  • Stephen Sondheim was the Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist behind some of the most celebrated and titanic musicals to hit Broadway. He wrote the lyrics to “West Side Story” and “Gypsy,” and was the force behind musicals like “Sweeney Todd," "Sunday in the Park with George” and "Into the Woods." In a 2010 interview with the PBS NewsHour, Sondheim sat down with arts correspondent Jeffrey Brown to talk about his storied career and the art of writing music, lyrics and rhymes that stand the test of time.
