You are the very best sewing teacher on UA-cam. I discovered you last night, and you are so great and explain everything so well. I have been sewing since 1963, high school and college. My college professor at TWU in Denton, TX, was from New Zealand. I love you, and may God forever bless you. I live in North Carolina, but I was born and raised in Texas. Most of my large family lives in Dallas.

It's SOOOO hard for me to take such a thoughtful compliment, but I truly appreciate it. There are so many other talented tutorial artists out there!! Happy you found my channel, and I really appreciate your support.
I'm from Milwaukee obviously, but I lived all over NC, and ended up in Dallas. Life is a wild ride, but you gotta just roll with it sometimes :)
Hope you have a great week!

Thanks for the videos! I started sewing because someone gave me a broken 1938 Singer Featherweight for free. Being locked down and unemployed by the pandemic I decided to learn how to fix this machine. Then when it was fixed I had to decide what to do with it. I made several masks from your tutorial and gave them away to friends and family. I posted pictures on FB and only one person made fun of me. I told him that he would not be getting a free mask. Then it became easier to get masks, and a friend gave me a buttonhole attachment for free. I wanted to try something a little but harder to sew, so I made a button up shirt with your tutorial. I'm doing flat felled seams and sewing entirely on the Featherweight. I'm currently finishing up my second shirt. I'm looking forward to the tutorial on long sleeves and cuffs. Thanks for providing something positive for people to learn from and encouraging people to branch out creatively.

Hahahaha, I love that there was someone who didn't get a 'free mask' for being an ass lol.
Thank you so much for this comment, it's fantastic that you fixed that unit and are already using it to make so much cool stuff!
Happy to share what I know, lots more to come soon. Have a great weekend buddy!

Thank you for your videos. Until the pandemic started this year I hadn’t sewn since the 1970s. Your video about threading a sewing machine got me started. You explained all the dials etc, and so I started making masks for friends and family. I now want to move into make other items, and I think I want to try and make a Hawaiian shirt for my husband, making sure I match the pattern on the pocket. I live in the UK, and enjoy your straightforward instructions and demystifying how to sew using a sewing machine. So, I’m pleased you are going to continue making basic videos, for those new to sewing like me. Thank you so much.

You are an inspiration for me. I have been fascinated with sewing machines my entire life. So far I have 3 machines including an embroidery machine, but nothing I make looks nice enough and get disappointed. I am watching all your tutorials and taking notes. Hopefully this time, with your guidance, I will succeed learning to even make a suit one day. Thanks for all you do.

I found you quite by accident while looking for information on threading a serger. I looked at several tutorials and yours was the best of them all. Not only are your instructions clear but your videography is superb. Yours is the only tutorial where you don't put your hands in the way. I'm impressed by your story. Congratulations on your recovery and the use of sewing as a healing "occupation". I'm an Occupational Therapist and the value of creating with your hands is so very important.

Great to hear your story. I started a business pretty much the same way you did many years ago, creating software for point of sales terminals for liquor stores. I didn't know squat about starting a business, marketing, the liquor sales business, etc, but as you say, I just started. You work out the kinks as you go along, and before you realize it, you know more about something than almost everyone else. I started sewing during lockdown this year using my wife's 1960 Singer 403A sewing machine and Viking 910 Serger to make masks, and I watched many of your videos to get me going. My greatest accomplishment so far was putting zippers in the legs of some work coveralls and creating an emboidered name tag for the shoulder. Your videos were very informative and valuable, so thank you so much, and keep those videos rolling!

I absolutely love your story! It's hilarious seeing all of the sewing equipment and supplies behind you while you're saying that you started sewing 'as a joke'. I laughed out loud. It's great too that you found another outlet for your creativity along with your great success in business, as a UA-cam/Amazon partner, and your role at TNT Cosplay.
I too am a lifelong artist, spending my whole career in video games (28 years) and 6 years in AR/VR/Movies. I pursued many artistic outlets (including making stickers) and got into sewing in order to hem pants, because when you're 5'3" nobody makes pants that fit 'off the rack'. In fact, the last time I tried to buy pants in a store, they had the short inseam sizes on the highest shelf and the longest inseams on the bottom shelf. That was the last time I set foot in a brick-and-mortar store trying to buy pants. I learned how to make hidden hems and sew buttons and am about to dive into my first set of cargo pants from a DIY kit.
I see sewing as another of the arts, but it's got amazing utility. It's art you can wear, which is why the show Project Runway is so amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those contestants drew inspiration and knowledge from your videos too. UA-cam is amazing for learning anything. If you love learning systems as I do, the learning is part of the fun.
I don't know if I'll ever be able to make my own clothing anytime soon, but I have so many ideas for art as fashion. One step at a time, like anything. People often say to me, "I could be an artist if I wanted to be" to which I always reply, "Wanting to be an artist is the first step. Then you have to do it." This is very similar to the "Just start" philosophy which is succinct and brilliant.
Thanks for all you do, and yes you have a great voice that's easy to listen to.

You explain things without talking down to us. You use professional editing and use good miking techniques. You use good angles to show what’s happening. You use a professional demeanor with an even narrative. When my Singer Touch & Sew’s feed dog broke (plastic dry rot) and I couldn’t find a metal replacement part anywhere (in March/April 2020), your videos convinced me to buy a Brother. I ended up buying a mid-range machine because all the cheaper ones had sold out with the virus situation. The NS2750D has been an excellent machine even though the learning curve in switching to an electronic has been a challenge. As far as the long hair and beard, it just makes you look extremely handsome (and sexy). I’ve learned a lot from you and Evelyn Wood that I never learned in high school sewing classes (from the 1970s). Thank you for the great videos. I look forward to seeing more.

I cannot thank you enough for this comment. You hit every specific point I make sure to focus on when shooting videos. Especially not talking down to people, and giving a no-nonsense approach to teaching without wasting any time. Excellent choice on that Brother machine, yes I am partnered with them, but I only accepted that contract because I love their machines so much!
Let me know if there is anything you'd like to see moving forward, and thank you for the compliments

I stumbled upon your videos when I needed assistance when making Hawaiian shirts for my husband and son. While I didn’t find exactly what I needed on your videos, I binged watched your videos anyway, because I was in awe of how easy you made some tasks look! I learned to sew garments as a kid in 4H and home ec, but for the past +30 years I’ve only used my sewing machine for hems or patches. When the COVID scare started hit, I started making masks for everyone I knew...then I remembered I enjoyed sewing...And ordered the Hawaiian shirt pattern and got cute fabric (Green Bay Packer Mickey Mouse) but haven’t made garments in years! I find reading pattern instructions confusing...your videos are great, great video angles, great step by step instructions and make it so easy! I would love a step by step video of you making a Hawaiian/camp shirt (I used Victoria Jones 220) I would never have figured out the yoke and collar from the written pattern instructions but thanks to UA-cam tutorials, I made two cute shirts! My son asked when we can get more fabric so I can make him and his dad more matching shirts!

Tock, although this video is two years old I hope it's not too late to add a comment, as I am a big fan of yours. I am 86 years old and have sewn off and on, mostly repairs and alterations, most of my life. A year ago I decided I wanted to make my own clothes and started working on a few shirts and a pea coat. Your videos really helped me get my sewing skills up to another level, though I still have much to learn. So thanks for that. As a former high school teach I recognize your teaching ability: good voice, excellent pedagogy! I wanted to add my thanks to the many who appreciate your work.

I stared watching your channel not long ago, I had used a sewing machine for a few minutes in the past, but just for a few minutes. Now I have to blame you for ordering a Brother sewing machine that I am expecting this coming Monday finally. It only took me a few months of tracking the damn thing. I had made a few pajama shorts for my daughters using a hand out machine... I needed an excuse to spend a few Benjamins in a new sewing machine... you had inspired me. Thank you.

Simply fantastic!I can sew and have been sewing for many years, but only on a simple machine. I bought the Brother SE 400 and it was overwhelming for me. I put it away and kept using my old machine. Then I started looking on youtube for some easy info on how to use this to me, fancy machine. I found you and oh, boy this was so helpful for me and your instructions were totally easy to follow. I asked you if the machine can handle thick fabric and you replied yes. I sewed pot holders and oven mitts with it. It works like a charm. I think you are doing a fantastic job and I am so glad I found you. I am technically challenged but because of your youtube presentation I can now use my Brother SE 400. I will keep watching because you also teach me new sewing techniques. Thank you for all your information.

Thank you so much for your help. I started sewing after watching your videos. I wanted to make face masks for my family. Well, my first attempts were pretty bad and yes I did cut my finger pretty bad with a rotary cutter. Seven stitches later, I bought an add-on lip for my ruler and just kept cutting. I have no idea how I stumbled across your content but I’m completely floored by how easy your instruction is to follow. I immediately subscribed to your channel, watched a few more clips and then watched this video. As I watched I found myself getting re-inspired and remembering why I wanted to learn to sew. A few years ago I was shopping for home decor for my San Francisco flat but found it frustrated me because the ideas in my head couldn’t be found either in retail stores or online. As a interior designer I was able to draw, put my ideas down on paper and have them custom made or learn to create the ideas in my head them myself.
Like you I found myself at a Joann’s fabric without a clue of what I needed to start. Bought the least expensive machine and began watching UA-cam, picked up a few beginner books and asking a few friends a bunch of questions. I soon hit a wall because my flat wasn’t big enough to keep projects out while I was working on them and putting things away, moving the sewing machine to a closet while we ate dinner and taking everything out again became what consumed most of the time I had allocated for projects. Eventually as you could imagine, I stopped working on projects or even trying to better my sewing skills.
So why I’m so floored by this video? One of the first thing you said, was how you were excited because you’re in a new studio. I recently relocated to Austin, TX to a much larger house and now have a room (I also call my studio) with enough space I can work on several different things at once and nothing has to be put away if I don’t want to.
I have no more excuses, and brand new sewing machine that can permanently stay on my sewing table and now I have a great UA-cam channel with instructions I can understand.
So thank you Jesus for igniting inspiration and creativity again.

Man, I just discovered your channel and I’m glad I did. I’ve been sewing for around a decade, making robes and capes, and some cosplay stuff. But in the last year or so, I realized that I’m not even 100% sure I’m even sewing right. So I decided to swallow my pride and watch someone who knows what they’re doing and I have already learned so much by watching your videos. Recently, I’ve wanted to do more than just easy, lots of room for error capes and stuff, but real garment making and sewing felt so intimidating and inaccessible. But you break it down so well, and explain things so good that I feel like I can make anything. I’ve ordered my first shirt patterns and am planning to start by making me and my brother some new flannels. I really appreciate your knowledge and willingness to share it.

I saw the article on my daily feed. Awesome! Amazing. I’ve been sewing since I was a teenager. My husband gave me a sewing machine when we were dating. I tell him that he created a monster. I’ve made most of my clothes early. All my kids clothes, learned how to upholster and making curtains. My kids never had purchased Halloween costumes. Lol. Made some extra money making bridesmaids dresses. It has been my best friend and the worst. Speaking of mental health, my husband suffered from kidney failure, and was so terribly sick for a very long time. My Buddy, my pal, my Husqvarna sewing machine was my lifeline. My sewing has kept me sane. The times that I felt like I was going to loose it, I went upstairs to my sewing room. I could see, and not think. Thank you for inspiring others. It is a dying art. Now. I’m going to stalk your videos. Sew on my friend. I love seeing a man behind a machine. 💋

Hello, I feel very fortunate to have come across one of your videos in my recommendation list. After watching you work on a bias tape project, I am now hooked on you. I just subscribed. You speak so nicely. You speak in simple language for a beginner like myself can understand. You have a very nice voice and articulate very well. Thanks so much for helping people like myself. It's been a life long dream for me to learn how to sew. After buying a used sewing machine in 1993 to learn, I am now finally getting to this hobby. In between 1993 till now, I've gotten married and have been a full time working mom. So now that I am semi-retired, I am taking a hack at this. I look forward to learning much from your videos. Please give us a tour of your new workshop! I'd love to see.

Thank you so much for your videos. They inspire, the educate, they are fun and focussed. Among the gazillions of tutorials out there - yours' stand out by their sheer quality and pleasure to watch. Sewing is creative, and heals as well. How can the different textures of fabric not remind us of the different textures of our lives. And this helps us to soften, fold and pleat or stretch as our new day unfolds. Thank you so much for making sewing accessible and since you asked for putting in requests: how to sew a pair of pants and how to sew a womans blouse?

Just as you, I took up sewing not getting any professional lessons. Actually here in South Africa when Covid hit us and we went into hard lockdown for almost two months I just decided there's is no way that I am going to be confined to my home watching TV! So, I bought my Brother A150 online and had it delivered and there is where it started. LAter also bought an overlocker (Serger as you guys call it) Started with pencil pouches and scatter cushion covers that turned into making Tote Bags (which currently I cannot stay ahead of making for people ordering) UA-cam (AND YOU!) are my tutor. I feel trial and error is the best way of getting you where you want to be. I and my seam rippers (yes plural) are the biggest friends LOL. Now with your help, I ventured into making men's shirts. Haven't started pants BUT I will get there. THANK YOU!! YOU ARE TRULY AN INSPIRATION TO ME. Wish I could have met you face to face but here's a warm greeting from Cape Town, South Africa. Please keep on making your videos. There are not a lot of easy good men's clothing patterns out there compared to female patterns. So, I am learning as well drafting my own pattenrs! Again trial and error. LOL

Your vids are helping me dive into sewing. I've always wanted to learn, but I felt overwhelmed about giving it try. You have a great way of explaining things, and I am excited to keep progressing!

This makes me so happy! I was super nervous to learn too, but with a little bit of direction, and a LOT of passion, you'll be able to make anything happen. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to be helpful along the way.
      Have a wonderful week

So cool to hear about your path. I just started sewing two months ago, and watching your videos for a week before getting the courage up to unbox my machine helped a lot. Hell, I'm making a viking tunic for the hubs right now. So thanks for the content! Congrats on your new place. Looks great 👍😊

I can’t believe it’s almost 2am in California and I’ve been watching so many of your videos. I am a beginner / intermediate at sewing. I watched my mom for years growing up. I am a floral designer but have always wanted to learn how
To make my own apron lol. I have currently mastered the masks but have yet to try aprons although after your videos I’m pretty confident I can sew a button down shirt no problem. Thank you for all the confidence you exude and for instilling that same confidence in others. 😉

lol, I apologize for keeping you up so late watching all of my sewing videos! I should totally make a video on making aprons, I'm adding that to my list :)
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate your support!

I got my sewing machine Xmas 2019 to re upholster the interior of my classic car but you have more or less taught me how to work a machine and how to sew so thank you very much for teaching me the skills to make more things myself.

I really appreciate this comment. I've also reupholstered cars, furniture and boats with even basic machines. So you can make anything from a shirt to something very specific like car seats, which is very exciting!
Thanks for watching, hope you have some fun with your projects :)
