    Visiting this Xmas, can't wait! Though I've never driven in snow. Do they sually plow the main roads? Thanks!

    • @YosemiteNation
      @YosemiteNation  Рік тому +1

      All of the main roads in Yosemite National Park, including Hwy 140, Hwy 41, and Hwy 120, and all of the public roads in Yosemite Valley, are open and plowed in winter. Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road beyond Badger Pass Ski Area are closed for the winter. Hwy 140 through Mariposa in particular is known as the "all weather highway" and follows the lowest elevation route into the park, thus it is the least susceptible to snow and chain restrictions.

    Congratulation for the video, it is very good. Would you know if tire chains are necessary in early November. I am going to Yosemite next November and I wonder if I have to carry them.

    • @jonathanfarrington6888
      @jonathanfarrington6888 5 років тому +1

      WFVF They can be required, but not normally needed until later December through early spring. The NPS does require chains in vehicles just in case during winter. If you’re still coming in a few weeks, have a great trip!

    Thank you for your video. We are thinking of coming in February do you think we will need chains for the tires ?

    • @YosemiteNation
      @YosemiteNation  2 роки тому

      Every year is different, so it's impossible to predict. February is traditionally the middle of winter for our region, but the last few years have seen light winters. It's best to be prepared for winter storms and to travel with snow chains. Also, plan your trip around visiting via Highway 140, known as the "all-weather highway" because it sticks to the lowest elevations while entering the park.

    Do the YART buses run in the snow? If not, and that is how you were planning to get into the park, are there any other options to get into the park from Mariposa if you don't have a car?

    Hi my wife and I are heading to Yosemite this January 7 and we’re staying in Madera. Is that too far from the park? And we renting a car that’s probably a front wheel drive so is that a problem for January road condition? Thank u

    • @haleyh9567
      @haleyh9567 6 років тому +1

      I would highly recommend getting a 4 wheel drive rental car for January in Yosemite especially if you are driving in and out of the park as you will have to keep putting them on and off when leaving the snowy conditions which happen within a couple of miles of leaving the park.

    How is the weather in mid January? 🥺

    • @YosemiteNation
      @YosemiteNation  2 роки тому

      It changes every year. It will normally be pretty cold at night but can range from cold to moderate during the day. In a normal year storms will occasionally pass through the area, bringing rain to lower elevations, and snow to higher elevations.

    Any tips on guided tours?

    • @YosemiteNation
      @YosemiteNation  3 роки тому

      We have an article on the subject on our website that lists options and companies. That said, with this being such a strange year, it's best to contact the tour companies directly to see what options they are currently offering.
