 3 so I get it ^^)
4- Pepa (agreed- it's pretty obvious ^^)
5- Dolores (agreed)/possibly Bruno as well
6- Augustin/Bruno? (Augustin is a great example of a 6. He is extremely concerned for his family. He wants to make sure that Mirabel is confident and obviously fusses over it- in a loving way tho. Ironically, he has allergies too.)
7- Camilo (he is a straight 7. He shapeshifts because he thinks it's fun. Even in serious moments, he often shapeshifts because fun is a coping mechanism.)
8- I don't see any 8s here.
The way they dance together, the way he helps Pepa calm down, and even the way he tells Camilo to stop shifting and be respectful all give me big 9 vibes.)
I'm not sure about Antonio (maybe a 2) and am in debate whether Bruno is a 5 or a 6.
When she offers to get him out of the wall, his response is "meh." LOL
I dunno, I don't think a six could handle that much isolation for so long.
Ooh my the way l agree fully what you said soo good my intuitive pin point the main 3 plus the grandma is literally like my mum who is an 8
I reckon abuela is a counter-phobic 6 and Bruno is a phobic 6.
What type do you think the abuela is?
I lean toward and SO1. All about the community and doing things right and earning the miracle. Disconnected from grace until the end... which is her redemption.
I think now I will go watch the movie. 😊
It’s so good!
Abuela is a 6, yeah? So much fear.
Not focused on her own unique ability, only the obsession to have one to "make her family proud."
The entire movie is about Mirabel realizing that she doesn't need to be magical to be successful in the eyes of her family.
There’s alot more that you can say about Bruno…. But we don’t talk about Bruno. No no no😃😂
I'm seeing a lot of people online saying they believe Pepa is a 6. What are your thoughts on this? Do you still think she is a 4?
I should also add that I think of her as a 4 and part of that is due to her emotions being on the outside and very visible to those around
Can 4s just let 9s shine for a bit ✨😂
Well there is also tri types and subtypes
Soooooo
ya, I feel ya. a lot of the 9s who aren't ready to accept that they are great AND are 9s, mistype as 4s, leaving the 9s who ARE ready to type as 9s with crappy stereotypes. but seriously 9s are my favorite. they're great 🥺
@@rianczer yes! I didn’t want to accept that I was a 9 because “ 9s sleep to their emotions,self awareness etc”
I felt more like an 8, 3 or 5 but the more I realized I am a 9 trying to forget my core. 😅
All numbers are great ❤️😊
People is 6. She thinks about worst case scenarios
Oh goodness. :/ so many people are being deceived.
I strongly dissagre with Luisa as 8. Eights hate control and drives to independence and domination in enviroment, strongly not Luisa. And also I think that Mirabel is 4 with her struggle of find herself and belonging. Also she is confrontational when needed unlike 9ines. The true 9 is Bruno, he is truly calm and peaceful character with strong fear of confrontation even with his family.
I didn't care too much about the movie. What about the grandma? To me she was a narcissistic 7, living focused on appearance.
