As a warning, furminators have blade in it (nothing that will cut your cat) but it will keep puling hair out until there's nothing left. You need to get a feel for when you've removed the undercoat (fluffy stuff) and top before stripping too much top coat. Also run the furminator along your bare arm first, it won't feel too good. This will give you a feel for how lightly you want to brush the cat, if you pull the brush up at a slight angle it won't run over their skin as much and will still remove plenty of undercoat. Cats have very thin skin and it's easy to give them brush burn if used too hard. Brush burn is a sort of rash, you can part the fur and see red skin with the stripes (in the direction it was brushed) its painful for the cats and there's not much to be done about it other than wait for it to heal. And it will make the cat less likely to want to be brushed in the future. Read instruction carefully.
Very great post. I love that you can explain what he's doing wrong, give info on how that can effect the cat and give better ways to do it without bashing the owner or being rude. Not all heros wear capes but I bet yours would be really cool 😏
Another warning, these furminators are not good for long haired cats. You pull all their protective under layer out. Seems at first that you are doing a good job but later on their skin gets wounds and scabs - a cat groomer told me to buy a metal comb and a slicker brush. So i did and that works so much better.. happy Kitty too😻
Furminatores DONT have a blade in them, it’s a device that’s usually used to groom cats during shedding seasons. If it’s used on daily bases it might cause some balding spots (due to access brushing, which pulls more hair than intended) but furminators never hurt cats if it’s used properly.
Hi - I hope you don't mind my saying, but it looks like you are applying a lot of pressure while brushing. YOu say it looks as though the fur will just keep coming - and it will - until the cat has no fur left.
@@cateh1997 yea well it's good it was pointed out for people who don't know. People still watch this video. I had absolutely no idea how this thing worked. I thought it was just a special brush and didn't realize it has a blade that actually cuts the hair and will until you stop. So now from reading that comment my cats won't be bald.
This product works too well! I tried it on my cat and it's a huge pain. So much fur came off. And like the cat in the video my cat also keeps rolling side to side, so he gets caught up in the fur that has already been extracted. It's just a huge mess. One thing I will say, it looks like the guy in the video was applying too much pressure while brushing the cat, that could be why his fur was thinning. And you should also not spend too much time in one area or will irritate your cat's skin
yes and another thing the cat will typically need to smell the brush in your hand. My cat loves his furminator he thinks he's getting a spa day from me. if I hold it up to him and he rubs against it I know he wants me to brush him with it.
Yes, the Furminator works very well, but I get swatted at a lot. If they roll over, I just do the other side! It works better for shorter haired cats. I don't put as much pressure on it as you did, there is a sharp edge and I am afraid I will cut them. My cats sure get less hair balls, though!
I usually deal with the hair by holding it in my other hand. I just keep adding more and let it ball up in my palm. It compresses very well, and that way it doesn't get everywhere.
Well don't make him bald. If it's summer time that's his winter coat you pulled out. Update: I baught one too. But after the loose hair comes out then you start pulling the rest out. If you want to thin the cats hair in the summer this is ideal. Also you can clean the carpet, the cat towers and other things with this tool. I love it. You can tell if your vaccum is really picking up the hair too. It's worth 25.00 at target.
yeah i dont think its meant for even monthly use. I got it for my cat to take care of the bulk as she has never had a proper grooming. It’ll be a months before i use it again She actually scratching and shedding less and getting less fur ball problems.
My cat is a short hair but pudgy (on a diet!). She gets knots on her back she can't reach. This does work BUT not all cats are as chill as this one. We have very short sessions, until she snaps and let's me know she's done, lol. Just FYI if you have a "spirited" cat like me. They don't all love or tolerate it well.
+Patty Dixon Yeah my cat doesn't sit still even with the cheap double sided brush that he tolerates. With the Furminator, a couple strokes is about all I can get and then he's scratching and biting. Sucks cause man the thing really works on the hair.
He's such a good cat! So laid back and very trusting of you, I think because you seem so nice gentle and calm with him! He reminds me of my Ozzy, he lets me brush him. I'll be brushing for a long time and he'll have had enough he starts to walk away, I'll tell him in a real chill voice... oh come on back Oz we're almost done, please... it feels good, doesn't it and he'll walk real slow, looking back at me I can tell he's thinking about it and within 2 mins. comes back, gives me a look as if to say.... yeah you're right .... he's as good as gold, plops back down, it cracks me up... 😹😺😽 and he's so good letting me cut his nails, he'll get a attitude at first but I just talk to him like he's my little kid, and I hear this inner growl and I'll just talk to him, don't be mad, I'm not hurting you you know I'm almost done and please just wait a minute more oh, you're such a good boy. Okay I'll stop about my cat conversations , but talking to them they understand and they're smart, I stay calm and it keeps him calm. I don't go chasing, yelling get back here. Hey kids are so much smarter than people give them credit for. I guess this is what happens when you live alone LOL but I seen spray on Amazon that helps them from shedding so much I'm thinking it holds their hair down like Hairspray or something I don't know. His fur isn't laying everywhere, it's more like little dust bunnies here and there which isn't bad to deal with. but he never shed as much as since I did this super duper power brushing him 2 days in a row I brushed and every direction for about an hour and I swear I replenished and that the blood flowing into those hair follicles! And it's been hell since I always brushed him. But before you could always come in my house and never walk away with fur on your clothes now it's a different story, the fur is on my couches and I can see loose pieces of fur on him so you pet them and you get a handful of fur yuck. I don't know what happened. it was going to say he got old but why would this happen overnight 🐱 💓💓💓🐾
Tip - do it outside. Wear a full apron. (or clothes you plan on throwing in the wash immediately afterwards.). The fur will fly and you don't want it sticking to your or your furniture.
I forgot to add......you can clearly see from this video the sheer pile of the cat’s STRIPPED undercoat, which is their essential soft fur underlayer!!!
I love this brush... your doing to much prussure. I have a bery long haired fine fur cat.super soft. I run the brushish thing over her and if I feel a snag I keep doing that area. At least with my cat I'd you are doing it with no loose hairs it glides threw super easy. But not to often as you will hurt your cat. My cats tail had the most lolit also cut her fur to be a little shorter.
Thanks for the review! I have a cat that looks exactly like yours and I'm assuming I'm going to have the same issues using this on him because he likes to play a lot too.
Although the brush being used performed well, it does not appear to be an actual Furminator. There are several similar types of brushes on the market. I think you will find the Furminator works best. Beautiful cat by the way.
I used to have a cat that looks exactly like yours went missing a couple years ago . Probably no surprise he shed too. I loved that thing at first until I realized that brush and brushes like it CUT fur not just loose fur. So to start from square on I got my clippers and took all his fur off. He kinds liked it. Jordan Polzin yep, I put all the hair in a paper grocery bag while grooming (why touch twice?) and put the whole bag in he compost, easy peazy
