This is glorious, I have been researching "proper putting" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Graysonyon Putter Prolific - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my partner got amazing results with it.

I don't ever post comments on UA-cam. But I can't help myself here. This lesson single-handedly changed my golf game. I have continually accepted that I was just not a good putter and putting has kept me from breaking 80 my entire life. After watching this and getting a putting mirror, I immediately realized I was WAY over top the ball and looking back towards my feet. It's unbelievable how much this has helped me see the correct line better. This weekend I shot 78 for the first time in my life breaking 80 with 28 putts. But more importantly, I feel confident once I'm on the green and for that I am eternally grateful. Just wanted to comment in here to let you guys know that what you do with this channel really does make a difference and has a positive impact on people. And don't listen to the idiots on this thread tell you otherwise.

That is the single best golf instruction video that I have ever seen ( and I have seen thousands). I have been playing off 12 and blowing most of my handicap on the greens. My playing partners cannot believe the massive change in my putting results since I have been using the alignment from this video. I even got my putter reset by 3 degrees (flatter) to fit with the new wider setup. Thank you Mike for sharing your knowledge.

Great video, thanks a lot. When I started golf some 20 years ago I aligned naturally with my eyes and I soon became one of the best putters of the club where I played. Sometimes along the years I lost this natural sense of alignement, I changed stance again and again and my putting now is very standard, if not below standard.
Now I suddenly understand what I did well in the past, and I'm sure next time I get out to play things will come back.
Excellent video. I frankly don't understand all the haters when what you give here is worth gold in putting lessons.

Thanks again for yet another superb video. I struggle tremendously with putts, especially those 6foot and in putts that you mentioned. The way Mike explained how to setup for a putt was simple enough to understand and provided great tips. Also, thank you for included the last two to three minutes regarding handle pulling. Seeing him demo it using you made complete sense. I too, often pull down and forward instead of down and away from my body. Im going to give this a try at the range.

      @alandlc6031 7 років тому +2

it has worked for me but its so damn difficult to not trust your eyes and if you are not committed to the putt then youll most likely miss. you really need to trust the line and the ball will go in.

    • @Sp33dyBeanz
      @Sp33dyBeanz 7 років тому +2

I am currently a scratch golfer and had the exact same problem. the line looked wrong when i stood over it, but correct when i looked at it from behind. you know what i did to solve the problem? I forgot about my ego and i just trusted the line on the ball that i lined up from behind. I TRUSTED IT. guess what!?!?! I started making a lot more putts. it really is as simple as just forgetting about everything when you stand over the ball and trusting it.

OMG, I could give this guy a big hug. I admit it, I am a lousy lousy putter. Though the line of the ball told me to hit it one way, my eyes have ALWAYS been in complete disagreement. Mike, I can't wait to put this to use. If it works for me, I'm going to be one happy person.
Case in point from a golf round a few weeks ago--After my first two holes (par 4s), I'm 6 feet away for birdie on both holes. I end up one over. Next hole I'm on the green in reg, and I 3 putt that too. You're the first person that I've ever heard address this issue.
In all fairness, it's been tough with all the practice putting greens closed.
Just to add to my comment (a week later), I've played a few times and using this instruction for putting. I used to miss a lot of 3 and 4 footers. Now I'm making most of them and I'm seeing 6 footers going in with greater regularity. I'm pretty excited.

This Video combined with BOB ROTELLA's PUTTING OUT OF YOUR MIND have transformed my putting miraculously...from someone who has been suffering from yips for a very long time(I couldn't putt from 6ft) I would literally cringe at the sight of those short putts,my hands/forearms would tense badly and I would mainly pull my putts and miss them to the left.
Now after 3 weeks of applying this line reading technique and reading BOB ROTELLA's Book...They have transformed me into this mean putting machine,my confidence has soared and now I confidently sink EVERYTHING from 20ft(of course there's those occasional misses but I can tell you now, they are very near misses, lip outs and rimming the cup, they are no longer those wayward off the line misses)If you asked me what the yips are I would look at you like I don't know what/who you're talking about.
This is by far THE BEST PUTTING TECHNIQUE I have ever received...This technique is so good that 1,I can putt with my eyes closed and 2 I confidently putt and listen to the ball drop in the hole(BOBBY LOCKE).
THANK YOU VERY MUCH ALLEN STERLING and MIKE MALASKA for sharing this video.

This is the very, very best putting alignment. I kept missing my putts to the left, I'm a lefty. I know I was off so I moved the face of the putter to compensate-but in time that did not work and I would start missing left and sometimes right. Tried to adjust my right elbow out to the straighten the putter-but that too failed over time. Yesterday, I tried your method and really worked at and I was now hitting the center of the cup ALL THE TIME. I put much more effort in alignment of the a spot and the ball and it works every time. Also, as I did this I became more comfortable and assured that my aim was correct. I also noticed that as I focused on the line up to a spot my head did not move either. Great video.

Thank you Mr Malaska! 20 years ago i was a single handicapper with a bad putting stroke. My game was based on hitting 70-80% of the fairways and 2 putt most of the greens. Now it's diffferent, because my short game is becoming strong, mostly because of your putting clinic! It is great to know that you can always relate on your putting game, even if you have a bad day swinging the golf clubs. I want more of this!

I went to a practice green and followed your steps. After a little adjusting of my stroke, I was able to make the ball roll end over end with a line. I have played golf a long time and never experienced anything like this on a practice green. I put 6 balls down with lines. The putts ranged from 4,6, 8, 10,12 feet and the last one from about 20 feet. You will never guess what happened. I rolled the first 5 puts in the cup and narrowly missed the 20 footer. A great system that I am going to use from now on. Thank you for the tip. Monte Winterhalter

Step 1. Read the green way before you're even on it. Look at it as you approach it. Try to walk up to the green the way the hole was designed. Usually from the middle. Then when you start to walk on it you feel the slopes much better. Compare that vision to the one you feel/think when over the ball. Calculate after comparison. Step 2. It also helps to know wich of your eyes are the dominant one. Use that eye more for a true sight of vision. Applies for the long game to. Then learn from the great lesson above. Mike is a true great teacher.

i know it is an old video.. but i just went out an played my home course. (new member). the greens run at like a 10-13. I 3 put so many darn greens. So many breaks. 141 slope on my blues, 151 from tips. I two put or better every green and these are the hardest greens I have ever touched. So slippery... this allowed me to just focus on my distance of puts... Thank you so much. About my only complaint will probably come from folks I play with, as it takes me a little bit to get it aimed correctly from 30-40 feet, LOL.

Practiced this method at home during the week then took to the practice green. Zero three putts and finished round with 31 putts for the first round trying. Most putts hit in the middle of the hole. Was burning the edge too much prior on the 4-5 footers with my eyes over the ball. This method definitely made a difference for me and will keep practicing.

Great advice, my difficulty is the 6 foot puts. This makes so much sense to me now!

Tried the drill form 4 ft. and couldn't get my eyes to see the line when i got over the ball to putt. So I went like a foot from the hole and tried again. Surprise, surprise when I got my eyes about 6 inches OUTSIDE the ball then it looked lined up. Yet this is the first thing you're told not to do when learning to putt. Now I can actually see the line when standing over the putt!!!
Never would have ever considered doing that without this drill, thanks.

Incredibly helpful video. 30 years ago I happened upon a drill that uses a straight, 10 ft putt and two ball markers (about 1 ft apart) placed precisely in line with the hole. The drill required placing the ball in front of the back marker and stroke it over the other marker. I was amazed to find that I was consistently aligning myself to the right of the straight line but that my stroke (unbeknownst to me) was consistently "pulling" the ball back toward the straight line. As well, I'm a "spot putter" and after I choose my "spot" from behind the ball, the take my address position, the spot always seems to be aimed too far to the right.
I have still been doing this drill from time-to-time to prevent pulling and missing left (which is my consistent miss).
I have always tried to align with my eyes over the ball. It makes more sense, as this video advises, to align my eyes and address position so that the line looks straight. This makes much more sense. I'm going to give this a try. Thanks.

I've studied Peltz books but this technique is very simple and eliminates a lot of variables. Thank you.

Very very good! Learned a lot here. The thing with the line to see if your putting is efficient is very clever.

After aligning the line on my ball precisely at my target, I would go thru my pre-shot routine, step over to putt the ball, and every time I looked to verify that I was aimed at my target it “looked” as if I was off my mark. This video is a relief; I thought something was physically wrong with my eyes and it was driving me crazy. Good to know that I just need to adjust my eyes over the ball; not surgery. For decades I was taught to have my eyes directly over the ball. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

This video made some good points about eye alignment. Big factor is posture and neck position. Whenever my posture is off/bad I know I can't look down the target line.

I actually worked out the putting line by accident the other week by mistake. I was mimicking my mates crouched over putting position and boom everything lined up straight away. Its amazing how much of a difference it makes.

Totally applies to my vision. Never trust my ball line unless very close and end up pushing or pulling. Cant wait to try.

Tried this on the practice green today. The longer the putt, the longer it takes to ensure the line on the ball is indeed lined up correctly by using the putter shaft as a straight edge, and then readjusting the ball and line on it in relation to the hole. I think using this method can cure yipping putts because it is its own process. I found I had to forward press my hands (therefore putter face) much more than I was, in order to get the ball tumbling properly so that the line on the ball didn't wobble much. Bumpy greens can send the ball into a wobble motion however. I really like the instant feedback you get from using the line and really had no idea there was a purpose to it and thought guys just pointed the line to the hole for a "basic" reference. Aiming the line on the ball with the shaft is very important, as I found that placing the line on the ball to what I thought was at the cup usually was off by quite a bit and it wasn't until I used the putter shaft and readjusted the line, that I was able to roll in long putts with confidence or at least have them so close to going in. Keep in mind that at about 12 feet, you only have 1 degree of variance with the putter face or you will miss the putt.
I will use this method during tomorrow's round but I'm sure it might take some practice to do it quickly. Don't want to piss off playing partners. Thanks for the tip. Knowledge is King and doing something with purpose and understanding, just might blow the competition away! I've said for years now that the reason I miss so many Putts is because I hit my line ... it just turns out that my line is quite far off the line I should be rolling it on.
I'm not sure I fully understand what is happening when the instructor gets you to move your eyes closer or further from the intended line with the Tee. I tried that today as well and I don't know what I'm supposed to see, one way or the other. It's not like I see the Stars align or something? Whether above or off the line, everything seemed to be in line? Perhaps you can explain that better?

1 Putt he’s just first trying to get you to find what ‘looks’ best to your eye. Some instructors preach eyes over the ball to everyone. Apparently that doesn’t work for everyone’s subconscious so he wants to find your alignment spot first and foremost. THEN set your body up and roll the putts. The tee being hidden by someone is to assure your lines are making visual and subconscious sense.

Mike when you stepped in and blocked the hole. I thought you were kidding, and then realized just how distracting the hole can be .Even after you feel confident in your alignment. It’s staying with the set up, after finding the line. I feel as if I understand the importance of where your focus should stay. Nicely shared ⛳️ So looking forward to being outside once this virus is over. All the best ☀️
