Just got back from my first two-nighter and this video made all the difference! I couldn't figure out why my back was killing me until I remembered to fasten the straps from the bottom up, to maximumize the load on my hips and ease the load on my shoulders. Thank you!
This style of pack could be my salvation. I have a pinched nerve in my neck and anything that pulls my shoulders backwards, like my old army pack, causes me excruciating pain. A pack with a hip belt could be the solution now that I see how the hip belt is used. Thank-you so much for making and posting this video. Cheers from Victoria.
Here am I, doing my Basic Outdoor e-learning for Scout Adult Leaders - and a familiar face jumps up! They have linked you Caro to demonstrate how to adjust a hiking pack!! :)
Ooooo - nice to know! I met with Scouts last year and we had discussed them using some of my stuff, so that's great news that they're getting the info out there. I hope that you (and your troop!) find it useful.
What make and model is that pack? I have a 1000D with reinforced stitching but its distribution is terrible. I can feel my hips rotating and my butt moving back and upwards acting like a table to hold the pack.
Some manufacturers will brand particular packs as 'womens' packs. Generally, these have a size 2 harness and sometimes a slightly different shaped hip belt. As I'm long in the torso, these don't work for me, so I steer clear of them.

This is a Macpac Pursuit 55 litre. Great pack, had it for years,
So you have hip problems instead of shoulder issues?
Thanks for the video, maybe now my pack won't hurt my shoulders. By the way your so gorgeous!
Do they make packs differently for women?

What on earth do you mean? I sound like an Australian. A sober one.
