  • Here we have a rare glimpse of Lochgelly when it was a closely knitted town.It was the kind of place where you knew nearly everyone. In this home video you will see that The Minto Committee decided to go to Burntisland by train. On arrival at the park everyone was given a white box that contained a pie, packet of crisps, carton of fruit juice and a cake. The committee also indulged in some sporting activities for all its members and their bairns. The Sack Race, Egg n Spoon Race, The Wheel Barrow Race were just a few of the games the bairns took part in to win a prize. The mums and dads took part in the quick sprints and to end the day it was The Tug Of War that decided the strongest side. I'm sure you'll know someone in this video. It may be yourself when you were a bairn or your mum/dad or maybe your gran/di even. One things for sure i'm sure you or 1 off the family will know somebody. Enjoy bringing back those memories when Lochgelly had great community spirit.

I have no connection with Lochgelly, but this cine film, warmed the cockles of my heart. Well done for digitizing this 8mm movie for future generations to view. This kind of documentary film is important for historical purposes. Thanks for sharing this wonderful movie.

Nicely filmed too! So many people used to wave their cine cameras all over the place - but this person followed the advice - "hold the camera still and let your subject do the moving." :-)

I remember getting the steam train from Lochgelly to Burntisland then it changed to buses, they left from North Street, Ravenscraig was my least popular as it was too far from the beach.

You will see on other videos the 14 double decker buses heading towards Burntisland and Ravenscraig park with the streamers hanging from the windows. Hopefully i'll be posting 1963 soon.
