This man talking about Superman is breathtaking
you're breathtaking!
Alex Ross's enthusiasm is joyous and a bit infectious. Years ago, I saw a video where he talked with similar enthusiasm about the 80s Flash Gordon movie. Other people tend to dump on it but it's his favorite movie. After watching that, I had to watch Flash Gordon.
@@MightyAvengingLeo it has 'charm'
Alex Ross actually understands/appreciates the legacy of these characters. WB needs to hire him as an advisor for the movies.
Wondered that too. I’d like to think Snyder would probably fire him or he’d quit on day 2. Day 1- “uh, what are you doing Zack?” Repeat 400 hundred times.
Instead, they'll hire someone like Tanehisi Coates who hates America and Superman and all he stands for.
they should
@@stuckie3916 Lol...Facts!
Yeah. They need to hire anyone to get it right
My Favorite Artist. The way He captures Superman is Incredible!
It seems like he draws Superman based on his own features
You're right.
You understand Superman better than most.
I wish you could sit down with James Gunn and oversee his writing for the new movie...
That would be my dream come true.
James head is too big now. He's going to do his own thing... 😔 Firing Henry cavill proved that
Friend you damn of right
🎯🎯🎯
No way would Gunn listen. He only understands superheroes as jokes. This kind of earnest approach is completely alien to Gunn's style.
Your Superman is heavenly, you bring life to the character
Peace on Earth showed that Superman is unrivaled - if he is entrusted to the hands of a gifted artist and a gifted writer. An absolute masterpiece.
I could listen to Alex Ross talk about superheroes all day long.
X2 ad you damn of right
Alex Ross is the greatest Superman artist as Christopher Reeve Is the greatest Superman actor. Both men gave definitive portrayals of a very noble champion. Majestically brilliant.
Love the big "S"
WB is crazy for not even trying to adapt any of Alex Ross DC comics, they could use his wholesome and refreshing take.
Because WB is only trying to copy MCU instead of creating something unique
I don't know why everyone wants to copy that bland MCU formula those trash lame jokes
Dc needs to be unique and gritty
@@Puddledrowner22DC isnt better than Marvel because its gritty and unique.
It is better than Marvel because DC *inspires*
@@Puddledrowner22 They tried to be "unique and gritty", it was called the New 52, it was a complete failure bc it was edgy and tryhard
@@Puddledrowner22 Hey if it helps, James Gunn did say that Kingdom Come is one of the inspirations for his Superman movie.
The amount of thought and care that Alex pours into his art is inspiring.
If every comic book artist is a superhero, then Alex Ross is the Superman of comic books.
Alex Ross' art is so iconic, no matter who his subject is.
The piece from this video that jumped out to me is the Crisis cover. It looks as if Alex drew inspiration from SUPERMAN: The Movie. Bravo!
Why isn't Alex Ross casting all super hero movies??
Superman is by far everyone's favorite superhero and mine as well. Even Alex Ross is a hero to me.
Always loved his rendition of Supes, it's like the character brought to life. And he doesn't snap necks.
I still remember as a kid picking up kingdom come and seeing the beautiful art and story. Alex Ross’s Superman was the first interpretation I saw and will always be my Superman.
Alex giving props to Steve Rude just shows what a class act he is.
This version of Superman is GREAT .
Of all the comic book characters that Alex Ross has worked on, his work on Superman is the best. You actually see the hope and inspiration.
The day I see a live action Superman movie in the style of Alex Ross i will be a happy man.
I am hoping for a fully animated film of Superman by Alex Ross. Kingdom Come!
As much as I love Christopher reeve as Superman, I think it would of been great to have had Robert Redford with black hair if course as Superman set back in the thirties with his old school costume and before his powers got out of control. Robert Redford back in the 70s of course not now
I want to see an experimental animation that uses original artwork as key scenes and other artists fill in the rest with a program that simulates the style of art. Imagine fully painted Kingdom Come cartoon. Not a motion comic, actual fluid animation.
@@josephmetts3085 Redford turned down the role
@@jimmiesmith5811 yea I know he did. But it would have to be set in the 40s to work anyways not the 70s
Alex Ross' Superman is sublime.
Always was a Batman guy myself, never was a superpowered character fan, but Alex Ross Superman especially Kingdom Come made me appreciate the character and see what Superman fans see, the most powerful who doesn't want to dominate, but only wants to help. An inspiration.

Superman has been my favorite Superhero character ever since my uncle introduced me to the character with the comics and "The new adventures of Superman" cartoon from 1966 when I was a little kid back in the early 90's. Mr. Ross your work is awesome, keep up the amazing work. 👏
Supeman is an amalgam of the best of what the USA should stand for. Incredibly powerful, but uses restraint. An immigrant, humble, agricultural background, but college educated and making his way in the big city. Kind, but purposeful. Has a day job.
He was literally my best friend in High School

His passion for Superman is wonderful. In his paintings and books, he clearly “gets” Superman.
Alex Ross is definitely a huge influence. He inspired me when I was studying Illustration in College. He had, and continues to have a massive impact on us artists .
Alex Ross you are one of my favorite artists. Love kingdom come!
alex can make people realize why superman is the greatest superhero of all time
Our world don’t deserve this Superman..
Our world does deserve this Superman. Now more than ever.

I could listen to Alex Ross talk about his craft all day.
Nice understanding and appreciation of Superman, and great Superman art as well.
Alex Ross is the master of art, they are beautiful and his my favorite artist ❤ .
In addition, he does understand Superman, the most iconic hero in all of history, and he is my favorite superhero since he gives me hope, fighting fear and gives FAITH. that's what I want from a superhero who always gives us hope
LOVE HOW HE HANDLED THE JSA VERSION WITH A TOUCH OF GRAY OR THE FARM SEAN WHO GAVE BEING A HERO.
One must acknowledge, Snyder was heading to this and the endgame for his Superman. He just wanted to show the world the personal journey Clark went to, to become this grown and matured Man of Tomorrow.
' superman could kill us all but he doesn't , that's why we like him '
Thanks for the inspiration!
This is gold. Awesome stuff. What a talented man.
Your work on Superman is astounding, it stands apart. I would really appreciate more content featuring Kal-El if you wouldn't mind.

I love this. Thank you so much for sharing this gem.
brilliant stuff. these are all great!!! Thank you Alex!
Thank you Alex for always producing the perfect vision and version of Clark.
He was there for me in my foundationless depressive teens in the 90s and he hi always there on my bookshelf ready to help me through my stressful and frustrating modern middle aged life.
This is why I personally wanted Cavill to stay in the role.
At 35+ he embodied a wise, mature, reliable Superman .. very much in line with Alex Ross's perfect vision.
I wish Gunn and WB/DC realized that we need a lighthouse in today's chaos of inflation, Covid, Ai, Social issues.
A Constant.
Say what you want about Snyder's films, Cavill and Gadot were that constant.
I'm afraid we're going to get another Clark that is trying to figure that out.
We don't need him to figure that out.
We need him to help US figure that out with his unwavering conviction, friendship, and wisdom.
Super man: I'm just a man protecting my home my home universe
Ive always admired how he can paint the lighting and paint translucent images.very challenging
Cant wait for the Alex Ross Art inspired Kingdom Come animated feature
I spent 2 years of my life trying to draw like this man. I fell short but he’s still my inspiration nevertheless.
Fantastic piece!
His art is so realistic.
Wow, just wow!
Wow, just wow
Perfection
WB should hire Ross and Eliott S Magin because they get the character in a way the current writers and artists don't!
My Superman Dream DVD: Max Fleisher cartoons from the '40s. A collection of the best Superman covers, particularly Neal Adam's version. Superman:The Motion Picture, Superman II. The entire run of John Byrne scripted and drawn Superman Comics, of course, Alex Ross' short story.
I was literally tearing up listening to this. Superman is such an important figure historically and culturally and I gravitate towards the anguish and fear he has. The portrayal of power that’s softened by traumas even the man of steel is powerless to. I read kingdom come at 18 I think on an illegal website (now I feet everything legally don’t worry) and it jump started my love for the passion everyone puts into comics. But KC Superman, physically and story wise made me depressed because of how powerless even he is. This monster of a person that has to watch everyone around him turn to ash. I always hate when people say Zach Snyder didn’t understand Superman, I think of all his character Superman was the one he got perfect for me. I’m not here for cheery save your cat Superman. I’m here for the man who screams in pains as he kills his only “sibling” basically. The one who has no place, who is loved and feared, the one who still does the right thing despite the pain it will bring only him. Superman sacrificing his own piece of mind is much more impactful to me than him just saving people. I think DC Metal did a great job of exploring that aspect of him as well. A Superman who loses hope slowly. But still, through others, can come out the other side. He’s a character to me that is beyond just him, he extends to the relationships he’s built through Being the guy that would save a cat from a tree. Not actually doing that. It’s also what makes Injustice and kingdom come a hard read. One he loses faith and has no one to remind him, he’s just hurt. Once he loses his moral compass and people follow him out of fear, he’s hurt. I’m glad these videos are being made, Alex has always been an icon to me since starting my comic journey and now that I can hear the passion and knowledge he has it blows my mind that he or even me could possible come up with opinions like that. He’s inspired me to consider more than the story of anything and think of the impact and meaning behind every decision. I just want more of these videos lmao. Sorry for the ramble these videos just really hit me deep.
Kingdom come is front and center in my book collection. It is simply breathtaking.
.. ALEX ... I hope that you are able to do ... SWAMP THING vs MAN-THING ... someday soon.
I'm from rio de janeiro ! When I read KINGDOM OF TOMORROW for the first time, I WAS OFFENDED when the super man says : This city looking from above is like a diamond, from close up you can see the beggars and rats 😢
that's every city
Awesome thanks for sharing
I LOVE this man's work!
Back in October 1998, I once had a chat with Alex at a local comic book show, and told him that he should have been at Comic-Con International in August of that year, and I would have introduced him to Jean Peavy (sister of Joe Shuster) at the Action #1 Creators Reunion panel.
Alex Ross needs to paint a movie poster for the new Superman movie. If I was Gunn I would have him create the art for the DCU movie intro as well.
I freaking love your work.
I love his take on superman!👍👍
Hello My name is James Ritz and my father has a comic that he says was written by Alex Ross while they where both in high school is there any way to know if it’s real
I just realize something and I hope someone in Hollywood have this idea or read this and make it happen....you know how now since Spiderverse happen many have use that style to create different style paintings and have that feel to make the movie looks like....concept art...or a Comic....or a fairy tale painting...............DC....if you ever made a Superman animated film that go to theater in the same way Spiderverse did to Spiderman please........make it that look like ALEX ROSS paintings of Superman and DC in general, god I will pay thousand times to watch a film that emulate the style master Ross have give to Superman in these amazing paintings.
Now, this guy knows Super-Man.
This is the best artist that has ever drawn Superman...bar none. I thought Neal Adams was great but Ross is way better.
Alex Ross is Superman!!!
Hello Mr. Alex. I know that your intention was the best possible when you put Superman taking food to the population of Rio de Janeiro, but if you really wanted to feed the poorest, you should have made him take food to the Northeast of the country, where the poorest people are who really pass through. hungry and don't even have water to drink. In Rio de Janeiro, Superman should fight against the criminals who dominate the favelas and bring terror and death to the population, drug trafficking and constant murder, in addition to other unbelievably cruel facts. As always, the art is wonderful. Congratulations from Brazil.
great stuff.:)
Superman ❤💙
My Favorite Superman is drawn by Alex Ross for sure with John Byrne in second and Kurt Swan third. I hope when they pick the next Superman, they pick the Alex Ross version as model. A tower, very manly. A figure of power. Like he's the ultimate dad to protect us all. Although I'm not sure if that man exist.
I hope they are drawing heavily on Alex Ross' style for the next iteration of Superman in film. And yes, bring back the red underoos.
Ross' reverance for the character is inescapable and his talent is undeniable. I wish he had said something about the death of Kara with the Christopher Reeves-style Superman
@TerryManning - What more explanation do you need? Reeve is holding Slater because her 1984 Supergirl movie flopped. And it's Reeve, not Reeves.
@@endwigast5212 I wanted ROSS to elaborate, not you. And I already knew that, thanks.
@@TerryManning Why would Alex Ross reply to a commoner like you? Sorry, but you'll only get a reply from another commoner, which in this case is me.

@@TerryManning I ain't goin' anywhere. I'm here to stay, and you and I will have many more conversations as fellow commoners!
Impresionante dominio técnico.
That was incredible.
This is Superman, not what Snyder gave us. It really needed to be rebooted.
I just made a comment saying the opposite basically. I think Snyder’s was pretty much what he was talking about. A character who is full of hurt and confusion and doesn’t save cats from trees or high five kids selling news papers. But a person who travels the world looking for his place, finds a woman who makes him feel loved, and has to choose between humanity who calls him a god and hates him or killing the last person who connects him to his real home. Zod even presents him with the idea that they can rebuild and he can learn about krypton, but Kal chooses earth because of the love he’s gotten and the appreciation from helping people. Even in BvS he’s helpless. Just like kingdom come for a huge part of the run. We forget that Superman will someday outlive the earth itself. I assume that stays in the back of his mind and to me I feel those types of emotions when watching Zach’s version. I’d says just Arc needed to be finished and continued, not rebooted. The UNIVERSE needed to be rebooted. Every single release was almost unrelated except for Easter eggs. But I think his Batman and Superman had the chance to be (and to me are) a great telling of the type of characters I feel that they are. To me Superman needs others more than they need him, and Zach’s story didn’t get to go that way because Warner brother never let a single creative mind actually accomplish their vision. Even when James wan made them a billion dollar movie they cancelled his show. Everyone did their own thing but tried to stay true to Zach’s characters while the studios wanted to destroy everything. I’m interested in James Gunn and Peters reboot but I’m not much more excited. James Gunn has only a few projects that are well received and most are the same characters for multiple projects. And peer did Cw which while connected well, the stories almost always suck. We’ve not seen James write a character as recognizable as Superman, we’ve seen him do interesting versions of characters most people have never heard of. You get freedom there. CW was the same rehash every season for every show which also bleeds into the fucking bore that’s Titans. I’m hoping for the best obviously because I love Sean and James Gunn, but a reboot, after cavils return, before the last three DC movies that were all destroyed by the studio because they were heading in one direction and is not being scrapped is just annoying as hell. At least give us a send off for the people who have watched every movie for almost ten years. We barely got a corrosive univers we should at least get another justice goodbye. But opinions are opinions and I’m not shitting on you at all.
@@motionblurofhappy7804 Then you need a reality check. Superman is a paragon despite being a humble person. Snyder's Superman, is a lost person far from a paragon and very unsure of himself. Until he died and rose again and started to act differently almost as if he got brain damage from being dead.
Superman would happily save a cat in a tree because he is the god damn Superman. I don't know what SUeprman you've been reading for the past 75 years.
@@eingoluq I didn’t mean he would never save a cat or high five kids I meant his character is deeper than his actions and the best superman stories to me are the ones where he’s unsure and humanizes a god. Snyder’s seems like he’s not perfect because, he’s not. Physically yeah, a god. Mentally, still just as confused as anyone else but pushes through it because of a responsibility he has to a world who needs him and respects him. We just didn’t get to see that particular arc play out. But it was clear the plan was to always have Henry’s Superman go from confused strong man to sure of himself god with the mental experience to sit and talk someone off a ledge rather than fly them off. And almost every Superman I’ve read in comics, though it’s up to the writers, I would say has more depth emotionally than most other characters. 40s Superman and onward for decades was exactly the perfect American god, but eventually you start to get a deeper look into his loneliness. Like traveling the universe alone until the last god does and staying by his side. That’s a Superman we’re both talking about. The perfect person who outlives everything and would still sit with an old friend, and does it because he recognizes the loneliness of death. I was just saying Superman is a deeper character than taking a bullet to the eye and saving a cat. Because “he’s the god damn Superman” doesn’t actually work when even in injustice he can’t actually save everyone even with the strictest methods. Part of Superman’s whole thing to me is he CANT save everyone. Him recognizing that and recognizing his responsibility to try is what I appreciate more than him actually doing it.
@@eingoluq And I don’t really want to sit here making this all about Snyder’s movie but I saw him getting sure of him self during Man of Steel. The flight scene, learning where he came from, and in the end choosing to kill his last remaining link to krypton instead of Zod killing humans. He literally is saving everyone in that moment but still, like anyone, feels pain from it. I’m the next movie he has confidence and is more sure of himself but is forced into situations by people who see him as a threat. Another thread in making him have more depth. The movies might not have done well or did shit wrong but idk man I just like seeing Superman be a little more. Alex’s drawing of Superman looking down on humanity give me a sense of him seeing them and almost feeling bad for them in a wholesome way, I get that energy from Zach’s version. Yeah the overall movie might have been wonky but when Superman dies you can still see the world mourn and the rest of the league respectful for his death and him by not using powers to unbury him. You can see admiration when he comes back. You finally see how the WORLD views him rather than how he views himself. But again to each their own I’m not saying you’re wrong, you’re saying I’m wrong and I’m just explaining my views and how I interpret Superman which is the point of reading anything.
@@motionblurofhappy7804 Snyder's Superman was a failed attempt at depth. he had a tonne of surface-level characteristics that didn't follow through.

Yes, Please WB get Alex Ross as consultant for the next Superman movie so we can hopefully avoid the terrible interpretations post-Reeves of Superman. I also enjoy raw energy of the 1940s Superman comics--more the man, less the super! Don't get me wrong--I love Superman but I've also enjoyed seeing more humanity in the character since the start of the 21st century. And yes, I've got some of those oversized comics Mr. Ross described as well as his own. Still a die-hard comics fan and Alex Ross has helped with keeping that flame alive!
