I like the fact that you review the car in all it’s aspects, positive and negative ones. Some other journalists do their reviews as if they are promoting for the car…. Good job Thomas.
Agree your comments that the new buttons that are combined in panels are a backward step. Everything else looks great except sedans are much more elegant.
The Mercedes is initially easy on the eyes. The IX is more challenging, but also more futuristic and unique, what I would want for an EV. I also like the simplicity and modernity of the BMW interior. The IX M60 in black with bronze trim looks really interesting.
Awesome review as always, Thomas. Beautiful suv and the front design is more befitting of an SUV than a sedan. Not sure why mercedes did not create a seating comfortable for an adult in the 3rd row since EQS SUV I believe is in the same family as GLS. Thanks.
I would like to see the family of 7 where all are above 1,85m (Thomas size If i remember correctly) and drive in the same car. The 3, max 5 existing ones in europe are probably not justifying making the car longer... A good friend has 3 siblings, so with parents they are 6 and back then, when they still went to school and travelled together they magically managed to seat the little ones in the area with lesser space in overall way less comfortable cars. Crazy concept, right? And i don't think a S class SUV is the typical workhorse where you need to squeeze in the colleagues to drive to a customer or whatever.
Mercedes really are leaps and bounds ahead of Tesla when it comes to the interior design - I love it. Looks a little conservative on the outside, hopefully the full on AMG version will give it more of an assertive presence. I'm sure it will sell like hotcakes! 🔥
That is exactly as you puts it Stephen. Mercedes knows how to make it pretty but build the trade off is the quality and drive quality, engines are worsen for their cheaper range such as GLC, GLB OR GLA.
You NEVER disappoint!! Your reviews are thorough and thoughtful. I just watched you review the MBZ EQS SUV and wondered how do you prepare so thoroughly since the car was just released to the public and your detailed knowledge of the car was impressive. What’s your secret? And, your charming presentation separates you from other reviewers. Thank you. Danke Schoen 🙏
Mercedes EQS SUV sleek exterior with a very functional & comfortable interior ... Puts BMW iX & Tesla to shame = Mercedes EQS wins ! Slainte' ! Cheers !
No because the EQS has WLTP range of up to 660km. It also recharges 250km in only 15min. And when it comes to tech we dont need to even talk about that.
Your reviews are just the best - thanks for this - it is absolutely on my radar - I had a look at the Audi E-Tron today- just to see what it was all about - I was there 15 minutes an not one person approached me - great car I am sure but too austere - each car in their showroom bar one was black with a black interior and black wheels. As a current Mercedes customer I am prepared to wait. Also when you walk into a Mercedes showroom you are greeted, welcomed, offered a seat, a salesperson and a coffee!!!!!
Thomas thanks for doing the 3rd row seat. This just made the current generation of GLS and GLE looks more usable. Also in Canada the cost of replacing a EQS battery is around $50k CAD so after 10 years of usage it would be a nightmare compared to only spend $5k to replace the current 48v battery of the mild hybrid system. Economy wise the current GLS and GLE 450 (7 seater configuration) is looking like the best thing to own for long term as I cannot see someone spending $50k on gas, and fluid change in 10 years. Until they manage to improve cost of battery replacement and develop the battery to make it smaller with the same KWH. These electric cars are looking like disposable vehicles now.
i don't think the replacement cost of batteries will be the same in 10 years, pretty sure it will decrease. Also could i ask you what is your source for that 50k CAD?
Would prefer bigger number (350/450/580) to indicate bigger range, with + suffix for more power / AWD. Range is the most important metric and 350+ having more range than 450 model confuses me.

Nice review Thomas! However, given that older models had height adjustable air suspension, it wonder why it's software-locked on the EQS in US/Canada? Seems backward. Please help us raise this question with Mercedes 🙏🏻 As for the slide out door handles, just running a finger along the length of the door seems to work 100% of the time for me.
@@autogefuehl That's a pity for such a (probably) very expensive car. I wonder what stops them from integrating one... Maybe in the future, let's hope.
It’s a shame mercedes is choosing to waste space underneath the hood. I’m sure there is a better way to package the HEPA filters that allows for trunk space. Teslas have a similar filter in their cars if I’m not mistaken?
another thing...no roof rails? that won't work for people who carries sport equipment. I do hope at least MB have a provision for roof rails like on the petrol sedan versions that there is a cover that you can flip-up and screw in the cross bars.
Idk why but I expected it too look much bigger like GLS just looking at this from the outside this seems to be in between the size of a GLC and GLE, looks small for an “s” model

Yeah, this shows the EQC might've been a pretty quick push to just get an EV SUV on the market for Mercedes, while this fully realized, dedicated platform is what they're really capable of. Different size classes, of course, but styling and packaging is much mroe realized.
I agree though in fairness to EQC it has it's own advantages too such as heat pump, simpler quicker door handles that always work, generally cheaper, less distracting screen, for some easier-to-use buttons instead of capacitive everywhere, more components shared with other cars, 4wd as standard, faster acceleration as standard comparing entry models, charge port cover not held on by awkward piece of string, doesn't need complications like rear wheel steer etc. Upgrades like range and charging time aren't quite even double in the real world either and may not be relevant to some users anyway
I wonder if Mercedes allows costumers to order this car without capacitive buttons, that would be cool. The car itself is beautiful and the interior is gorgeous. Whoever i share the same thoughts with Thomas. Why put something in the car that's more expensive to produce and not practical for daily driving? It looks like a steep back not evolution.
I don't like how the A pillar continues down at 2:45. It looks like the pieces don't fit well or are misaligned. I expected more, especially from a press car that everyone will closely inspect.
Somehow I am not impressed when gigantic companies even after all these years can't beat Tesla's range, acceleration and not a single one manages to make a frunk. ...not to mention that they made it look like an estate to get better aerodynamics and that still doesn't make a significant (if any) difference.
Shorter than the liftback (not really a sedan), and not really all that huge total cargo space. Similar to sub-5 meter SUVs, it seems? I bet it's an amazing car to drive, though.
