  • Hello, and welcome to the second installment of our biggest series yet, Near From Home's Turkish Coastal Road Trip. In this video, we continue the series by exploring the Bosphorus...without a boat tour company! That's right, we are attempting to cobble together Istanbul's confusing public transport ferry system to see if we can make a better hop on hop off ferry tour than the large companies. We start at the ferry port near Galata Tower, heading north up the famous strait to Besiktas for some brunch, Arnavutköy for an architecture tour, Bebek for Rumeli Fortress, and finally Kadiköy for a night out. This was a truly exciting day in our Istanbul stay. Please like and subscribe for more of our Turkish series. The next video is our Istanbul food tour.

    These videos remind how much I love Turkey. Getting lost and figuring things out is always a buzz. I should be doing an assessment but I keep saying "just one more vid, then I'll get on" 😅

      Hahaha been there. Glad to help you procrastinate. :)
      Yes! It's so fun and chaotic.

    Only watching half way of your video and I was able to catch a ferry from Eminonu and get to rumeli fortress. When I got back to my accommodation in SultanAhmet and finished the rest of your video, when you mentioned that rumeli fortress was closed due to renovations I would not have gone as the renovation was still happening but it was open.
    Great video. Love the professionalism.

    Great glimpse into what the ferries are like! I appreciate the disclaimer at the end. But as a public transport pro, I think I'd do it the way you did, but with perhaps more luck 😉

    Thanks for the video; great information. This tour is something I would love to do too. Quick question: Did you use the Sehir Hatlari lines? I can’t seem to find a ferry all the way to Arnavutkoy/Bebek.

    I think it must be amazing to sail on the Bosphorus. So much history and I bet it’s stunningly beautiful. A very cool idea to film doing it on your own. I also can’t imagine being limited to being on an organised tour. But tell me- did you meet any cats?
    Joke. I watched it all 😘😘😘

    What can you tell me about an organization where you can see the magnificent sunset and Istanbul skyline thanks to a boat tour on the Bosphorus and then complete the tour with a fun dinner? sunset and dinner tour with velena travel.

    Did you have to connect a HES code to your Istanbulkart or is that not a thing anymore? :)

    • @NearFromHome
      @NearFromHome  2 роки тому

      Yes we did. What didn't make it into the video was that we could never set it up with our Istanbul card, so we had to keep buying regular tickets :/

    not sure what you mean by 'had to register the card you had already bought' , hoping to do the same trip on our visit early next year hence the ask..thanks

    • @NearFromHome
      @NearFromHome  Рік тому

      I believe it was a health registration. So I’m not sure if you still need to do that or not. I will say the purchasing of those tickets was a smidge complicated, along with managing the time tables. So I’d make sure you are comfortable with the boat operator websites, public transit, and what not before attempting this. Luckily though, even if you make a mistake, there are plenty of buses you can use as backup.

    • @NearFromHome

      I would say so. it remind me a little of Athens in the way that it is sort of chaotic.

      I see workers constantly cleaning, so it’s pretty much clean and Istanbul is under developed.

    Lovely video! Thanks to the author of the channel for this fascinating video! It is interesting to see how people live in other countries! It is very important to know foreign languages on such trips. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!
