Seoul has excellent public transport, but when you're traveling with big/many luggages, with elderly people or small kids, or in a group of 3 or 4 people, or a combination of either, for shorter distance amounting up to KRW 6,000-10,000 sometimes it is more convenient and almost the same or cheaper (total fare divided by number of people) to take taxi vs bus/subway
Thanks for all the informations I've been catching from your vlogs. I'm preparing now for my trip, end of this month. Quite nervous as I'm a solo senior traveller and first timer to Korea. Hope everything goes well.
I just came back from a 3,5 week long trip to Korea (Seoul). The first few days were a bit more complicated than I imagined, but you will get the hang of it. Uber also works fairly well in Seoul. Subway and bus becomes pretty easy after you use it a few times.
Thank you so much for watching! :)) I'm sure it will be okay but always feel free to ask us when you need help! ☺️ Try to avoid rush hours when there are so many people getting on the off the subways and buses.
If you have more than two big cases be aware most medium taxis have a huge LPG tank in the boot so not much space. If your lucky you might get an electric taxi which has loads of room for luggage.
If possible, use a public transport, because in Korea it is so good and easy to use, that there is no need to use a taxi :) In many cases it can be faster to use a metro anyway, because no traffic jams :)
Hi. Your videos are vey informative. Thanks so much for all your hard work. Btw, may I know what type of taxi should I book for 5 persons/passengers? Thank you.
This is super helpful! Are all the taxis the same size? I want to visit and wondering if I have a couple people with me and several luggage would require me to call 2 different taxis or do I have the option or request for a bigger taxi.
Hi, I'm from the Netherlands and I'm traveling to Seoul in April. I've tried to make an account for both Naver Maps and Kakao T, but for some reason my Dutch phone number won't recieve any verification code. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Both apps are very important for traveling in the city and I wouldn't know what to do without them
Your description of Korean taxi drivers is the same as Thailand's taxi drivers. Refusing to go to a destination even though it's only 30 mins away to a metro station, or when the destination is unknown to them (means not within their comfort range), and they don't speak English. I don't know what these taxis are for when they won't go here and won't go there.
I came back two weeks ago after visiting Seoul Korea. I tried to call taxi with Kakao app. But somehow I was not able to get to payment method option. On your video there is pay to the driver option but can you get there without having your credit card information already in your Kakao taxi account? Kakao taxi account said that my foreign credit card usage is limited to bike rental only.
Do I need a korean phone number to use kakao T? I have a kakao account already but probably won’t have a korean number. I plan to use Wi-Fi if possible.
Yes, you’ll need Korean phone number. They will call you when they’re picking you up. Also, it needed for the confirmation code when you make an account for KakaoT.
in Kakao T, is there a size option somewhere? we are 5 people in my group, so we can't fit in a regular sized car. since I'm the only one who speaks a bit of Korean and are used to travelling in general, we will have to stay together and not split up into two taxis, so I'm a bit worried about how to find right sized taxis.
@@keithooi5950 we havent gone yet! in mid october :) I just like preparing far in advance lol when are you going? if you’re going first and try it out, if you remember, I’d love it if you’d leave any tips or advice here :)
If you use Kakao T, is it possible to pay for the trip upfront before the taxi turns up? Just trying to avoid the situation when the taxi wants to charge you significantly more than the indicative price on the app.
Unfortunately, you can't because drivers need to use the meter to charge you. To be cautious, keep checking the meter and compare the price on the meter and the app once you arrive. :) If something helps, contact kakao T through the app. Hope this helps!
I don’t think so. Just register an account. Maybe you know Kakao talk (the messenger service most Koreans use) It’s the same account basically. You can use a foreign number there so you should be able to use Kakao Taxi with it too.
Yes, Patty is right ;). Download Kakao Talk while in US and register Kakao account. Then, download Kakao taxi app and log in with that account. :) So Korean number isn't required but you need a data access to use the app. Hope this clarified!
I am in Incheon right now trying to use Kakao T. There is no option to pay the driver. Only options are Kakao T Point or Credit/Debit Card. We do not have a Korean credit card, so we cannot use the app.
1. Not getting option to pay driver. 2. I have to Enterpr cc info but takes me to a k talk app which requires you to have a local number. So uber it is.
I try go download kakao taxi app but it ask me to download K.ride for foreigners instead. Please consider doing a update video?
Oh it is nice to know Uber can be used as well! Thanks. Will now binge watch your videos while preparing for my upcoming trip!
I'm moving to Incheon in 3 weeks and I'm binge-watching all of your videos! They're super useful, thank you so much. 😄

In the Kakao app, there is a choice for a van or bigger vehicle. I hope that helps.

Can you use the card you get from the airport for buses on these taxis as well?
The app requests for a payment card to setup the taxi app. It's in Korean and I need another phone to translate what the app is requesting.

I am in Incheon right now trying to use Kakao T. There is no option to pay the driver. Only options are Kakao T Point or Credit/Debit Card. We do not have a Korean credit card, so we cannot use the app.
Did you eventually figure this out? We are going next month: November.
Can i make an account in kakao T using a US phone number for verification???
is there anyone who facing the same problem as mine, which cannot sign in into kakao?
Hi, is it easy to get a taxi in Jeju?
Can u give me information for taxi with 5 passenger
JUMBO Taxi 타세요!
also, do taxis stop for foreigners?
Yes they will ;)
Can you show how to pay and how can I pay with my card if it’s not Korean one?
yessss please.
do i need a korean number to use the app?
The option "pay to taxi driver" does not seem to exist anymore.
I had to add PayPal or CC
Which option did you go with? I'm curious now that PayPal is another option beside cc
can taxi accept Tmoney?
Yes. Taxi accepts Tmoney :)
Or just be in a drama, they will appear magically anytime and anywhere you are
so you need cash to take kakao taxi?
Yes
If your card works in Korea, then you can use that card :) My friends use foreign credit cards.
Uber Vs Kakao Taxi ?
You need a Korean Phone number to use the app.
1. Not getting option to pay driver. 2. I have to Enterpr cc info but takes me to a k talk app which requires you to have a local number. So uber it is.
I have same issue too. Could not receive verification code via SMS..is using nonkorean phone number
so, its like Uber or Grab .
