I'd love one of these configurations in a two seat version with 50 gallon fuel capacity, a Rotax four stroke engine and a large Fowler flap to allow high speed efficient cruise but also low stall speed for grass strip operation.
Can anyone provide information on the current status and future plans for the Song aircraft and Melody Aircraft? Melody's web site is up, but does not appear to have been updated since 2016. I'd like to know if the aircraft is available, and whether there is a US representative.
I had forgotten about this. A full part 103 plane. Not bad. Shame about the speed limit. I think they could relax that a bit if only they hold on to the stall speed. And maybe FAA could cobble together a video pilot's course of an hour or two that you can watch a couple of times so people are armed with understanding of relevant aircraft concepts and dangers. No test, just the education and recommendation that it's very good to know. Maybe rewatch it once a year. It's great to loosen some bureaucracy and costs but no reason pilots shouldn't know what they are doing. Video allows us free effective education these days. Can be just as good or better than exam of the past.
It's usually only old people that are in aviation, because it's the old people that can afford these very expensive aircraft, it's too bad us younger people can't get into this too.
So this is pretty cool, and it's though I've seen it before. Is this not a Gas Powered version of the ElectraFlyer-ULS that I believe You Reviewed in an earlier Post. They look as though they are Twins? Is this the same Craft, same Company, it's definately the exact design as the Electric I've seen earlier. Am I wrong? Sure looks the same.. ;)
The only things that matter are top speed & weight. It fits both. You can control the top speed by using a particular pitch on the prop (a climbing prop), the weight is ...well, the weight.
Very nice aircraft. Your design looks identical to the Electro Flyer ULS except that airplane is fully electric. Which came first? Who copied who? I'm guessing the electric plane was based on your design and came after the Song because the airframe was ideal for the electric motor/battery pack installation. How many are sold and flying in the US? Are there any used models available? The $45K is still steep for some of us recreational flyers.
I like sleek and efficient, not a fan of the price. It really should be possible to make minimal single seaters dirt cheap. But I guess the low stall speed UL requirements makes the construction more expensive. A shorter wing and higher speed would be easier.
Probably the safest airplane ever built. Anything that glides allows the pilot to return to the earth without motor power. It is necessary for the new pilot to learn how to glide, which isn't that easy to learn.
That's why I bought one. But I ran into money trouble. Mine is #8. $39K with Polini and fixed prop, enclosed Polaris tandem wheels trailer. I brought it to CA from his place in Alberta. What I really want is his place, with airstrip. judaswasjames[at]aol.com
Seems like a lot of plane for a FAR 103 compliant bird at less than 254 lbs empty. I bet its real expensive though being almost entirely carbon fiber...
i guess if you consider 50 grand for a toy as no big deal. But I'd get bored with it like I did scuba diving......... a lot of hassle for the same experience over and over.
Since I have flown from Ontario Canada to Lakeland Florida in an ultralight, (which is what this is) and know of several others that have done cross country flights I would have to disagree. While they aren't the fastest, they do make for very enjoyable flight time.
@ber Murillo You have to understand that 20hp engine consumes less than 1 gallon of fuel per hour. With 5 gallons of fuel, the plane has a maximum range of 300 miles and than some. That's going distance for a lot of people.
I like the way Dan always asks most of the real world Direct questions and doesn't let go until he gets the answer.
Finally, something new in the part 103 zone!
Now there's a beautiful ultralight.
Definitely!

No problem, I will make one...
Cool concept! I like the twin tail booms. Wish the gear cranked up but can't have everything eh.
id really love to have one of these in electric

great stuff ...thanks for uploading.. how far it can fly single tank...and what is the wind or weather condition apply....THANKS
I think he thought Dan was from the FAA LOL! Great looking plane!
love your videos Dan! thanks.
I would like to see a tricycle with same performance in tractor configuration. Hopefully lighter too.

Great stuff
Hello, I'll llike to do it for rc, could be a long range plane?
Nice looking bird. At least the "flying" wasn't CGI. But still have to ask-HOW MUCH?
$215,000
Charles Byrd
Looks like the Challenger Line or Legacy Aircraft for me then!!!!
Thank you Mr. Byrd.
It's only about $50k lol. Not bad for what it is. Especially with the carbon fiber
Have mine for $39K with enclosed trailer. judaswasjames[at]aol.com
what does it cost ?
He said in the video if you and your brothers below would have paid attention to the end!
FIFTY GRAND
50 grand! Wow that's a lot of commitment in a hobby. Wish I knew something about flying.
Douglas Borgaro
well now you know it"s
expensive, build a old school air camper for economic, educational aircraft.
Douglas Borgaro
Look into BeLite, Fisher or Hummel for awesome ultralights that are very affordable.

This looks exactly like a gas powered version of the Electra Flyer ULS.?.
NICE!
I like this!
Are you sure you can fly this without a liscense?
The only things that matter are top speed & weight. It fits both. You can control the top speed by using a particular pitch on the prop (a climbing prop), the weight is ...well, the weight.
can you remove the wings for transport?
He said they remove the wings to ship it to you.

That's why I'm interested in a motor glider; PPL prep as recommended by many pilots in these youtube videos.
@@MrSahansdal you still flying your SONG?
I want one--£ How Much?
I have one for sale. $39K. judaswasjames[at]aol.com
COMPLIMENTI!
Looks like carbon-copy of Sadler Vampire.
Yup.
Seems like a lot of plane for a FAR 103 compliant bird at less than 254 lbs empty. I bet its real expensive though being almost entirely carbon fiber...
Not bad for a brand new plane for sure. Up there with high grade competition gliders.
bad ass
i like one to buit one
my luck i'd hed fer da thunder heads luukie mama frums da 50000 feet up
Great niche Aeroplane , good Luck finding a buyer spending way North of $15K for something
with such limited use as an Ultralite.....
@Regdor that plane is way more than $15k.
15 would be a steal.
i guess if you consider 50 grand for a toy as no big deal. But I'd get bored with it like I did scuba diving......... a lot of hassle for the same experience over and over.
for me is a waste of money you can not go any were
except go around and around on top of the lanfing pasture
