This turned out sooo good! I always love seeing the overlap of clips we use in the final product 🤗 thanks so much for chilling with me in Long Beach! Just one of 3 full days of shooting 🤙 And I learned a ton watching you capture your own broll. Have already implemented several of these tips in the weeks since we shot together. Can't wait to meetup again in Denver!

Fredo Rami so my friend, I did some research as I too am new to this. Broll is all the stuff that would not ordinarily make it to form the main story (Aroll), the B roll adds more real emotion, experiences that seem to be less scripted. Hope that helps.

Don't ever abandon your equipment. Unless you have a tracking fob on it, it's not worth it. Why didn't you make sure there weren't any people around or make sure it's well hidden, like in a tree? If you desperately need to shoot yourself, someone I know recommends hiding a go-pro in a brown paper bag with a hole cut out & place it off to the side, never directly in the middle of a road where people will gravitate to kicking it or picking it up to throw out. But even this I'd be hesitant to do. Imo an invisible selfie stick that is extendable can be held at your hip & extended out behind you as you're walking. The handle looks invisible and won't show up on camera, so it'll look like someone else is recording you. Combine it with a wide-angle lens and you'll appear even further away. Another possibility is to tape it on a skateboard behind you and pull it with a green cord. In post, you can edit out the cord and it'll look like a tracking shot. You'll need a steady surface for this to work. I also suggest using a mini drone that you control by remote. Of course, the battery on these don't last very long, so if you need to get a shot of you walking, then make sure there aren't any obstacles and that you have enough time to turn around & catch it before it drains. My last suggestion is to use a moving luggage case. These are expensive, but worth having if you're solo. You can get great airport B-roll for whenever you arrive at a destination and have the luggage follow you. However, I've seen travel videos where the camera never leaves the hand of the producer and I've never felt like it affected quality. The best videos aren't the ones that have good b-roll, they're the ones that tell a great story. There's no story if you lose your equipment. And as a narrator, you can't give us a genuine experience if your trip is too stressful (or you're too busy filming) to enjoy it. People do still watch amateur videos & these channels have high subscriber counts, bc these vlogs focus on providing great content instead of fancy visuals. Don't bother with fancy camera work if your videos end up being all style & no substance.

(smile...) This posting helps me considerably because I really want to engage filming for our church in 2020...filming multiple angles and establishing the location context really helps me. We have standard and handheld tripods and extra iPhone, but I think we will do a camera to start. Happy new year and be well. Blessings.😉👍🏾

nah, you can tell that these shots are static. tips on how to shoot b roll is dont leave it on a tri pod. certainly dont set a expensive camera down then turn your back away to walk away so you can walk toward it. i know people who have had there camera taken straight from there hands in cities so i certainly wouldnt put it down then walk away someone can easily snatch it, you dont think it will happen or it will happen to you but trust me it will..
