- Published in the UK this week and in the US in early June. I was thrilled to receive an ARC and even more thrilled when I read it. Deeply rooted in Essex and existing in the same 'verse as "The Essex Serpent" this is a gorgeous novel about kindness, faith and time and the way history rhymes. Highly recommended.
Thank you so much for this. I have just read Enlightenment as I work through the Booker Longlist. I loved it and you have put into words what I thought and why I loved it.
Not everyone has had this response to the book which shows me that we are all different, but I think Enlightenment is a wonderful work and I will continue to champion it.

Thank you for the recommendation. It sounds interesting and strangely calming! Will check it out. Did you realise that Wessex (West Sussex) was an Anglo-Saxon Kingdom which ended up squished by one of the other Kingdoms during the Middle Ages battles.
Yes, I grew up in Middlesex so I'm down with all the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms that don't really exist anymore.
