EBAY SNEAKER AUTHENTICATION WRONG!? Authentic sneakers FAILED INSPECTION?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- In this video I walk through what happened when I tried to sell what I thought to be authentic Sean Wotherspoon Air Max 97's on eBay and they said the shoes were fakes. I took the sneakers to 3 other legit checking websites to get more opinions. I used LegitMark, LegiCheck.app and Legit App.
I talk through how eBay communicated with me and the steps taken after receiving notification that the sneakers had failed inspection. I also add lots of images towards the end of the video to so you lot can give me your own opinions - REAL or FAKE?

I think its better if Ebay sends back sneakers they arent 100% sure are genuine instead of letting them through.
that sounds like a flawed system considering it's a waste of time and money lol
@@southerncritic9090 Ebay pays for the authentication so I agree, I'd rather Ebay send back things they're unsure about.
@@jessereale no they don’t, they still make you pay for shipping
Your paying for shipping no matter what company you buy from even Nike. What he is saying is that authentication process is free on ebay compared to Goat and StockX which charge you for that process.
If eBay pays for it then sure ( for a seller I’m not sure I bet they screw the seller but not sure I’m about to try it out )
These are 🔥! I like the fact you've been so transparent about this whole process.. this would defo help us armatures in knowing how to legit check our trainers! Are there stores you can take them to in London to have an "expert" check them out in hand?
After doing some research. It seems to all go down to the description! They could say your shoes didn’t pass authentification because “description didn’t match”. Which is a bit silly considering the amount of time sellers need to put into posting each listings. Good Pictures at good angles of a sneaker usually speaks for themselves, but a simple error in the item description(ex: Lining material) seems to be jeopardizing authentification.
That's what happened with me. I sold a pair of tephra Yeezy boosts v2 and they said they were unable to authenticate. I checked my description I put the colour down as brown by mistake
@@CSideBeats OMGGGGGG! I’m frustrated for you. Gotta love that manual sh*t 🙄 I love eBay but posting sneakers is a heck of a lot of time!!!!!
@@CSideBeats did you get it back
@@Attmanwart yea they sent it back to me
Just happened to me. Sold a used pair of Jordan 1s and they didn’t pass bc the size tag had ripped off. It is my fault right bc I took a photo of the tag before it ripped…. So now the photos don’t match the description. 🤷🏽♂️
DO NOT USE EBAY IF YOU SELL SHOES!
I have had a terrible week with eBay “authenticity guaranteed” I had a pair of Jordan 1 obsidians I sold on eBay they went through stockx and trade block and I got them authenticated by the legit app with 2 authenticators looking over the shoes and saying they are authentic. But eBay says they can authenticate them. I buy a majority of my shoes from local sneaker stores and this week I have had 8 or more shoes returned for the same reason “The item could not be authenticated. It’s being returned to you.” What makes it worse is they can’t authenticate but you still have to pay for returns, they restrict your account, and Nuke your listing so you can even go back and review their claims. All because they suck at authenticating.
Where else to sell?
Very insightful video, hats off to you. I know from experience eBay doesn't really communicate with their sneaker authentication subcontractors. If they tell them they don't pass then that's it. However, it's worth noting that it doesn't mean they won't pass them on a different transaction. If/when they start charging for this process I feel they need to include detailed explanations for a pass or fail. You would think sneaker con already has this data as part of their process.
Same thing just happened to me. I sold a pair of Space Jam 11s and I was quiet sure they were real before I listed them. When I got the email my heart dropped and I was like no way they were fake. I got them back today and double checked them and even ran them through Legit App and they passed. I am currently very pissed because I had to wait like a week and some change just to not get money from the sale. I actually lost money, $16 to be exact because I had to pay $8 shipping and then when they shipped them back to me they also charged me another $8 which is outrageous. This is so annoying and frustrating. I wanted to use the money I made off them to invest into other sneakers that I can flip for more, but now I can’t and will have to wait until I sell them else where.
wait how long will it take to buyer get refunded ??
They also send them back when the shoe doesn’t fully match the description or pics so if theres a a scuff u missed or a stain or anything you didnt list which is present they will send back which is actually good because you want to get what u paid for as a customer and not get any surprises
eBay’s authentication team is a joke. I sold a pair of Golden Goose sneakers that I bought directly from an authorized retailer of this brand. I am 100% certain of their authenticity and sold two exact pairs of this style before and those passed EBay authentication. I hate that I couldn’t contact the buyer to explain that this must have been a human error on EBay’s, side as EBay turns off messaging between buyer and seller after the sale. EBay- one of the most unprofessionally run companies! When will an alternative platform take over ? I am sure million of EBay sellers are waiting to run from this joke of the company.
Hey youre 100% on the money I sold a pair of Jordan VII Bordeaux 2015 on eBay which I previously qc myself and they sent it back saying inspection failed. The bogus part was that their reasoning was that the shoes "didn't seem authentic". Thats it, no specific reason at all . Im sick of eBay and their bogus authentication process, ridiculously high fees and payment holds. There's always some kind of issue with them. Definitely looking forward to that alternative platform you mentioned, honestly thats the wave.
uptown cheapsnake claimed my jordans i know are real are fake.
Don’t like how eBay turn the messaging feature between the buyer and the seller once the item has been bought through the process. Had 2 bad reviews from buyers saying seller ignored messages etc.. apart from that I’ve sold around 15 pairs and had no problems so annoying to hear about a situation like this
Agreed. Ebay also lost a few pairs I had sent to them and also got bad feedback, but complained to ebay and they both got removed.
BRO I thought my seller was ignoring me
@@KingsdownRoots what authenticity app or website would you say is the best to use to authenticate air max sneakers?
Ebay just sent back my 100% genuine Dior Oblique Hoodie saying it was fake. I took it to my local Dior boutique and they said it was real. GREAT JOB EBAY!
Human error will always be a factor. Lost my money on fake Off white 4's through Ebay Authenticity Guarantee. Compared to my retail pair the ones ebay authenticated clearly fake. Smh.
I bought a pair of CG 11’s from Footlocker in December that I sold on eBay this week that failed authentication. It’s annoying that u can buy a shoe authentic shoe from Nike, adidas, or a shoe store in your local mall or a authorized retailer, but another human has the authority over whether or not your shoe will pass authentication.
Selling on EBay is not worth it anymore, and the authentication team is not doing their job properly
I just got lightly used Nike Free Run2 that was sold as being "BRAND NEW"...Now I can't get my money back because eBay said the shoes went thru authentication... What a scam!
Seems like all the passed authentications came from sources where you sent photos. And EBay had the actual show in their possession. Isn’t that quite different?
Exactly!
This happened to a pair of react element 87 mist I got. No thanks to eBay I managed to get them in the end however due to their screw I could have missed out on a deal of a lifetime 😤 not using eBay after this
So frustrating
earlier In the video you show a set of picture and in them there’s the Nike logo with a fuzzy stitching towards the thicker part of the check mark and it’s listed as real when you show off your pair it’s missing that type of stitching
This is actually crazy and I hate the new process. I buy and resell. I bought a pair of jordan 11 space jams that were authenticated on their way to me in sneaker con New York, I sold them a couple days after “not my size so obviously didn’t wear them” & sent them off to NV sneaker con who then said they were unauthentic.. makes no sense. Might leave eBay.
i just recently bought a used pair of Air Max 95 from a home seller (i.e not a store seller) and they didn't pass inspection AND they were sent back to the wrong address AND they wouldn't tell me what was wrong with the shoes. What does this inspection center have against Air Max's? If the people that work there don't tell you what is wrong with the shoes then there is no way to trust them. My advice is to buy from sellers that don't use this inspection center so there is no time wasted in shipping and the shoes will go straight to you the buyer and you won't have to worry if some stoned dude at the center accidentally drools on your shoes
I recently sold some lightly used 2016 bred 1's for $320...ebay sent them back stating the shoes couldn't be verified. Got them directly from NIKE app I'll sell them in person for even more now. I just figured they would give a reason as to why the shoes couldn't be verified. Good reason to have multiple revenue streams.
So if they get shot down from eBay once, can you just never sell them on eBay now? Is there an appeal option?
I just flipped a coin three times ...came up tails every time... sorry they're fakes. ..
I would try them again and include in the box a print out of the authentications from the other authenticators. Don't do a sell similar on the original listing, do a new listing. In the description area of the listing, briefly state they were authenticated by two other authenticators. If customers want more information about that they will message you and if they do, forward the results to them. Also, never list these shoes as "new" on eBay!!! Only Nike and their authorized dealers can legitimately sell "new" shoes! Listed them as preowned and stated they are "preowned-displayed but never worn. If worn, even tried on and walked around the room in, don't say "never worn". People are getting rejected more because of the wording of their listings and not so much on actual fake shoes on eBay.
Great vid, thanks for posting. That's wild... Because ebay definitely authenticated some fire red AJ4s I got that are obviously good reps. I wasn't trying to find out, but the heel tabs are different (shorter & more flimsy) than the 2 pairs I got from GOAT & stock x. And the mesh panels. Tongue & build is solid though; I can wear them care-free. But like, if I can tell, eBay should be able to, ya know? It's not my job, and I *want* them to be real, but... 🤷🏼
Those SOBs just failed a pair of mine for “having more ware that’s described “ i posted about 15 pictures in all angles and in the description had them as “used” , they even had the original Nike box since I worn them once FFS, never again will I sell expensive shoes on eBay
I just had this happen with Size 8.5 - Jordan 4 Retro alternate 89 2016 they came with box and everything I have no idea why they failed. They look exactly like every shoe I checked.
they sent me fake shoes and i cant get a refund because they authenticated them as real
Have you spoken to ebay about this? They say that inspection failed, that does not say they aren't genuine unless somewhere they have said that?
They didn't have anything else to say besides they were "unable to confirm authenticity"
This exact same thing happened to me. Except I was on the receiving end however. Was almost gutted I almost lost out on a steal of a lifetime
i just closed my 19 year account with eBay.. the Wortherspoons i sent in were 100% legit.. but they said otherwise.. 1200 feedback 100% feedback.. F/U eBay.. kinda glad i did it.. now i dont have a reason to buy things and sell them on Fleabay.. no more hoarder issues :)
How would they know if they are sold as brand new ?maybe the seller is stating that they are new and has used them at least a few times
They look good to me as far as I can tell. But I haven’t had a pair of these. Did u try to call CS and ask them to clarify with the authenticators. They can call them and find out more I believe
I had a pair of og court purple 1s say failed inspection even though I clearly stated in the description I didn’t have the OG box and that I had a smaller size Jordan 1 replacement box. I don’t think I’ll be selling high valued sneakers on eBay anymore
Just had this happen to me. Sold some chunky dunkys which I got from direct from Nike so I know they are real and they still failed. They said to me that they have a 30-point process which they look at different aspects of the shoes and if they fail on one they fail the whole thing. So you can fail because of Nike bad QC. It's very frustrating that legit shoes don't get through.
That's because you got them from a fake Nike store. Go to a real Nike store for real Nike shoes.
I mean the one obvious difference between eBay and the other services is that eBay inspects them in hand...so something like smell can’t even be factored in on an app. That said, whoever does most volume might have lowest attention to detail...
Beautiful sneakers and they are definitely genuine. Are you sure eBay declined them on authenticity grounds and not another reason? I had a pair returned and turned out because they thought they showed signs of wear ie not deadstock- although this wasn’t made clear initially. Anyway, I’d love to take them off your hands as I’m a UK9 but hear they fit half size big?
Great video 👍🏿...All this concludes is that these sneaker companies need a way of making their products like the 100 dollar bill when it comes to using technology against counterfeits & invest in a team of ppl who seek out the undercover factories & shut them down in order to keep their products integrity. They are making billions of dollars & should be able to afford it. #sneakerpolice
I won a pair of yeezy 350vs beluga, sold it on ebay. They failed the authentication saying they were "unable to be authenticated" whatever that means.
This is what eBay said about a pair of Adidas Pro Model's I purchased directly from Eastbay, yet somehow failed. The strange part is I have multiple pairs, yet why would one of the pair fail when the rest already passed authentication? Clearly, eBay is getting some of these calls wrong.
@@alexlang23 afterwards ebay tried to charge me with a sellers fee despite the sale not being successful. Its supposed to be a punishment for trying to sell fakes. Obviously I was pissed off. I was charged return shipping of $20 and now a final seller fee of $67. I would've lost $87 cause ebay fked up. I called up customer service, told them they fked up and got the final seller fee removed. Still had to pay 20 to get the shoes back.
eBay rejected gold shoes I personally purchased from Nike. I can’t even find fake Jordan golf shoes or I would buy them…..
I just had a pair of Adidas Pro Model 2G Basketball Shoes fail authentication, and I purchased them in bulk directly from Eastbay. Having multiple pairs, a few pairs had already sold and passed authentication, so it makes no sense that this last pair today would fail, especially since they are brand new in box, I have receipts.
Sad to say, but I'm going to pull some of my lower-priced shoes off from authentication because this does not serve my customers. If I put the item specific that they are customs then I will not only get reduced selling fees which comes along with the sneakers category, but then these shoes will no longer have to be authenticated. If a pair of shoes is over $150 then I'll leave them to be authenticated.
just happened to me on some lebron corks. Had it verified by multiple shops and by check check. Condition was used, but I shared all sorts of pictures showing condition.
I just cop this fire in 9.5 us couple weeks ago from ebay. Quick look your kicks is legit. The curve in the back heel is enough for me!
I sent a pair of Sean Cliver Dunks in that I physically purchased and eBay determined that they were not authentic. Furthermore, as a result, I was issued an MC011 and am now banned from selling in the clothes/shoes/accessories categories as a result. Terrible service.
Wow, that’s insane!
I’m good with eBay for most things Iv sold but I brought a pair of off white air max 90 and apparently they got lost, the seller was paid as soon as they received the item and showed they was at authenticator but I waited 3 weeks until I went through PayPal and got my money back, very poor as the trainers just apparently disappeared 🤷🏻♂️
Just happened to me. They’re genuine from Nike. Authentication said “doesn’t seem authentic “
Only a matter of time before Trading Standards get involved.
Bought fakes that have been wrongly authenticated without a leg to stand on.!
No we shouldn't have to suck it up.!
Sneaker con UK are eBay owned.!
Sorry to hear you've had problems too.
Here's my opinion. eBay always takes good care to protect the buyer and as a seller that gives me a broader customer base but......they have made a big mistake with the authentication center. They have denied me authentication on two Hermes Bags and one Louis vuitton sending me into shock thinking I myself got takin. Its a new process and they are fucking up. Just like their customer service jobs being farmed out to cheap labor that have no recourse to resolve any problems they are doing the same with the authentication process. I dont understand why because its a great lose for them but when you pay slave wages you get what your paying for. Can we say class action lawsuit. Yep im on it.
Does your account get blocked or suspended if they come back as “fake” though their experts?
Eventually it will if several get rejected. You're service metrics are severely effected by rejects. The metrics effect how your item rank in the search algorithms.
Pretty sure ebay just sent me fake dunk rammellzees. Have a few pairs and the latest one has a wildly different sole, super puffed up, looks way off. Lost faith in them tbh
I just had this happen to me, I bought genuine Nike 90 trainers from Nike in 2020 and I sold them on Ebay a few days ago and it failed, WTF is going on.
Great video.
But here's one for you.

@@KingsdownRoots that's not the question is it? If YOU were a potato, how would would YOU THE POTATO prefer to be cooked.

@@KingsdownRoots that's what I said! We're so alike 🤣
This is one of the easiest shoes to LC.
These are 100% real & I've literally LC'd hundreds of these & got a few pairs myself even still DS
If you call eBay and talk to their authenticity department they will tell you your your shoes are not fake but they can fully authenticate them 100% so they are going to be safe and return them to you but they will still mark them as fake even if they are not
Ebays trash. Their 3rd party dont even make reports on inspection results....which is really messed up. I do compliance inspections for a living. Im thinking of the reactuon when ibtell my boss the inspection failed but i dont have a report to support my findings. Just like card grading...if that dudes having a bad day then your stuff getts failed
Is there a way you cannot get them inspected
Just got air max new and pretty sure they are fake …and they passed their authenticity check ..
Bought some air max 97 Nintendo 64 9.5 and they sent me 8.5 after authentication 😂
Did you get refund?
You do know that fakes get through all the time with stockx and goat. Id prefer more caution as a buyer.
Happened to me but its because I said there new when ebay said they was not i brought them from nike so knew they was not fake.
Unless you know it's real then they could be switching reals for fakes then send them back
Maybe because the Ebay one had hands on not just photos?
Have since had them authenticated and sold them in person
Yes those are 100% fake you think they can do a good job just with pictures you got have the shoes on hand.
From pics look identical to mine which were bought on Stockx.
eBay says you should remove the shoes but I find it better to trade veros or unauthenticated with your friends and have them list them if you are certain that they are real. We have never been veroed for the same items.
You are either sure or you are not.
Almost only counts in horseshoes and Handgrenades
Great video
Fyi the fakes and real are made in same city being that the people are so poor they will work at the legit company and steel the shoes dies and take them to the knock off dealer which pays them for it and will use the original dies and gets same materials and will produce them but with cheap poorer equip. And while being Real close its usually the workmanship that gives it away I busted company doing this saying they had jorden del sol and after grilling them over and over then switching the shoe order they sent me like dumbasses they knock off catalog it only cost them under $30 to produce a shoe that sell for over 200iff this company was to improve there workmanship we would have no way to tell because they are using the authentic dyes and material on black marketed
Mines were real not new it said. Probably new with defects .
I ordered shoes on eBay and I think the shoes are decent
Turn em into beaters there only shoes at the end of the day
This just happened to mr
those are some super ugly shoes.
REAL
For 5 pounds Send me the pictures and I’ll tell you they are real mate! You can’t 100% legit check shoes over some pics. Take your L.
ended up getting into contact with eBay authenticity location, their notes said my box was damaged
Fake af
I sold a pair of Size 17 KD Shoes for 90 and it went to there program and they said they were Used and I bought them from ROSS and they guy said Ross.DD's Discount and Marshalls sells Used returns.
