First got wind of LKJ around 1984. on tracks such as the Forces of Victory and the Eagle and the Bear....The beat, the placid mid tempo vocal delivery, the lyricism all wrapped up in Jamaican Patois...I was Mesmerized
Linton Kwesi Johnson came to visit my local library in Sweden last year and since then i’ve been hooked to his music and poetry. I even had the privilege to speak to the legend
I've listened to LKJ a lot in the 80's. As a French man I missed a lot in the lyrics but the heart of the message passed. The excellency of the music helped all the more so since I love Dub style and Poetry. Also, listening to Forces Of Victory again now, I see that he taught me a lot of Jamaican patois. :) Jah guide & protect!
Had the privilege of meeting LKJ in the mid 90s - he gave a talk about the sociological significance of Miss Lou in relation to the broader black struggle in the Caribbean and Afro-Caribbean diaspora. My father was a huge fan, having been a part of Rock Against Racism in the late 70s. "Forces Of Victory" is one of the great albums of the entire genre, never mind just Dub Poetry. Great content as always ! Especially appreciate the historical photographs etc
HEADLINED an evening of black poetry at SHERBERDS BUSH EMPIRE a night to remember i was a fan from early on although i found that not many REGGAE fans had heard of LKJ in Britain strangly when i moved to France 20 years ago i found him to be very popular with the French REGGAE heads
My fisrt Linton Kwesi was LKJ in Dub. A cover with a red background and LKJ in DUB mark in black. What a wonderful coverart! its take a while kwow that LKJ mean Linton Kwesi Johson. Iron Bar Dub was my favorite
