  • Why did we change this section from a hip to a berm?
This is another area of the trails where there has been quite a few different features over the years. Before we made it into a hip it was a stand alone trick jump with a soft landing. The idea being to create something we could learn some stunts on. However, it injured more people than any other jump we had, including me! We all realised we don't care about tricks as much as we care about having a whole new line to hit.
We thought it would be a good idea to turn it into a sharp 90 degree hip which would then continue into the rest of the I line (named after Ian who started the line many years ago). This worked but when you joined into the rest of the line you lacked the speed to clear the following jump. We couldn't really make it any bigger as it was already super tight. It sat there and was hit occasionally but again, wasn't really what we were after.
Next plan was to follow the same route but have a berm to hold more speed- hopefully enough to clear the rest of the line. It only took a few days of digging as all the dirt was already there from the hip- it just had to be moved and reshaped. We were blessed with a few rain storms while building this and it really helped us get the dirt to compact nicely. The test runs were made on the day it was built so was pretty soft- but since it has baked hard and is running faster (and scarier!) than ever!!
Thanks to the trails crew for being a bunch of legends...
Next week's vid will be The Chilled Build Ep.4 where we continue building the Coronacoaster line. We've also had some beautiful evenings and have some sick footage from the recent sunset sessions with the crew.
