What people don’t ever account for is that the salary cap goes up every year. This year it’s 224 mil. In 2024 it will be 256 mil. In 2025 it will be 282 mil in 2026 it will be 306 mil. These are estimated projections. That’s why Burrow didn’t do a Mahomes deal. And like James said Mahomes wishes he could do that over. He took this supposed discount and as a result of taking the discount they let his WR1 walk they let his left tackle walk and they won’t extend the teams best defensive player. So fuck that. Burrow did what was right. In a few short years this co tract is going to look pretty dam good. They could sign Higgins to a 3 year 20-24 mil deal still too. They don’t have to pay Chase for 3 more years. So Mahomes looks like a fool. He took a discount and they start taking his best players away. What gives? Lol. The Bengals know how to handle their finances. We will be just fine I promise. We will still have great players. We have already started getting younger at certain positions. Interior D line is next. Got to draft Readers replacement this year and tag Reader I think to keep him in town for another year. I would draft a nose tackle in either round 1 or 2 next year. I would draft an offensive tackle In round 1 or 2 although we could wait another year on that because Collins is under contract for 1 more year and who knows maybe Collins resigns with us for 3 more. Karras could probably play into his mid 30s because he didn’t become a starter until his 4th season. So not a lot of miles on his body. Volson is going to be one of those guys who never gets hurt who plays at an average to above average level consistently throughout his career. That’s all you can ask for in a guard. He is tough as fuckin nails.

I'm going to miss BOTH Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd... We CANT lose BOTH Higgins and Boyd.. We can't go from having the best receiving corps in the NFL to only having Jamar Chase and a couple average 2 and 3 receiver. I understand losing one but not both fr. Even though Tyler Boyd is still in his prime and one of the best slot receivers in the entire NFL Tee Higgins is still younger, taller and better so id rather keep him.

Do we know when we are getting contract specifics? Like if Burrow’s contract is heavily backloaded, then it’s definitely possible to sign Tee to like a 3 year extension. This is pulling a page out of Brady’s book. He was never the highest paid QB until basically his last one or two years left on the contract

Looking ahead to the 2024 draft, Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson look like they could be pretty good Tee Higgins replacements if it came to it. Tag and trade would be the smart move for Tee Higgins if they can't afford him.

I'm big tee fan, but I think 2 high dollar wide receivers, is not the way to build for the long-term, money would be better spent on an interior pass rusher. Think about how the last two seasons have ended.

The Bengals broke with thir tradition of not offering guarantees outside of year 1 in 2020 when DJ Reader signed. Reader got just over 21 million guaranteed at signing. You guys haven’t been paying attention. Which is worrisome because it’s your job to cover the Bengals.

This is not the same ole Bengals. We as a fan base need to quit with the hometown boys discount stuff too. Other franchises are figuring it out by paying their franchise guys. This deal had to happen you were living in looney tune land if you didn't think it was going to be this big. It is well deserved. Joe will be a Bengal his whole career that is what matters. Mahomes will get paid again and Lawrence will top this as well. Then nobody will be saying anything about how much the deal is. The Bengals are committed finally to being great long term and today this deal showed that.
Ja’Marr Chase just said he’s going for the max dollars on his Free Agency and he deserves it 100% but that also means Tee Higgins will also play for the highest bidder and he also deserves it. Sucks that this trio’s journey as teammates is coming to an end, perhaps this is their last year together. Wish they won that SB in 2021.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I don't like the Bengals tying up that much money into one contract. Going forward, they will have to do a excellent job of scouting, drafting and managing the roster, perhaps making some key trades and/or acquiring additional draft picks as insurance in case some players or trades don't work out. That big deal means the margin for error at all other positions is reduced.
