That fence was preventing you from continuing along the highway into Göschenen (1111 m) which is the start (northern end) of the Gotthard Road Tunnel and the Gotthard Tunnel . Such a cool idea to make this hiking trip. The Gotthard Tunnel (trains only) is 15.003 km long and opened in 1882. The Gotthard Base Tunnel (trains only) is 57.09 km long and opened on June 1, 2016. The Gotthard Road Tunnel (automotive vehicles only) is 16.9 km long and opened on Sept 5, 1980.
Hello, nice video! I recommend you Valais and especially Les Portes du Soleil. You can take a chairlift in Les Crosets to Mossettes and then take another one to go down to France. Gorgeous views and couple of hours of hiking. Have a good day!
