As one of Britain's top dog trainers, Graeme - aka “The Dogfather” has helped over 4,000 dogs and one fox. Here, he reveals why his magic formula for taming even the wildest dogs can work on humans.
Acknowledged by the media as one of Britain's top dog trainers, Graeme - aka “The Dogfather” - criss-crosses the country helping dog owners with dog behaviour problems. This year he has worked from Aberdeenshire to Sussex with dogs of all sizes and all kinds of problems. In total, he has helped over 4,000 dogs (and one fox!). Graeme is one of the few dog trainers chosen by TV and radio broadcasters to feature in their programmes. He has trained dogs on the set of a Hollywood film and even helped celebrities with their pets. Unusually for a dog trainer, Graeme did not have a dog of his own until his 40s - he now owns a (very well behaved) Rottweiler called Gordon - and came into dog training relatively late in life.
Graeme is also an accomplished public speaker, writes a monthly column in Countryside magazine and competes in national ballroom and Latin competitions for fun.

Graeme is very good 👍We love his show here in Finland where there's plenty of badly behaving dogs (and people) 😂 Only when stuff becomes simple have you really understood it thoroughly. No theoretical nonsense that ultimately gets you nowhere, hands on approach with humans and dogs alike 👩🐕

I once read a comment on a misbehaving child in school, they tried to fix this and found an agreement with the boy tothat he would make an effort. The lad worked hard and actually reduced ! the annoying behavior. But he still treated as the "bad kid" (either reprimaned or denied praise, or stickers or whatever). The kid felt betrayed - he did do better, but his progress was not appreciated, nor did it get him any reward that he had come so far - because it was not yet perfect.

I don't feel like watching yet, but I have a feeling the answer is going to be:
it works because our understanding of dog psychology is based on own understanding of us as humans. We're using anthropomorphism and some of it just happens to apply to dogs.

yeah, postive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, positive punishment and negative punishment work on people too, I use it all the time secretly on people around me(they dont have a clue, but I enjoy the results). But I didnt understood what this guy was trying to explain, really a bad talker. Thankfully, I understand dog training well enough to use its principles on people without his help.

@golemkonty. Right. Funny how this whole talk never used the phrase “behavior modification through positive reinforcement.” Maybe the speaker did that on purpose, but there are plenty of videos and books and seminars that explain and demonstrate that concept clearly and memorably.
