With all the general insanity in the states, these days, spending 42 minutes traveling with you through 21 locks and seeing the sweet, sweet country side, the ducks, the pubs, the cream tea debate lifted my spirits in a big, big way. From around the world, thank you!
We are thankful we chose to escape some of the insanity when we did Skip. It’s good to be home, amongst family, and enjoying a new found appreciation of our beautiful country from the waterways. And even more thankful we have built this wonderful online community from around the world to enjoy our travels. That was never part of the plan, but we love it 🥰
Sadly in Britain it's just as awful. Yes we have lovely canals and beauty but our country is being run by supporters of genocide etc.. it is not a good place to be at all.. but these good folks are trying to make the best of it as are we all. Just saying it's not a picnic here in the uk either. Imo. Atb.
I think you missed his point completely. It isn't the British (or anywhere else) countryside, it is what you make of it. There is very little any of us can do about major world wide issues. What we can do is make the best of what is in front of us - which is what One Day More is doing. Finding beauty, joy and laughter where they can.

Sorry to hear that of the loss of your Dad after poor health. Here is someone from New Zealand 🥝 Who has done the Hatton Locks on our narrowboat holiday. We came down them heading for Warwick. We did it without any stops. Needed to lie down and rest the body afterwards.
Thanks so much Linda. The Hatton flight is a long old slog isn’t it and a lie down at the end is definitely in order. Hope it brought back some happy, if tiring memories 😊

Sorry to hear your news of your father passing. Lovely photos of him though x it was another beautiful vlog. That must have been tiring going up 21 locks and so unusual not to have the volunteers on duty. I hope Paul and Anthony’s boat is ok now, quite normal to have teething problems I should think. I’m with Paul on the cream first 👍
Thank you so much Paul, glad you enjoyed it. Morning Star has turned a corner now and seems to be running well after some hiccups this first year thankfully 😊
It’s such a perfect mooring isn’t it! You’re right, SO many locks. That stretch from Napton Junction to Stratford is very lock heavy! But worth the trip 😊
Loved the discussion of jam or cream first. It's like the tea controversy of milk in first or in last. I think I would say jam first, then cream and I am definitely milk in last. Great vlog. That many locks would be so hard! At least the day was nice. It's getting dark and thundery here.
Glad you enjoyed it Dorothy. Jam or cream first made for quite the discussion didn’t it! Whichever way, it was a welcome treat after all those locks! My rules for milk in tea depend on how it’s being made…. Milk in first if it’s poured from a teapot, milk in last if it’s made in the cup 😂
@@onedaymoreaboard It all goes to the same place. ☺ Your tea plan makes sense because you know the tea in the pot is fully brewed and the milk won't make the whole cup weak. A bag in a cup is iffy. It might be too weak for the amount of milk you've already added. I've done that and it was bad...
Oh Caroline, I just started watching. I’m so very sorry for your loss of your father but I like that you said he lived a long, wonderful life… I hate for anyone to enter in to this horrible club of losing one we love blessings all over you and your family and Pete.
Love it! This time last year I drove to Hatton locks to help a solo boater friend through - parked at the bottom lock and walked up to the top then came down with the boat. It was great fun but a very hot day! It was certainly a crash course in how to do locks!! Beautiful area though. I really love the flowers on your boat - so beautiful and happy xx 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Mishka! What a great friend you are. That would have been a tough old journey as a solo boater for sure. We had a trip to the garden centre yesterday to re plant the flower boxes on the roof for this year 🌸🌺🌼
Sorry for your loss. Thank you for the very lovely video again. Stormy here today on and off. Nothing too bad here just thunderstorms and some hail. Hope the friends / family / puppies and you are doing well. Take care - Prayers for safe journeys. Spin
Thanks so much Spinner. Glad you enjoyed the video. We finally have some warm sunny weather here, although I won’t speak too soon and scare it off. Dare I mention that the muddy tow paths are starting to dry up?? 😂😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Dry paths are good for the puppies and you. Wondering - how do you charge electric narrow boats on the canal? I see they have a lot of solar panels but there must be added costs and stops etc. Take care - pet the puppies for me..
LOVE the flower boxes. I've just been doing a lot of gardening myself. Hoping to be eating from my garden in another month. June is the time tomatoes ripen on the vine in Southern California.
Weren’t the flower boxes stunning at the CRT volunteer office. It was just a shame that we had missed the volunteers that day to help out! We are getting ready to plant up our roof boxes again for this year, and making sure that we have lower plants this time that’s don’t obstruct our view so much! The smell of tomatoes on the vine always remind me of my Grandad’s greenhouse growing up 🍅 😊
What a brilliant day that looked like. Shame about the bit of rain but looks like it wasn’t too long before it was sunny again. I didn’t know you all liked cakes 😂. I’m with Anthony on the scone front. Definitely jam first then cream…..that’s how we did them in ‘my dads’ cafe 😜. You make me laugh when you’re talking to Poppy & Hamish asking if they want to go cruising. I really want to spend some time cruising with you soon xx
Exhausting day, but the cake reward worth it, and we got to wear the sexy ponchos in the rain! I’m a jam first too, but it made me laugh editing this and seeing how long the discussion went on for 😂. I wish I had got to visit ‘your dad’s’ cafe! I know Poppy is listening when we ask if she wants to go cruising, and Hamish is probably just thinking ‘what’s she on about now!’ 😂
Thank you very much for the video. Still love the black & white pics ! Just can't figure out which one to use for my screen saver. Lol Much love from Ohio U.S.A.
I agree! When we were on holiday in Cornwall this summer there were signs everywhere saying jam first, which is the Cornish way apparently! It caused quite the discussion didn’t it 😊😂
What a beautiful day that was. I'm sure that entire trip with Paul and Anthony was an adventure to remember. How often do you guys get the chance to see each other and/or travel together? Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it Roger! You’re right, we had so much fun travelling with Paul and Anthony, especially during some very hard times for our family. They were such a good emotional and logistical support when we needed it the most. We try and get together by car every couple of months now our boats are so far apart, but we are already making plans for traveling together again this winter 😊❤️
It’s the one thing that causes so many disagreements isn’t it! We were on holiday in Cornwall a few weeks ago, and there are signs everywhere saying ‘Jam First’ 😂. Thanks for watching 😊
I’m heartbroken for ya Caroline. 😢 I’m sure he’ll be looking down on you and watching as you continue on the journey (of life and narrow boating). What caused the low water situation? Was it someone leaving two sets of paddles open ? MorningStarOneDayMore widebeam….show winner at Crick covering all categories 😜 I think we moored at Saltisford after we had spent a day descending Hatton Locks. That’s a serious lot of work those locks ! Parents had it easy, me n sis worked our butts off 😂 Fond memories seeing Hatton again. Gotta be about 12 years ago since we were there. I’d forgotten about those C-block sections. Very unusual ! Jam first, cream after…. Everyone knows that 😜 Love the fact you passed a boat name A Day To Remember. Feels very apt about all of my comments on all of your videos 🇦🇺🫶🏻🇬🇧
Thank you so much Alex. We love that he got to experience some time on our boat, and saw us making this life work. Glad we could bring back some lovely memories of your time at Hatton locks. The ones with the windlasses definitely have their work cut out! We think the low water was a combination of paddles being left open, but also the general low water situation across the network due to low reservoir levels. After all the rain we have had this year already we hope we won’t be facing the same low water problems this year! 😊
I'm born and bred in Devon. It's definitely cream first (replaces the butter) with the jam on top. I'm sure those wacky Cornish people would disagree! And as a side note, proper scones don't have fruit in them!
So much controversy over jam and cream, it’s hilarious isn’t it! Worse than fruit in scones were triangular shaped ‘scones’ when we lived in the USA, that’s came in all different flavours. Definitely not British! Thanks for watching 😊
I'm with Paul, the cream is a butter ersatz, so it must go on first, then the jam. Also, jam on cream is more gouache. Don't know if that makes me Cornish or Devonian.
I think it makes you Devonian?? Perhaps? I am so confused, but I do know that it tastes good either way, and it was a very welcome treat after all those locks 😊
Very sorry for the loss of your father - we are all only here for a while, but we carry all of our families everywhere with us anyway - those memories are alive & well ! Every so often you mention your car - I do not understand how you manage a boat & a car - do you have to keep shuttling from one to the other - constantly going back for it, or putting it ahead of your journey - that seems so complicated !
Thank yin so much Veronica. We have some wonderful memories to hold on to, you’re so right. We have a lot of questions about moving our car and the boat, and I will be dedicating a video to it in the next couple of months, when I’ve caught up on everything else! We use public transport whenever possible, to either go back and collect the car, or move it ahead if we know exactly where we are going. It was much easier traveling with Paul and Anthony, as we would use each others vehicles to collect the one left behind 😊
One Day More to the rescue!! What a ruddy day eh? What no footage of the view from the pub? Oh and it's jam first..... just sayin'. @NarrowBoatLifeUnlocked
Hi guys - could you please give some details on how far you can travel on a full tank of diesel, how often do you fill up and how easy is it to find fuel, also how large are your tanks - water and fuel and what’s your electrical power usage? Just more work for you!!
Hi Swanny, we usually keep our diesel tank as full as possible to prevent condensation and diesel bug, we also add a fuel treatment every time we top up. As we recall it holds something like 200 litres. We just topped up today and it took 42 litres that has been for a full month, cruising, running the engine to charging batteries and the Ebersbacher to heat water, heating etc.. We could easily go 3-4 months possible longer on a full tank if we wanted to run it down. Fuel is available at marinas and fuel boats so availability is never really an issue. Prices can vary a lot though so we tend to wait until we see a cheaper marina or fuel boat. Water wise we have a 110gal (approx 500 liters) tank that typically lasts a week but again, we top up every few days whenever we see a water point. Power wise, we upgraded our batteries last year to LifePO4 batteries and have 400ah capacity plus 100ah lead acid for our leisure batteries. The LifePO4 batteries have been a real game changer and give us so much more usable power. We typically use around 100 to 150ah per day so can now go 3-4 days without needing to run the engine in normal weather. In the winter we might run the engine every couple of days to charge the batteries but they charge so much quicker than the old lead acid, usually about an hour will get us to 100%. Before we changed the batteries we would run the engine for 2-4 hours per day in the winter! In the summer when it’s sunny we generally don’t need to run the engine as we get most of our power from our solar panels and the batteries will fill daily. Hope that I’ve explained properly and that helps? Pete 😊
Hi Pete and Caroline, loved the video and enjoy watching your vlogs. I'm impressed how clean and polished your boat is. Could you tell me what product you use to clean and polish the paintwork please as our boat Summer Wanderer is needing a polish and i don't know what product to use. Thank you guys
Hi Kevin, I have to admit I’m a bit lazy when it comes to polishing the boat. I use a regular car wash and wax to clean it and then a Meguiar’s quick spray wax that I then wipe off. We’re helped a bit because our paint is an Epoxy so seems to look shiny without much effort. Not sure if you watch Julie & Martin on Rhapsody In Blue but Martin is a boat polishing nerd 😆. He swears by G3 products which he uses daily and his boat is always immaculate and shiny. He’s actually moored next to us right now and out there cleaning his boat 😊. Hope this helps?
@@onedaymoreaboard thank you that's a big help, yes I've seen and admitted Julie and Martin's boat as you say they keep it spotless as do you. We're moored in crick marina so hope to see you at the show, we are one of the narrow escapes contributors, and will appear on it this Monday coming Cheers

We had our daughter-in-law and her twin with us for a cruise starting at Warwick. Hatton was the first locks they had ever seen. About halfway up they wanted to take a break, but of course, there was no place to do so. It was also a day with no volunteers. We moored at the top and trudged to the pub up on the hill and ate like animals. Coming down after a week that included the BCN they were experienced and we breezed through. Thanks again for the memories.

Oh Caroline, I just started watching. I’m so very sorry for your loss of your father but I like that you said he lived a long, wonderful life… I hate for anyone to enter in to this horrible club of losing one we love blessings all over you and your family and Pete.
Thanks so much Sam, we take comfort in knowing he had lived a long and wonderful life, even though we miss him and his wisdom so much ❤️
So sorry for your loss, thank you for your vlogs, so wonderful to see all your adventures.
Thank you so much. It’s lovely to hear that’s you’re enjoying the videos 😊
The smell of tomatoes on the vine always remind me of my Grandad’s greenhouse growing up 🍅 😊
Definitely Jam first!
I have to agree Jeff 😊👍
@@onedaymoreaboard I my Cornish heritage....
Lol
Much love from Ohio U.S.A.
You’re so welcome Bryan. So lovely to hear you’re still enjoying everything 😍
Sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. This must’ve been a tough one to edit x x x x
Thank you so much. You’re right, it was hard putting it into words. We are so glad we were traveling with such good friends at the time ❤️
Jam first ❤
For me it's the Devonian way. Just like butter on the toast then marmalade it has to be cream, the dairy product, then the jam on top.
It’s the one thing that causes so many disagreements isn’t it! We were on holiday in Cornwall a few weeks ago, and there are signs everywhere saying ‘Jam First’ 😂. Thanks for watching 😊
So sad to hear of your loss. Keep safe, well and making your vlogs. Bit selfish that last bit, but please forgive me ❤️
Thanks so much Nigel. Not selfish at all, I’m almost caught up with all the old footage now so everything will be more current in the next few weeks 😊
good vid on the cut cranking it with frends liveing the dream keep up the good vidds sorry on you loss of you dad think of you
Thank you Lee ❤️
I’m heartbroken for ya Caroline. 😢 I’m sure he’ll be looking down on you and watching as you continue on the journey (of life and narrow boating).
What caused the low water situation? Was it someone leaving two sets of paddles open ?
MorningStarOneDayMore widebeam….show winner at Crick covering all categories 😜
I think we moored at Saltisford after we had spent a day descending Hatton Locks. That’s a serious lot of work those locks ! Parents had it easy, me n sis worked our butts off 😂
Fond memories seeing Hatton again. Gotta be about 12 years ago since we were there. I’d forgotten about those C-block sections. Very unusual !
Jam first, cream after…. Everyone knows that 😜
Love the fact you passed a boat name A Day To Remember. Feels very apt about all of my comments on all of your videos
🇦🇺🫶🏻🇬🇧
Thank you so much Alex. We love that he got to experience some time on our boat, and saw us making this life work. Glad we could bring back some lovely memories of your time at Hatton locks. The ones with the windlasses definitely have their work cut out! We think the low water was a combination of paddles being left open, but also the general low water situation across the network due to low reservoir levels. After all the rain we have had this year already we hope we won’t be facing the same low water problems this year! 😊
im so sorry about your dad god bless you i know ive been there and my partner lost her dad to hope your ok god bless
Thank you so much ❤️
Don't think of it as cash. Think of it as CAKE!
Thank you so much Rainey! You know how to put a smile on our faces 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard To level my attitude, the Cornish are definitely the ones to make pasties! 😆
Yes! We are heading down to Cornwall in July and looking forward to some genuine Cornish pasties! 😊
It was a bit of a ruddy day! Diesel to the rescue!! Pete was going to brave a ‘Diesel And Proud’ t-shirt at the Electrika Boat Show 😂👍
Hi guys - could you please give some details on how far you can travel on a full tank of diesel, how often do you fill up and how easy is it to find fuel, also how large are your tanks - water and fuel and what’s your electrical power usage?
We're moored in crick marina so hope to see you at the show, we are one of the narrow escapes contributors, and will appear on it this Monday coming
Cheers
We will look forward to seeing you on the big screen next week! And hope to bump into you at Crick 😊
Love watching you vlogs . Who plays the music at the end of this one love it heard so many times but keep forgetting to ask . Thanks xx
That’s lovely to hear Margaret! The music at the end is Time On Our Side by Ten Towers. Here is the full version ua-cam.com/video/0MqqeXvnk78/v-deo.htmlsi=OL00kY8HsTwPbrGu
Thank you thinking of my hubby when I hear this lost him to cancer a year ago . Watching your adventures have kept me sane ..xxxx
Wow, facing the Hatton flight as your first locks would be a challenge for sure! It’s a tough old trip up, especially with no volunteers on duty to give a helping hand! You deserved that trip to the pub for sure! Glad we could bring back some lovely memories for you 😊
A friend of mine insists on stirring his jam into the cream then spreading it on all mixed up,so far he’s been banned from three Cornish cafes
That’s so funny! And as Anthony would say, sounds like it would look like an ‘accident’ 😂
is it just the camera angle or does your boat list on the left hand side?
We did have a bit of a list at that time that was corrected by shifting a few things around. Well spotted 😊
Xx
Thanks Edward. Hope you are well 😊
Oh My Gosh! Of course it's jam first! :: faints dramatically :: ...and I'm not even a Brit!
Actually... BUTTER - Jam then cream!
Ha ha, I think you can qualify Craig, with your strong opinion 😂🇬🇧
@onedaymoreaboard Brace yerselves... I'm coming to UK in September! 🇬🇧
How exciting! What are your plans?
