TAHOE 200 | 200 MILES, 75 HOURS OF RUNNING, 2 HOURS OF SLEEP

  • The 2022 Tahoe 200 Mile Endurance Run was my second finish in my third attempt at the 200+ mile distance. While I DNF'd my first attempt at the distance at the 2021 Bigfoot 200, I managed to earn a finish at the 2021 Moab 240 in just over 92 hours. My goal was to improve upon that time at my attempt at the Tahoe 200 and to improve on things like sleep and nutrition, which I didn't manage properly during my first completed 200 miler. While I had zero crew/pacer support at Bigfoot and 2 amazing friends crewing and pacing me to the finish over the "final" 90 miles at the Moab 240, this time I had a massive support crew. Both Brian Baraniak and Jay Hagan hadn't learn from their decision to help me at the Moab 240, so they showed again. They were supported by Jay's wife Amber and their son Xavier as well as my buddy Tobias Sørensen and the best wife and support crew ever, my better half Anya. With a crew like that, my success was all but assured. All I had left to do was run or at least keep moving forward until I returned to Homewood Resort at Lake Tahoe to cross the finish line. I had an amazing experience, but there were certainly plenty of highs and lows and new and old mistakes along the way. I had less than 2 hours of sleep plus a couple of micro naps on the trail (2-5 minutes) when I continued to fall asleep on my feet.
    Please let me know what you like and don't like about my race videos and I will be happy to make some changes moving forward. Similar to my are reports on my blog I want these videos to help someone out there decide to give that crazy goal of theirs a go. You cannot succeed until you go out there and try and you cannot learn, if you don't fail at a goal every once in a while.
    HUGE THANKS to my awesome crew for spending nearly a week of their time to support my dreams. I could not have done it without you.
    See you on the trails!

      Thank you! The last 50K was probably some of the best running in a race I've ever done. I don't often get a second wind, but I certainly did during the Tahoe 200.

    Well done ! What did your peak training mileage look like ? Or did you concentrate more on time on feet ? Thanks and Congratulations 💪

      Sorry, just saw this, Joseph. I did a lot of weekly ultras, mostly 50Ks in the lead up. I focused on mileage rather than time on feet and general fitness. As an "aging" runner, I focus on injury prevention as much as on running. Definitely threw some elevation gain in there as well, but nothing crazy.

    So you didn’t sleep for three days?

    • @ultrakraut
      @ultrakraut  Рік тому +1

      Charlie, I didn’t sleep the first 2 days other than 2 trail naps of 2 and 5 min each and about 90 minutes the third night. There was another 20 minute nap at an aid station in there as well.
