As promised, here's the answer to the Advanced Numerical sample question:
We're asked to find the difference between the income of Arclight and Spectra, in US dollars specifically.
I.e. (Arclight total revenue) - (Spectra total revenue) = ?
In order to solve this question we need to calculate the expected 2012 revenues for both Spectra and Arclight.

    Spectra:
    1) Number of units sold is expected to increase by 5.7%:
Units sold in 2011: 20 million.
Units expected to be sold in 2012: 20x1.057 million units.
    2) Unit price is expected to increase by 12%:
    Price in 2011: £70.
    Expected price in 2012: £70*1.12 = £78.4.
    3) Expected revenue for Spectra in 2012:
(number of units sold)x(price per unit) =
    (20x1.057) x (£70x1.12) = £1657.376 million.
    Arclight:
    1) Number of units sold in 2012 is to remain the same as in 2011, which means 25 million units.
    2) Unit price is also expected to remain the same, which means £70 per unit.
    3) Expected revenues for Arclight in 2012:
    25 million x £70 = £1750 million.

    Now, let's calculate the difference:
    Arclight - Spectra =
    £1750 million - £1657.376 million = £92.624 million
Remember, however, that we need to find the difference in dollars, not pounds. The conversion rate is noted below the chart.
If £1 = 1.59 dollars, then the expected difference in dollars is:
    £92.624 million x 1.59 = 147.27 million dollars
    The correct answer is (D) - 147.27.
Alternatively, you can find the company profits in dollars and subtract as follows:
    Arclight: 25x£70x1.59 = 2782.5 million dollars
    Spectra: (20x1.057)*(£70x1.12)x1.59 = 2635.23 million dollars
    Difference = 2782.5 - 2635.23 = 147.27 million dollars
    The correct answer is (D) - 147.27.

      Firstly, thanks for the video.
Is it safe to assume that Arclight will have no growth or any change in unit price in 2012? My approach was not to assume anything about Arclight without an explicit statement on their figures for 2012 and, therefore, my answer was F = Cannot say.
Please let me know if my reasoning is sound or if I should, in a test scenario, follow your approach.
With that said, thanks for the example!!

The question is quite confusing, why use the words 'if two printers' and '1 minute' in sentence with further detail of number of times (four times). It seems irrelevant. I get it that it is intended to test people with math skill but it should be clear and more understanding. I am unsure how it can be 16. If it said 'two printers' and no condition (if), then the calculation would be different. That is the slightly problem. I assume that it was written by a group of co-writers alongside the subordinate psychometric team. Again, it is no good to take a test because the question/answers can be sometimes inaccurate.

The answer is E. 16. If printer A printed 20 and print B printed 4 times that amount, it would equate to 100, not 80.

@@katherinesantoraaa I am not entirely sure about that. If you read your statement it does read like "20 times 4". Right? I think the issue here is with language. What we are looking for is 4 times more of the same base amount. In this case, the basis is the printer that prints x copies. So four times more means the basis times four, but with the basis is included: 4x+x. Hence for it to come out as 80 the x has to be 16.
This is not as straightforward as it first appears or sounds and it is very much down to language.

@@seletarroots3258 My answer was correct and my explanation was correct. The statement does not read as 20 times 4. The statement reads as 80/5.

@@katherinesantoraaa If you have one apple and I have 4 times more apples, it is not intuitive that I would have 5 apples. Most people would assume that I had 4 apples because 4 x 1 (4 times one as in 4 times as many) is the nearest assumption.
That´s all I am saying. It´s a language thing and I think most people will get stuck on the wording.

    • @katherinesantoraaa

@@seletarroots3258 You wouldn't have 5 apples; you would have 4. If I have 1 apple, and you have 4 times the number of apples I do, you have 4 apples. In total, between the two of us, there are 5 apples.
So, if the total number of copies is 80 and my printer prints 4 times the number of copies as yours does the equation is 4x + x = 80, which is the same as saying 5x = 80. If your first instinct is to just divide 80 by 4, then you aren't reading the problem all the way through.
