GOLDEN ERA!!!! I was a teen when these bikes were on showroom floors, and I spent a lot of time dreaming of owning one! Back when manufacturers were proud of and marketed their single-shock designs... you'd always see their trademarked names on the swingarms. I miss that shit!

Impressed of your knowledge of these bikes. Some fun facts from back of my head: The KTM 495/500 was one of the first motocross bikes with upside-down forks. Do you know why modern KTM in-house suspensions is named WP? It's because it's not popular to say "White Power" anymore :D
The Kawazaki KX 500 was one of the longest produced motocross bike with just minor changes to it. If I'm not mistaken I think it was produced from mid eighties to well around 2000 or so. Still a bad ass motocrosser today. The YZ range of 400 to 500 cc motocrossers was subject to quite a few changes in 1980 to 1990s and around 1990 or so YZ 500 was the first prototype motocrosser with full aluminum frame. I believe it was called YZM500? Yamaha was also first to produce four stroke motocrossers too. I think they also was one of the first with watercooling and single shock rear absorbers (correct me if I'm wrong). They even had a prototype with two wheel drive!
Bimota is still a frame builder as far as I know. They did also versions with Ducati motors too, not only japanese motors. The infamous Tesi (google it) was a bike without normal forks and was powered by a Ducati motor.
Seeing all these cool bikes gave a interesting back in time feeling. Keep on the good work :)

My friend had one of those. We used to have some epic battles at Walker Valley. Him on the 500 and me on my KDX-200. I don't know how he rode that thing in tight woods, but he was a big guy. I could eat him up in the tight stuff, but if it opened up, you could hear that thing coming, and when he blasted past he would shower you with mud and rocks off of the biggest fucking Trelleborg tire I ever saw. Then I would have to wait for the tight stuff to hound him again and work my way past.

I can't wait to ride there again. In a few years I will retire, and plan to have a small toy hauler. Looking to get a Beta 300 Xtrainer. When it comes to tight woods, less is usually more. The little Beta has the weight of a 125 with low seat height and tons of low end torque. Less top end, but I will be 60 and won't be needing mega power. Nimble and torquey is the way to go IMO for tight stuff.

I owned one. Believe me, the hype is far greater than the reality. The Japanese model had an aluminum frame and was detuned significantly. He said it was a Japonese model then he said it was canadian model so who knows what it is. The steel frame was painted silver from the factory so its hard to tell what this one is.

The last 20 bikes had heap of Kawsaki parts added in spares box (eg, DID rims and hubs, ProCircuit pipe and 304 muffler etc) from the factories KRT spares & parts box and the Display & Marketing container which was done as a thankyou for the end of an era. The bike has so far done ONLY 37mins on hour meter.

That CBR looks so right still today. I would love to see the YB8 take a few laps on a track too. This summer, I restored my 69 bright yellow Z50A K1 that my dad bought in 1970. I have three boys, 8, 6, and 2. My 2yr old makes me take him for rides on it almost every day. This is a fun hobby... now I want a CB360T. They all have been snowmobiling with me and my wife since the age of 2 also.

What an awesome video! Memories...@ 46 now, all these bikes bring back some great memories. 1st bike was a 76 YZ80, then I got into racing and had 3 82 YZ80's all set up differently. I was an adrenaline junkie just like the rest of you and the 80 wasn't enough power, so I spent more time riding my brothers Suzuki TS185 (I think that's what it was). I was too small for it, couldn't put my feet on the ground, let alone kick start it unless I leaned it up against something...I would start it and ride off from a leaning position. My 97 CR250 still gets me around today. Thanks for seeing these bikes!!

Lol i did the samething with my brothers 185, i was about 9 him and my dad told me if i could start it i could ride it. Pushed up to the deck on our cabin, kicked it twice and it fired up. They both tried to stop me but i had my helmet on and took off before they could stop me. Lol i went from a Honda trail 70 to that. After that i use to steal it every chance i had and never looked back.

I had the 81CR450. My first real bike after coming off a 6.5 horsepower 1964 YG1T Yamaha 80. It got voted by Dirt Bike Magazine as one of the 10 worst dirt bikes of all time. Perfect bike for a total newb that was going to be trail riding in Washington. LOL I wanted the KDX-200 but my friends said I would outgrow it. So here was this left over end of the year 450 for sale greatly reduced in price. Luckily I got a good deal on it. I rode it 6 times and sold it. It had light switch power, 4 speed tranny, hated to lug, and stalled a lot. Then you had to dismount to kick the left hand kick start. Wore me out just stalling it and starting it. I sold it and fortunately broke even. Went and got an 83 KDX-200 and learned more riding that bike than any other. Should have bought that in the first place like I wanted to do.

@Shield Liger I hope you're kidding about selling your soul. Only a moron would sell their soul, but especially for nothing more than a dirt bike. Dirt bikes are cool but some people definitely exaggerate their significance to the point of idolatry.

A cousin of my best friend could ride a KTM495 on the back wheel at walking pace then take it up though the gears with the front up in the air. He was a trials rider. Tamed the beast. It was a sight to behold.

Stumbled upon your channel. I had that 82 CR 480. Raced many open class races in North Georgia and North Alabama. Bringing back lots of fond memories! Would love to see your collection. I will be in Maine next fall. Hopefully see you guys then.

I love that line, you know why I believe in God? Because we survived being teenagers with these bikes! I know back in the eighties, my GSXR 750 and Ninja 900 tried pretty hard to kill me.

Yep, you are absolutely correct about that ATK 406! It is an absolute beast. It is the closest thing to a MAICO power plant only it's made in the good ole USA! Mine is in original condition and boy does it pack a punch! Not many of these still around.
