There's a reason why Roy's nickname in metal world was The voice of God. He's the person who got me into metal, and one in of the most unique and best voices I've ever heard in general.

THIS is one of the greatest filmed shows (at least in Metal) of the new Millennium in my eyes... The camera work, the set-list, the total engagement of all the band members (and guests!), and Roy Khan in a magical state.... His voice Live sounds more raw and openly emotional than on the recordings, where it comes over like the velvety voice of an angel - but the grit really rewards the delivery of message, which is pretty powerful on the songs. The duo of albums "Epica" and "The Black Halo" on which the majority of this show was built, were loosely based on the legend of Faust, most known in its version by the German Classic W. Goethe. That will explain numerous instances of painful dualism reappearing in the lyrics! Tough choices, dark passions, and fatal mistakes, all led by the search for good... search for light of knowledge and love, fall into darkness - and drag those you love with you. Was it even avoidable, or just the Fate?
Needless to say, in their amalgam of text and obviously inspired music, these KAMELOT albums stand as unsurpassed pillars of their catalogue. Never get old, since every track sounds fresh, original, and indispensable. From the same show, I would love you to check out "At the Center of the Universe", the opening track form "Epica" album, which holds special meaning to me, as the first song to really win me over to KAMELOT - and it is also the summary of Faustian tragedy in a nutshell: "'cause in the center of the Universe, we are all alone". As with any good poetry, one can interpret that differently: are we humans supreme? Or are we just egotistical and ultimately interested in ourselves only?.. (The same with "When the Lights Go Down", where you came upon a beautiful interpretation, although closer to the context, the song is probably about the feeling when the public "show" is over, curtain falls on the glitter of worldly life, and the "hero" is left with himself - empty and pitiful.)
Another song, which would be "different", but not due to lack of catchiness - "Forever". It opened their earlier album, "Karma", and is special in that it actually paraphrases a well-known Classical music piece. Maybe you will even know it? If not, then it becomes a "2-for-1" discovery, because the original is soo beautiful. A hint: Roy Khan is Norwegian, and to top it off, the concert was taking place in Oslo... :)

Casey Grillo is the drummer (if i remember correctly) He's amazing. His drum solos during concerts have been great fun when I've seen them live.
He's moved on to Queensryche now though

Interesting take on the lyrics outside of context. Both these songs are part of a double concept album based on the story of Faust, in which the protagonist Ariel, a Christian, is obsessed with understanding humanity's place and purpose and the nature of the universe, and sells his soul to the demon Mephistopheles to help him in his search. Knowing he is damned, he abandons his love to protect her, and she commits suicide. In When the Lights are Down, Mephistopheles tricks Ariel into sleeping with another woman he believes is his lost love. In Soul Society, Ariel is wrestling with all he's done and with his faith as his belief in God and heaven has been shaken.

Oliver Palotia keyboard player is Simones hubby. Great reaction to both but when the lights go down is one of my all time favourite Kamelot songs.🤘🤘

Btw, for the channel hosts, you may have heard that Simone also guests on one of the songs from the actual concert, and sings a wondrous duet with Roy. The song in this instance (they recorded several) is "The Haunting (Somewhere in Time)".

But if you want a singer that good now you have to find him in his old band..... conception. Because in my book there is no kamelot without Roy Kahn. The new singer Tommy, he's good but not Roy Kahn good. And the best frontman to ever grace a stage. Roy shows so much emotion in his music when he sings there is no other

Yea, Roy with Kamelot was a match made in heaven, one of the greatest singers in his genre and era. Too bad the reworked Conception songs are no match for what has materialised from Youngbloods head :(. Was lucky to see him with Kamelot, seen them with Tommy aswell but it definately aint the same.

Yes, new Kamelllot is also lovely, however, it lacks the passion these songs with RK have. Also, how can you beat sg that is better live than rrecorded
