"Little Mary Phagan" Traditional Banjo Lesson

- Mary Phagan was a teenag factory worker from Marietta, Georgia, who was found brutally murdered in 1913. Leo Frank, the factory manager, was later found guilty of the crime and sentenced to life in prison. Shortly after the trial, however, rioters broke into the prison and lynched him. Fiddlin' John Carson wrote "Little Mary Phagan" in 1914. The song was first printed in 1918, and first recorded by Carson's daughter, Moonshine Kate, in 1925.
My instrument is an 1888 Thompson & Odell "The Luscomb" banjo tuned eAEG♯B (relative gCGBD).

Your history is slightly off. Franks was sentenced to death, with a jury that included 5 Jewish local residents. The Georgian governor commuted that to life w/out parole on his way out of office. That led not only to the riot, but also the formation of the ADL.
And they tried to frame a black guy for his crime.

I've stumbled upon your channel recently and I absolutely love it. I've been playing guitar for years but never tried the banjo or anything similar but your channel is great and I can't stop watching. Just curious, why don't you use other fingers to pluck, it seems you only pluck with your thumb and index? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm sure it's been asked plenty of times but it's bugging me
I started out using three fingers when I was a kid, but after a year I noticed that old blues guitarists mostly used two. I wanted to sound more like them, so started two-finger picking.

It's weird they keep pushing this when it gets mass debunked every time. They probably thought the musical Parade (which is about this crime), would "educate" people. Alas not so much. Surprising really, who wouldn't be enthralled and entertained by a musical about a raped and murdered child 🙄.
I'm sure Greenblatt and ADL won't learn, so onto next month for rinse and repeat. But as many of the quote reposts say, it says a lot about Greenblatt and ADL that they keep defending this convicted child rapist & murderer...

The ADL was formed after they failed to pawn the rape and murder off on an innocent black man. The birth of the Anti Defamation League was literally created to defame a black man and try to cover up the rape and murder of a 13 year old girl by a Jew. Fast forward to today and ADL is an NGO that is a leading adviser to our police agencies, all social media platforms (except Gab), and all our politicians. Pretty much every company kowtows to the will of the ADL because if they don't the ADL will get almost every news organization to write stories about how that company is some kind of evil bigot. It's funny how the NGO with anti defamation literally in their name is the biggest defamer in the world.

I grew up around peckerwoods and when they werent snorting crank or drunk, they were the biggest cowards playing victim about everything. Oh it was Frank.
Frank definitely did it. If a Jim Crow South jury DOESN'T convict a black guy and instead convicts the "white" guy to death but then the national (but mostly concentrated in Y*nkeeland) jewish outcry and more importantly, money, convinced the governor to undo the death penalty. The governor resigned in disgrace and the Anti-Defamation League was born of this case. The ADL along with the Southern Poverty Law Center are the pre-eminent arbiters of 'hate' laws in the US.
Fun fact: minstrels were predominantly Y*nkees and jewish and invented blackface. The term Jim Crow was taken from a Y*nkee jewish minstrel's song about the deep South. The Southern anthem "Dixie" was actually written by a guy from Ohio, so if anyone tries to make you feel bad for being Southern, remember that Y*nkee jews might've been doing worse and are projecting..
