    I'm really happy with my Satiator, it's really simple to set up and everything just works. I have a reasonable collection of original disks too, so the fact that I can still play my disks without having to set up a second console with an ODE is well worth the cost.

    This device is badass. Its tucked away in the Video CD slot where you can see it which for the most part is an unused section of the Saturn. It plays all region games. Its plug n play. You dont have to remove your CD-ROM drive so you can still play your original games as normal and you can keep your RAM cart in place. Now you can load your games to this device and preserve your CD laser. Amazing stuff. Well done to the creator of it.

    I think the Saturn quickly became the device with the most options in ODEs. It changed from 0 to like 5 in just a couple of years.

    Btw, if you have a dead battery hitting the reset button on the bios screen will allow the satiator to boot.

    Looking into this, great job on the video! Ive got a lot of saturn games already so leaning to the satiator over other ODE options. The panda is a plus too

      Don’t get me wrong. I think Bulk Slash is one the console’s greatest games.

    Nice vid. If I didn’t have a MODE and MPEG cart I’d consider one

    Try defragin' the sd card to combat those skips. See if that works. I found that doing it to the sd cards for my dreamcast gdemu it helps games run with no issues. Great video though. 👍👍👍👍

    For the price, it needs MPEG support. That leaves Fenrir being that best bang for the buck option.

    • @SEGASATURNSHIRO
      @SEGASATURNSHIRO  Рік тому

      The Fenrir is absolutely the best bang for your buck, and it even boasts some of the best features out there. The Satiator is a great tool that has come in handy for me in several situations, but for most folks, it's probably going to be Fenrir.

    The inability to play MPEG games isn't a big deal, you'll just have to swap it out if you're so hardcore as to own an MPEG card for saturn and REALLY want to play Lunar on Saturn. That said, there are easier ways to play better versions of Lunar SSC, the Falcom Classics games are available in newer versions elsewhere, Sentimental Graffiti is on like 15 platforms.

    • @AssaulteedOne
      @AssaulteedOne Рік тому

      All of the games you listed are only for optional enhancements too.
      The only game to require the MPEG cart is Lunar Complete - the normal version does not require the cart. Falcom Classics & Sentimental Graffiti only use the cart for bonus content on bonus discs too, so easy enough to work around.

    Looks like a fairly ideal device for playing emulated games on your Saturn. That price though, oof. But still, so long term preservation, even for your own games, these things will be come a must in a future.
    Makes me wonder though if an official Sega Saturn Mini or something, with some way of increasing memory and installing any game you want would impact this scene, if all people want to do is have a nice "official" way of playing any Saturn game they can without needing original hardware.
    Still, I love all this stuff and this is indeed great to see. Nice video.

    • @Vintiqueture
      @Vintiqueture 3 роки тому

      You probably didn't mean to, but you use "emulated games" here incorrectly. Playing games on the Satiator is the same exact games you'd be playing on disc.

    Am I missing something with rayearth? Is it a joke or does that game let you run backups?

    • @PandaMoniumReviews
      @PandaMoniumReviews 3 роки тому

      No, that was shown as an example for the “no solutions,” back when real copies were the only practical option for playing Saturn games - other than mod chips.

    Wait I can save and load saves from the satiator?

    • @SEGASATURNSHIRO
      @SEGASATURNSHIRO  Рік тому +1

      You can backup and transfer saves using Slinga's Game Save Copier, but you cannot load saves directly from the Satiator while in game...

    • @markcollins2704

      @@SEGASATURNSHIROWhat would be your recommended way to save? Do the 4mb ram carts allow you to save?

    • @SEGASATURNSHIRO
      @SEGASATURNSHIRO  Рік тому

      The Pseudo Kai & Action Replay carts are similar to Satiator in that they allow you to transfer saves to and from the Saturn's internal memory, but direct saving in game is not supported.
      The OEM Backup Ram carts support direct loading of saves as well as the "Saturn Gamer's Cart", however, those can be a bit pricey (still nice though).
      Honestly, if you're not trying to play several different games simultaneously, it's easy enough to use Saturn's internal save RAM, and then just keep all your saves backed up via Satiator or Cart.

  • @imissmypencils
    @imissmypencils 2 роки тому

    Damn that’s cool but I can’t afford it at the moment. The cartridge is $260 and most Saturns in my area in great condition Go for around $150-200

    the price is prohibitive what madness!

    • @Null_Experis
      @Null_Experis 2 роки тому +1

      That's cheaper than most of the good saturn games. Rayearth is minimum $500. Panzer Dragoon Saga is like $1000+. Burning Rangers is like $650. Would you prefer to spend $300 on Elevator Action Returns? Hey, you could buy the Mega Man 8 disc for $20 less. Just the disc, though. No case, manual, or art.

    "I can get a two pack from my local dollar store" -- hard brag detected. The game copier is something I'd love, but the Rhea and Phoebe aren't supported, so I'm looking at the Satiator or Mode if anything ends up happening to either of those. Fenrir is nice, but something I'd wait a bit longer on. I've already had one disc drive fail, so I'm just waiting for the others to go, too. What I'd really like is for someone to make some sort of cartridge slot replacement/alternative. Those things are a pain in the ass.

    • @Null_Experis
      @Null_Experis 2 роки тому

      With my saturn, I replaced the screws on either side of the cart slot with screws that were about 1mm taller than the originals and now the card bottoms out slightly higher and it boots 100% of the time, even years later.

    • @dtester
      @dtester 2 роки тому

      Sometimes a good cleaning is all you need for the cart slot. I've restored my cart slot with folded 3000 grit sandpaper on a cut piece of old credit card and 99% alcohol. After a good cleaning you can maintain with paper and alcohol (rough brown recycled paper works well) as you don't want to use sandpaper that often. Just for that deep clean when it gets bad.

    LOL at Saturn gamers thinking this is expensive. SMH
    You pay $$$ for Panzer Dragoon but not for something that will let you play almost every game and not hack your Saturn. You guys are just the worst.

    Why would anyone want this over a terraonion mode?

    • @Gladson
      @Gladson Рік тому

      Why would anyone NOT want it? You don't need to disassemble the console, you keep the ability to use discs if you want to, if you have more than one Saturn for whatever reason you can just remove the Satiator from one device and plug it into another within seconds, etc. Why would anyone NOT want this?

    • @SEGASATURNSHIRO
      @SEGASATURNSHIRO  Рік тому

      2 reasons primarily (1. Content creators and folks who run conventions love these, as they can easily be swapped between consoles and carry the entire library in your pocket.
      2. Satiator is MUCH more compatible with a lot of new home brew games that use areas of Saturn's memory to enhance performance, where the Mode uses those same memory chunks for several of its features).
      That said, MODE a great as well, and I ended up putting mine in my Dreamcast...
