    Ty. Would like to see this compared to 100-500 with 1.4 ET pics quality, lenght, weight, and feel. Also IBIS and lens stabilization at long end. Ty, again.

    Brilliant and a well-delivered & honest review. Thanks for sharing your expertise on such a revolutionary lens. It's basically a 2x tele-converter version of my 100-400mm which i'm looking forward to using as soon as it arrives

    This lense will extend my EF 70-200 L f/2.8 and EF 100-400 L with with EF/RF adapters on my R7. This is a zoom range I'm looking for a long time to get it from Canon. And yes, I'm an all Canon shooter. I own and use only Canon lenses on my 7D Mark II, RP and R7. But this lense would be for me a must have, because I'm shooting wildlife in the most cases, so this zoom range ist best suitable for my needs.

      I couldn't agree more! This lens is perfect for wildlife photography because the focal length is crazy. We tried it with the 1.4x and 2x teleconverters and that was just ridiculous, but equally amazing!

    Jack Russell, the new standard measurement system.
    I got my preorder in for this lens. Being in the USA, the price is very good.
    I hope the IQ at 800 wide open is at least as good as the RF800 f11. Cutting the minimum focus distance nearly in half will be a big gain.

    Great first view video, thanks guys! Wish they would have just sacrificed 100m or so and had an internal zoom with a better f than f9 though. You mention it would be great with a crop sensor camera but unfortunately canon only have the r7 which is pretty pants. If they brought out an internal version more similar to Sony 600 or nikons new 180-600 I'd no doubt buy it. But this lens doesn't interest me unfortunately.

    Interesting and must be a good one. However, I feel that a Canon RF version of 150-600 f5-6.3 lens would be more useful and more affordable.

    So anxious to check this lens out. Good chance I will buy it.
    You kept saying... Long ways away.... Farther away....
    Ive been shooting almost exclusively with the 800 F11 on my crop sensor R7 for a 1280mm equivalent for a year now. About 130K shots, in the last 15 months, the vast majority of my brst shits have been from 20-35 ft distance.
    People often see my gear and say, "I bet you can shoot stuff a long ways away"... My reply, "Not if i can help it" 🙂
    Oh, im a birder. Trying to fill the frame with small to tiny birds.

      We’d have to do a side by side comparison with a final production version of the 200-800mm. We’re hoping to do this when we can get our hands on one!

    How much brighter is f9 compared to f11?

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  7 місяців тому +1

      A whole stop difference is half the light. So from F8 to F11, you are halving the light. F9 to F11 is 2/3 of a stop difference, so not quite half... but still a good chunk less light depending on what other factors you need to balance for your subject, i.e. shutter speed, ISO tolerances, etc.

    Would a 100-400Lii with 2x be sharper?

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  7 місяців тому +3

      Hard to tell without a direct test of this set up in all honesty. Possibly not as the 2x teleconverter does usually result in softer images versus without. But I really couldn't even say without testing it.
      I'm not sure if it would be my chosen set up though - it would be quite unweildy by the time you have an adapater, a teleconverter and the EF 100-400mm on there. Also worth considering that you'd be working with less light - you'd be down to F9-F11 by the time you've taken the 2x into account.
      But, I also completely understand that it's not feasible for everyone to suddenly ditch their prized possession L lenses and move over to RF equivalents or alternatives! I'm sure someone will test this combo before long as others will no doubt be thinking the same thing.
      Thanks for watching!

    Look at the Canon's two full frame kit lenses - 24-105mm F4-7.1. Why did it go up to F7.1? It could be easily F6.3. Or new 24-50mm F4.5-6.3? It could be F4-5.6. Canon just wants to sell "L" lenses. And drive people to spend more. But millions of users need budget good lenses. If you do not allow others then make affordable good lenses with at least a good aperture range.
    While noting to say about RF-S lenses.

    Kind of sucks that Canon is refusing to just offer an f/6.3 600mm zoom.
    Everything they make is either super ridiculously expensive or just very compromised. The Sony/Nikon 600mm zooms are the perfect middle ground in my opinion. Sure it's nice to be able to go to 800mm without a TC, but those lenses get you to 840mm f/9, and let in 2/3 more light at 600mm while being much cheaper, here in Europe. The Sony lens is 900€ cheaper, the Nikon 500€.

    • @henryzweihander8282
      @henryzweihander8282 7 місяців тому

      Interesting, in USD pricing the Nikon is only 200$ less and the Sony is mostly listed at 100$ more from what I'm seeing compared to the 1900$ Canon 200-800.

    • @cy9nvs
      @cy9nvs 7 місяців тому

      @@henryzweihander8282 Yeah, makes no sense, there's no consistency. In Europe the Sony is cheaper than the Nikon, in the US it's the other way around. Wouldn't be surprised if Nikon and Canon are overcharging some regions in order to compete with Sony in the most important market.
      Sony: 1650€
      Nikon: 2000€
      Canon 2500€

      Totally agree, very annoying. Internal zoom and lower than f9 would have been great with the sacrifice of 100m or so. Like you say 600 is perfect middle ground and more desirable for many reasons.

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  7 місяців тому

      Arca swiss is common, but it's not a standard. Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc. therefore probably find it easier to use their existing foot design and let their users simply add on their own suitable QR plates.

      There’s probably very few scenarios where you’d need to be at 800mm and only 80cm from your subject.

      @@WilkinsonCameras I see the 200-800 more as a wildlife lens which is what I’d get it for which would have been a better test for this lens where you would use 800 mm up as close as it would focus I’m currently using the rf 100-500 and def tempted to px that for this depending on full comparison reviews comparing the rf 100-500 with a 1.4 x to the 200-800 . At minute will be shooting onthe r6ii after getting rid of the r7 as I love the preshoot feature but the r7 shocking readout speed pushed me to the r6ii and to pull back some of that crop reach with the rf 1.4x

      @@tintin69rr it is definitely more suited to wildlife! We had the 3 new Canon lenses for just over 24 hours and had to guarantee a subject so shoot that could work for all of them and a location to film at very short notice. Wildlife isn’t as guaranteed 😅

      Which camera do you have and what is your budget? We can try to suggest some alternatives for you. You may need to settle for a shorter focal length though of course 😊
      Affordability is relative, so if you are looking for a telephoto zoom lens which goes up to 800mm the RF 200-800mm is £2,299 which is a remarkable price for this focal length range - which until recently wasn’t even possible to make in a sensible size and weight.
